2000 Honda Insight Hybrid With Mima on 2040-cars
New Milford, New Jersey, United States

The Insight was the first mass-produced hybrid automobile sold in the United States, achieving 70 miles per US gallon per its original EPA fuel efficenty rating.
The 2000 Insight ranks as the most efficient EPA certified gasoline-powered vehicle ever, with a highway rating of 61 miles per US gallon and combined city/highway rating of 53 miles per US gallon. Based on the Honda J-VX concept car, the insight features optimized aerodynamics and a lightweight aluminum structure to maximize fuel efficiency. The car listed has a lifetime fuel efficiency of 53.8 mpg (that's steadily increasing) over 128,800 miles with an average of 60 mpg in a daily commute and a best tank of 70 mpg. This is a great original mileage first gen 5-speed insight. I have found this first Gen Honda Insight to be a great machine that's fun to drive. The detail on this car shows! The body is very nice, and the paint shines! The 1.0 liter 3 cylinder 67 HP gasoline engine that can run in lean burn conditions and is assisted by the 10 kW (13 HP) pancake electric motor. The electric motor is a flat 3-phase electric drive assist motor that takes the place of a standard flywheel. The Insight uses a series hybrid system, where the electric motor assists the gasoline motor when requested instead of a parallel hybrid system (such as the prius). The electric motor powers the hybrid only when the hybrid controller requests more power. This setup allows a very efficient motor to achieve excellent gas mileage and has extra power from the electric assist. The extra MIMA system really brings out the fun in this car and let you control the Integrated Motor Assist system. The interior is in great condition and the spare tire is filled and the original tools are included. The seats and rugs are in good condition and show normal wear; the steering wheel, dash, headliner, door panels, trunk carpeting, etc have no rips or heavy wear. The tires are 165/65 R14 Michelin Energy Savers and ride smooth at the maintained recommended pressure of 38 psi with plenty of tread. The tires are rated up to 51 psi to boost your maximum fuel efficiency. The door seal rubber is intact, with no rips (around the doors, rear hatch, hood, etc.) Mechanically, everything works on the car. It performs flawlessly, gets into and holds lean burn perfectly, does not leak or burn any fluids at all, and is a super smooth rider. The IMA system maintains the battery charge and discharge exactly as it should. It assists and regens as expected when the MIMA system is turned off. When MIMA is turned on, the stock IMA works as expected until you take control. Two joysticks mounted on the e-brake and stick shift allow you to take over the electric power of the IMA system. In the start-up mode of MIMA, you are able to manually control the IMA system to perform as you want under your control. When you release the joysticks in this mode, the IMA system takes over and works like the stock system. In the other two modes of MIMA, you can program the system to react to changing conditions as you want. A well programmed MIMA system (or PIMA) can produce 70, 80 MPG or better with a little practice. Competitions have produced fuel efficiencies greater than 100 MPG using this system. Using the Manual Integrated Motor Assist (MIMA) and cycling the battery pack helps to maintain the best integrity of the system. The 144 Volt 6.5 Amp battery pack is charged while using MIMA to charge more when coasting down hills and coming up to stops. Regular MIMA charging the pack peaks and equalizes the cells within the pack. This is good for the battery, and prolongs it's life and health. The car has the owners manual, two keys, two remotes and a valet key. The clutch and 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and quickly. The accessories work great; the A/C is ice cold and the heat is toasty; the standard equipment is in great condition including the fan, power windows, power locks, turn signals, headlights taillights, all the dash gauges including the three trip meters (A, B and FCD), horn, stock Honda am/fm/cassette stereo, speakers, rear trunk release actuator, rear trunk lock, hatch struts. All jack equipment and spare tire are in place and in good shape. This car is as nice as they come. These first gen 5-speeds are fun to drive, and even more fun when you realize you only go thru about 10 gallons of gas, every 600+ miles! I encourage you to come look and drive the car yourself. I will provide additional pictures of the interior, engine, MIMA, etc on request, just let me know. This car will ship anywhere in the continental US. Thank you for your time This item is listed in other sites. Seller may remove listing if vehicle is sold through another site. |

Honda to show off conceptual new Ridgeline truck at SEMA
Sun, Oct 25 2015The SEMA show is coming up fast, and Honda is not about to miss out on the festivities. To that end, the Japanese automaker has announced a raft of customized vehicles it's bringing to the tuner expo in Vegas early next month. Potentially one of the most enticing debuts will be the Ridgeline Desert Race Truck. Following the preview sketch (seen above) of the next-gen pickup released at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year, the new concept is set to give us an even better glimpse at the 2017 model of the four-door, short-bed crossover pickup to come. The vehicle's debut will also mark the factory's return to off-road competition, which ought to come as a welcome development for racing fans. The Ridgeline won't be Honda's only debut at the SEMA show this year, however. There'll also be four modified versions of the HR-V compact crossover, each customized by a different American aftermarket firm, and custom takes on the CR-Z hybrid, Civic sedan, and Pilot crossover. Look for the Powersports and HPD divisions to showcase their latest at the event as well, while the Acura division does its own thing. The "racing Ridgeline" also marks Honda's re-entry into Honda Performance Development (HPD)-powered factory off-road racing. Also within the Honda display will be four Honda HR-V project vehicles, built in partnership with several highly creative U.S.-based automotive tuning houses.
2018 Honda Accord charges into slumping sedan market
Sat, Jul 15 2017DETROIT - Honda on Friday revealed its newest-generation Accord, one of four re-engineered midsize sedans that Asian automakers are betting on to win market share as Detroit automakers shift focus to SUVs, crossovers, and pickup trucks. The new Accord, like rival Toyota's all-new Camry arriving this month, offers major improvements in fuel economy, technology, styling and safety. Honda declined to discuss details ahead of Friday's event in Detroit. The Accord and Camry are pillars of their manufacturers' US businesses, each selling well over 300,000 vehicles a year. In the coming months, Nissan is expected to launch a new Altima midsize sedan, and Hyundai will launch a new Sonata. Both are popular marques that will be promoted heavily. "There has been no new news on the midsize sedan side for three years, and we think this is a great opportunity to bring attention back to the segment," said Jack Hollis, Toyota's head of marketing for North America. Year to date, US passenger car sales are down 11.4 percent, and sales of midsize sedans are down 14.2 percent. Still, Americans bought 7.1 million sedans in 2016. With General Motors and Ford cutting sedan production, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles abandoning the segment, Honda and its Asian rivals could boost sales with updated models, dealers said. "They could take share from other brands, which is traditionally what happens when a new product is launched," said Pete DeLongchamps, vice president for manufacturer relations at Group 1 Automotive Inc, the third-largest US auto dealer group. "NOT FINDING A PLACE WITH CONSUMERS" The Accord for years was Honda's top-selling model in the United States. Within the past year, US sales of the Honda CR-V have eclipsed the aging Accord, and Honda has expanded production capacity for the compact crossover. Passenger-car sales have steadily declined since 2012, when they made up 51.2 percent of the US market. Sedans have sagged to a 38.1 percent share in the first half of this year. IHS Markit said US consumer loyalty to SUVs and pickup trucks has risen since 2012, but declined for sedans. The new Accord and Camry "may stem the decline," said IHS Markit's Tom Libby. "I don't think they will cause a marked reverse." Improvements to the Accord should boost sales at Galpin Honda in San Fernando, California, general manager Ed Hartoonian said.
Honda boss says Chinese drivers don't want green cars
Wed, 24 Apr 2013According to The Wall Street Journal, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito believes that China's nascent car-buying demographic isn't all that interested in hybrid cars - at least not yet. The emissions story doesn't resonate with them, and certainly not for the higher purchase premium such models usually carry. What they really want, Ito believes, is reliable, affordable cars that fit their needs. When it comes to Honda sales, the numbers would appear to jibe with his thoughts: Honda sold 598,577 vehicles in China last year through its two joint ventures, yet just 542 of them were hybrids - not even a tenth of a percent. However, Toyota sold 840,500 cars in China last year, and two percent of that total, 17,300 units, were hybrids, which is closer to the still-piddling three-percent ratio of sales that Toyota posted in the US last year.
Honda offers the Insight, Fit Hybrid and CR-Z in China and plans to make components for its Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system there from next year, the hope being it will reduce the cost of hybrid cars for local buyers. That was one part of the plan Honda laid out last year to popularize its IMA system in China. Other initiatives include the introduction of a new hybrid system for mid-sized and large vehicles and a plug-in hybrid. Among the four new vehicles Honda showed during this weekend's press day for the Shanghai Motor Show (including the Concept M minivan pictured above) there was not a single hybrid among them.
