  • The car currently has 196,314 miles.
  • I am selling it because my daily commute to and from work decreased significantly, and more importantly, I plan on moving soon and will not be able to take this and my other car with me.

Detailed History and Known Issues

Since buying this car last year, I have encountered some problems with it that I will describe here.  These are known issues based on personal experience and unfortunately I do not have any information from the previous two owners.  I will be as honest as I can to describe everything so you are fully aware of the potential issues.  All service records since I bought the car will be provided.
  • 2012, July 8th: Car purchased from second owner.  Approximately, 190,300 miles on the odometer.  I have the CARFAX Vehicle History Report from back then if you are interested.
  • 2012, July 9th ~ 13th: 190,639 miles.  During the first week of ownership the Check Engine Light came on.  I took it to the local Honda dealership (Williamsburg Honda) and they told me that the check engine light was due to Code P2000 ("Oxides of Nitrogen Trap Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1").  So, the car will need a new catalytic converter (expensive fix!) at some point in the future.  At this time I had them do a 5K mile service which included: an oil change (0W20 Mobil), replacement of the transmission fluid, new air filter, new cabin filter, and new spark plugs were installed.  The front wiper inserts were replaced as well.  They also told me that the left rear shock was leaking, though they didn't note this as an issue on subsequent visits.
  • 2012, August 9th: 191,952 miles.  New 12V battery installed by Williamsburg Honda.
  • 2012, August 24th: The dreaded IMA Light came on...  Kept driving the car around with just the gasoline engine with no electric motor assist.
  • 2013, February 4th: 196,040 miles.  Oil and filter change, and state safety inspection at Williamsburg Honda.
  • 2013, April 25th: The car was towed to Williamsburg Honda after it stopped running while I was driving home...  Couldn't get it to start-up.  First the CD-player quit, then the lights of the dash dimmed and flickered, then the engine quit when I stopped at a stop-light.
  • 2013, April 26th: 196,280 miles.  The car is now up and running again after being serviced at Williamsburg Honda.  During this last service visit, Williamsburg Honda also noted that the valves are noisy and that they possibly need adjusting.  They could not duplicate the problem that I had the night before, but, did find "Code 58 in IMA System".  Also, they noted, "Tested all was good except 12 volt battery so charged with GR-8 then tested good.  Possible temporary failure at this time."  Not very helpful...  After this "reset" the car is running fine; the IMA Light is now off and the electric motor is assisting the gasoline engine once again.  The AUTO idle STOP function is once again working and the check engine light has managed to remain off as well, and it's running like the day I bought it almost a year ago.
So, I'm not entirely confident in this car's IMA batteries...  It probably needs to be replaced soon (which I can't afford), or perhaps they just need to be rebalanced.  The catalytic converter will need to be replaced at some point in the future, not to mention a possible left rear shock leak that may need attention.  Lastly, there is problem with the synchro (common for these cars) so the transmission grinds when down shifting to second gear unless you double-clutch.  I think this car would be perfect for someone who knows a lot about these cars and loves working on them.

Additional Information

Thanks for reading this far!  I'm almost done.  There are a few more things I'd like to mention before I either succeed or fail at convincing you to place a bid for this car.

The overall condition of this 9+ year old car is average to good.  There are no major flaws on the exterior or interior of the car.  However, there are some minor cosmetic and functional flaws throughout as you might expect of a 2004 model; a couple of small dings on both doors, driver side power window motor seems weak (still functioning though), lots of small chips in the paint on the front bumper (did the previous owner(s) live on a dirt road?), fading of the "H" symbol sticker on the rear hatch (I will provide a replacement that I haven't had a chance to "install"), top of the steering wheel feels worn-out, the small light next to the passenger's side headlight doesn't turn on (but, it sometimes does; bad connection or bulb?), all other lights work fine.  The headlights are clouded and should be restored; I used BlueMagic Headlight Lens Restorer and Sealer and it helped, but, as you can see in the photos, the lights are still cloudy.  All tires have a decent amount of tread left on them.  The small nub to adjust the direction of air flow on the passenger side air vent is missing (see picture).  All four alloy wheels have scuff marks on them.  That's about it as far as notable issues and problems are concerned.

F1's Fernando Alonso gets 35-place penalty for latest Honda engine change

Fri, Sep 1 2017

MONZA, Italy — McLaren's Fernando Alonso will collect a 35-place grid penalty for Sunday's Italian Grand Prix after Honda announced changes to his car's power unit. The penalty means the double world champion, whose future at McLaren remains uncertain due to the team's continuing engine woes, will start at the back of the 20-car grid for the last European race of the season. His chances were limited anyway at Monza's 'Temple of Speed,' the fastest circuit on the calendar where engine performance is crucial. His Belgian teammate Stoffel Vandoorne suffered a similar fate when he was handed a 65-place penalty for his home race at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend. Such meaningless penalties incurred through no fault of the driver have come increasingly under scrutiny in Formula One with some saying the system has got out of control and must change. "I hate the fact that we're having to affect the racing because of the technical issues," Formula One managing director Ross Brawn, a title-winning former team principal and ex-Ferrari technical director, told motorsport.com. "I know you can say if a car breaks down in a race that's a technical issue and you've affected the race, but I think the fans understand that. "For a fan to stomach that his hero is on the back of the grid because he had to change the engine, that's not great sport," added the Briton. Brawn suggested a different form of penalty, or removing it altogether, but acknowledged that the sport might have to wait until 2021 when new engine regulations will come into force. The current Formula One regulations stipulate that each driver may use no more than four power units during a championship season, with that number due to be reduced to three next year. Each power unit is made up of six separate elements; the engine, the motor generator unit-kinetic (MGU-K), the motor generator unit-heat (MGU-H), the energy store, turbocharger and control electronics. Grid penalties are imposed if a driver uses more than four of any one of the elements during the course of a season, and for successive breaches. Honda said Alonso was now on his seventh engine and MGU-K, his ninth turbocharger and MGU-H, his sixth energy store and fifth control electronics. Alonso retired from the Belgian Grand Prix but some components of the power unit used there will be run again in Friday's second practice after Honda said they could find no obvious problem.

In Honda Super Bowl ad, Ridgeline teaches sheep to sing

Tue, Feb 2 2016

Honda hopes that its Super Bowl ad's combination of a classic Queen song and an adorable premise are enough to get customers excited about the 2017 Ridgeline. The 60-second spot for the new pickup airs during the game's third quarter, and the commercial is sure to leave Somebody to Love stuck in your head. The spot titled A New Truck to Love stars a sheep rancher who likes to listen to Freddie Mercury while hauling animals to the field. He even uses the truck's bed-mounted stereo to enjoy some tunes while at work. The sheep apparently like Queen's songs because they start singing along when their owner is away. This is the one of the better auto ads for Super Bowl 50 that we've seen yet. A look at the truck's capabilities would be nice, but at least the commercial's premise is highly enjoyable. Plus, it's hard not to enjoy Queen. Honda's spot could be a popular one during this year's game. Innovative 2017 Honda Ridgeline Pickup Leads the Flock in New Super Bowl Commercial Feb 1, 2016 60-second commercial features music by Queen, performed by some unlikely and unforgettable co-stars Directed by Bryan Buckley, creator of more than 40 Super Bowl ads Extensive multiplatform campaign to support launch of new TV spot Consumers can enter to win a first drive of new Honda truck at "Camp Ridgeline" Honda today offered a sneak peek of the brand's commercial for Super Bowl 50 starring the highly innovative 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup, a wily herding dog and a flock of sheep singing a classic Queen song, "Somebody to Love." Fans tuning in to Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, Feb. 7, will see the 60-second spot, "A New Truck to Love," during the third quarter, but the entertaining commercial is now available for viewing in its entirety on Honda's YouTube channel (http://honda.us/BigGameCommercial). Directed by Oscar-nominated director Bryan Buckley — dubbed "King of the Super Bowl" for his role in bringing to life more than 40 commercials for the big game — the new Honda commercial imagines how a rancher might use one of Ridgeline's available features, the industry's very first factory truck-bed audio system, enabling music to play outside the truck. This poses the question, "What if his sheep learned how to sing?" with the commercial showing the sheep being dropped off by the new Ridgeline and then performing the classic Queen hit after the rancher departs. The spot signals not only Honda's return to the Super Bowl, but the return of the all-new Ridgeline to market.

See the evolution of McLaren F1 cars in one GIF

Wed, Apr 26 2017

If you dig racecars and history, you'll enjoy the .gif file on display below. It comes to us from the folks at automotive parts website PartCatalog.com, and it shows how McLaren's Formula 1 cars have changed from the very first one to this season's black and orange Honda-powered machine. And they have certainly changed. That very first car had scarcely an aerodynamic aid to the radically winged racer of today. It's also interesting to see how driver positioning has changed over the years. Through the '70s and '80s, the driver was pushed farther and farther to the front. Then in the '90s and '00s, the driver started to be pushed back to the middle, and longer noses became common. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. This .gif file isn't just interesting for seeing how the cars have changed, though. It also features some of the most famous F1 cars of all time. Fans of vintage F1 racing and of the film Rush may recognize the McLaren M23 James Hunt piloted to a championship victory over rival Nicki Lauda in 1976. There's also the 1985 McLaren MP4/2B that was the last McLaren Nicki Lauda would drive, and the car that would take Alain Prost to a championship. Prost's rival Ayrton Senna also has a car in this .gif, and that's the 1988 Honda-powered car he drove to his first ever championship. There are many other cars in this .gif we don't have time to cover though, but you can learn more about them and the cars we mentioned by checking out McLaren's great history page. Each car there has a brief profile covering the stats, and lengthier articles with more background. It's a great way to spend a morning. Related Video:
