Honda issues stop sale on 2016 Civic with 2.0-liter engine

Honda has issued a stop sale on the 2016 Civic with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder for a problem that might allegedly lead to engine failure. The company also plans to recall and inspect the examples already with customers. Honda spokesperson Chris Martin tells Autoblog that the issue doesn't affect any Civics with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. "While the specific details of this action are still being determined, American Honda has provided preliminary information to the NHTSA and intends to provide more details in a formal notification to NHTSA on Friday, February 5," Martin said. After the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration acknowledges the details, Honda will issue an official statement about the problem. A post on the CivicX forum purports to have a Honda document detailing the fault. Some of the 2.0-liter engines may have missing or miss-set piston pin snap rings, which could cause damage to the pistons and other internal parts. The issue reportedly affects roughly 34,000 examples of the 2016 Civic. If the document from the CivicX forum are accurate, dealers will use a borescope to inspect the pin snap rings on the potentially affected engines. According to the forum, replacement parts are not yet available, and Honda expects to notify customers about the recall in March. Autoblog drove the turbocharged version of the 2016 Civic late in 2015 and came away fairly impressed. We loved the new engine and quiet interior but weren't so enamored with the CVT. Honda Civic coupe concept gets Type R render

In presenting the Civic coupe concept at the New York Auto Show earlier this month, Honda confirmed that the Type R will eventually be coming to North America. Honda just didn't say when, and in what form. But given the announcement's coincidence with the coupe concept's unveiling, it stands to reason the Type R could look less like the current hatchback and more like the two-door that was unveiled. And if it is, it'd probably look something like this. At least, we hope. Created by Wild-Speed.com and posted on the enthusiast forums at CivicX.com, these renderings envision what a Type R version of the Civic concept would look like – with two doors and all the go-fast bits. It may not be bright green anymore, but it sure looks mean – from the aggressive aero kit to the performance rolling stock. It's even got quad exhaust tips like the Euro-market hot hatch, but mounted in the center like the concept's. Junkyard Gem: 1991 Honda Prelude Si 4WS

The third-generation Honda Prelude was sold in the United States for the 1988 through 1991 model years, and the Si version with the optional four-wheel-steering system was one of the best-handling cars of its time. Most of these cars were used up and discarded a decade or so ago, but I spotted this one in a Northern California wrecking yard last week. The mechanical four-wheel-steering system on these cars enabled them to eat up much more expensive machinery in the corners. Though 140 horses out of 2.1 liters doesn't sound like so much today, a quarter-century ago it was very impressive in a car this size. Why did this car get scrapped? Perhaps that Honda Achilles heel, the fragile head gasket, signed its death warrant, or perhaps it just got too battered for its last owner to pay off a sheaf of parking tickets.
