Renderings have us excited for reinvigorated Honda Civic Si
Tue, Oct 6 2015Realistically, we know there's no way the new Honda Civic Si will look exactly like the stunning, green, two-door coupe that debuted at the 2015 New York Auto Show. But, as these renderings show, there is a future where the production Si will look very nearly as good as that concept car. Now, it's very important to note that these are not official renderings. Instead, they've been assembled by CivicX.com, and are based on everything from the production Civic sedan, to spy shots of the upcoming coupe, to the flashy concept that foreshadowed the new compact earlier this year. Inspiration was also drawn from previous Si models. As always, take these shots with a grain of salt. That warning has never been so hard to follow, though. These renderings show off a coupe that is very nearly as cool as the concept, while still remaining firmly planted in the real world. In our mind, the front end is the most accurate part of these renderings, taking the production Civic Sedan's and applying a suitable layer of aggression. Other aspects look good, but are probably a bit too fanciful, like the huge wheels and ultra-low-profile tires – seriously, those look like 35-series rubber. That's madness. We aren't crazy about the back, either. With that pedestal spoiler, huge taillight element, and busy rear bumper, there's just too much going on at the tail of these Civic Si renderings. We wouldn't mind seeing a smaller spoiler, perhaps one that doesn't so heavily obscure the handsome fastback tail. A wider diffuser would help, too. It seems underdeveloped here, almost like it was tacked on at the last minute. Honda issues bizarre non-recall on Odyssey over badge placement
Wed, 02 Oct 2013Without looking under the hood or at a vehicle history report, one of the easiest way to tell if a car has had body work done is to check the location and placement of the exterior badges. A crooked, misplaced or missing badge can be a telltale sign that there has been some sort of body or paint work. For this reason, Honda is suggesting that some owners of the 2014 Odyssey take their vans into the dealership for a little rebadging.
The topic was brought to light after Consumer Reports received a notice from Honda saying that the "Odyssey" badge on its test vehicle was incorrectly installed at the factory. The badge is supposed to go on the driver's side of the liftgate (as shown above), but the customer vehicles had it placed on the passenger side of the car. Not a huge deal unless an owner is trying to sell the vehicle and the improperly installed badge leads potential owners into believing the vehicle may have been damaged in some way. Here's what Honda said in its letter:
On some 2013 Odyssey vehicles, the Odyssey emblem was incorrectly installed on the passenger's side of the rear tailgate. The emblem should be installed on the drivers' side of the rear tailgate. American Honda Motor Company highly recommends that you participate in this Product Update. The placement of the emblem may indicate that the vehicle has had repairs performed that are consistent with it being in a crash. This could affect the resale value of the vehicle.
Toyota, Nissan, Honda will work together on hydrogen filling stations
Thu, Feb 12 2015Japan's own version of the Big Three is taking on a transportation effort that's a far cry from the large-engined history of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler. In fact, Toyota, Nissan and Honda are looking to do their part – and maybe a little more – for the environment by working together to collaborate on accelerating the deployment of hydrogen fuel delivery in Japan. More refueling stations means more convenience for prospective hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle owners. Toyota says the specifics, including investment amount and the number of stations to be deployed, will be "determined at a later date." Still, the effort dovetails with that of the Japanese government. That government announced a so-called Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells last June and subsequently said it would start offering about $20,000 worth of incentives for fuel cell vehicle buyers. In December, Toyota started selling its first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle, the Mirai, in Japan and said it would almost triple production to 2,000 vehicles in 2016 from 700 this year. Last month, the Tokyo government began talks with Toyota and Honda to collaborate on ensuring that there'd be at least 6,000 fuel-cell vehicles on Japan's roads in time for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Tokyo officials are looking to have 100,000 fuel-cell vehicles on the city's roads by 2025. Check out Toyota's press release below. Toyota, Nissan, and Honda to Jointly Support Hydrogen Station Infrastructure Development Toyota Motor Corporation, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. have agreed to work together to help accelerate the development of hydrogen station infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). Specific measures to be undertaken by the three manufacturers will be determined at a later date. For hydrogen-fueled FCVs to gain popularity, it is not only important that attractive products be launched-hydrogen station infrastructure must also be developed. At present, infrastructure companies are making every effort to build such an infrastructure, but they face difficulties in installing and operating hydrogen stations while FCVs are not common on the road. Following the formulation of its Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in June 2014, the Japanese government has highlighted the importance of developing hydrogen station infrastructure as quickly as possible in order to popularize FCVs.
