Honda motorcycles most stolen, just like Honda autos

It comes as no surprise that Honda's Civic and Accord are the most stolen cars in America, but as it turns out, thieves like the company's motorcycles the most too, according to a study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). Out of the 46,061 two-wheelers stolen in 2012, 9,082 of them were Hondas. While that's bad news for Honda motorcycle owners, at least motorcycle theft went down slightly from 2011, which had 46,667 reported thefts. Motorcycle theft recoveries, on the other hand, were just 39 percent.
Yamaha is up next in the theft rankings (7,517), then Suzuki (7,017). The numbers drop a bit for fourth and fifth place, Kawasaki (4,839) and Harley-Davidson (3,755). These five brands are far and away the most stolen motorcycles: sixth place, apparently held by scooter, dirtbike and ATV maker Taotao, dropped to 914 theft reports.
California had the most reported thefts (6,082), followed by Florida (4,110), Texas (3,400), North Carolina (2,574) and Indiana (2,334). By city, New York City had the most reported thefts (903), followed by Las Vegas (757), San Diego (633), Indianapolis (584) and Miami (535.

Man fends off carjackers with car wash pressure sprayer

A simple car wash turned ugly for a Louisiana man last week when he was jumped by carjackers while washing his car. Michael Davis and his brother swung into a self-serve car wash in Shreveport one evening so that Davis could clean his new car. As he was spraying down the bright red Honda Accord, a man entered the wash bay and approached him. "I turned and said, 'I'm not interested I don't have any money or anything', and when I turned back around a guy had come around the corner with a gun pointed at me," Davis told WWII12. Thinking fast, Davis defended himself with the car wash's high-pressure sprayer. "He said, 'Give me your keys and your money,' and I said, 'What'd you say?', and I took the sprayer and just sprayed it right in his face. I heard his friend try to run and get my backside, so I turned around and sprayed him and hit him and they took off running. The whole situation was so surreal." The incident was caught on Davis' dashcam, which showed him spraying the carjackers with the sprayer at close range then hitting both of them over the head with it. Thankfully, the carjackers decided to run instead of pushing the issue, but Davis says that what bothers him is what could have happened. "If they would've taken my keys and my money they probably would have shot me anyway, plus I had my disabled veteran brother in the car. They could have done something to him as well." Honda to lead Rose Parade with hybrid tech

What are you doing New Year's Day? We're probably going to watch Urban Meyer's retirement bash the Rose Bowl, but we love a nice parade, too. To kick the day off, Honda will be leading the 130th Rose Parade with its own float, an Insight hybrid and an Acura RDX crossover. Not only will Honda be celebrating the new year, it'll also celebrate its 60th anniversary in the U.S. As such, the main float will be shaped like a 25-foot-tall birthday cake. And 60 band members from the historically black colleges and universities' marching bands — which recently took part in a battle of the bands sponsored by Honda — will represent the candles on the cake. It'll also be decorated to re-create the look of the automaker's first storefront in Los Angeles. The float will be called "Celebration of Dreams," a fitting title for a company whose founder Soichiro Honda famously said, "The day I stop dreaming is the day I die." (The first thing you see when entering the amazing Honda Collection Hall at Twin Ring Motegi is a large, circular glass sculpture with the word "Dream" and Soichiro Honda's signature). For the parade, the Honda Insight will serve as the official pace car, while the Acura RDX will play the role of sound car. The float itself will be propelled by a modified Honda hybrid powertrain. The main float will be flanked by five "satellite" floats, each representing facets of the company. These will include a Honda Super Cub motorbike; a floral representation of a 1975 Civic CVCC; a float with crash test dummies and an arch with five stars to represent safety; a Honda Accord, which is built in the U.S.; and a float incorporating elements from the HondaJet to represent the future.
