Up for sale is my well loved 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid. It's now in rough condition, but until recently I was driving it with no problem and getting 40-45mpg. During that time, the IMA light has been on, as has the engine light, but neither have seemed to give me any trouble. I recently put snow tires back on it for the winter- these tires are on their last season, but have at least this season left in them. Two major events have happened in the last month that are causing me to sell the vehicle. The first is that the car was backed into while parked, which you can see in the photos. There is damage to the bumper cover, but according to the body shop, there is not structural damage. They recommend replacing the bumper cover to protect from things like snow buildup. The headlight also needs to be replaced to work properly- it still lights but it's getting a bit cloudy, which they said is due to moisture getting in. The second issue is that the radiator now needs to be replaced. The car still drives, but my mechanic says it shouldn't be driven at this point. He also said that it would be possible to do some sort of repair to get around the radiator temporarily, while the weather is cold, and to drive it minimally in that condition, until the weather is warm. Radiator repair is estimated at $400. At this point, radiator fluid appears to be leaking out and into the antifreeze chamber.
The IMA light has been on for some time. this indicates that the hybrid battery is failing. I have still been getting over 40 mpg, and what I understand is that the car will continue to drive once that battery fails, just won't get the hybrid fuel efficiency. I do not know this to be a fact for sure, it's just what I think that I understand. Additional needs are that the back right window no longer works and the dinging noise to indicate that headlights are on no longer sounds.
I'm selling the car AS IS, hoping that someone will buy it who knows how to do the repairs it needs to keep it going awhile. Before the backing into and the radiator issue, I was hoping to drive it another year at least. It's a comfortable car with great fuel efficiency. It needs to be washed, but we've had sub zero weather here lately, so I haven't done that! Please email me with any questions and I will do my best to answer them.
The title is clear, loan is fully paid, and according to my bank, the title should be being sent from the courthouse any day now.
ETA: I see that the ebay listing shows an accident report being filed Jan 2006. I bought the car from a close friend, and she owned it at that time, so I've emailed her to ask what it was. Will post here when I find out. Thanks! Ok- got this info- my friend hit a deer, no major damage though.
Forgot to add that about 2 years ago the catalytic converter was replaced.
On Jan-23-13 at 20:13:30 PST, seller added the following information:
The suspension system also needs quite a bit of work but when I had that looked at by my Honda dealer, they thought that "some people wouldn't drive it across town, and other people would drive it across country. If you're used to its handling, it's probably ok." I'm been driving it fine with a rattly suspension, it is really bumpy and rattly but I am used to it. It is also using oil between oil changes, so I have picked up a few quarts to carry along and add it when needed.

Recharge Wrap-up: Pikes Peak Honda CR-Z, Tesla's liquid-cooled cable
Thu, Jun 18 2015Honda will race a CR-Z hybrid in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The car will use Electric SH-AWD, which probably means it will be using electric motors to power the rear wheels. Whether the Pikes Peak CR-Z uses the same powertrain as the upcoming Acura NSX or the 3.5-liter V6 with three-motor hybrid system used in the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid is still unclear. The car will also use Acura's Precision All-Wheel Steering (P-AWS) system. The CR-Z will be piloted by Tetsuya Yamano. Read more at Hybrid Cars, or, if you read Japanese, at Response. Tesla has introduced a thinner, liquid-cooled Supercharger cable. While the convenience of not having to "wrestle a good-sized snake into the car," as Elon Musk calls it in a shareholder speech, is wonderful, it could also allow for faster charging in the future. The liquid-cooled charging cable "also has the potential for increased power of the Supercharger long-term," says Musk. A cable able to withstand larger loads could mean shorter stops when it's time for a charge. Tesla has installed the first next-generation cable at the Mountain View Supercharger. In addition to the 71-horsepower Smart Fortwo, the DCT will now be available in the 90-horsepower Fortwo and the 71-horsepower Forfour. In the Fortwo, the Twinamic DCT adds ˆ1,275 (about $1,437) to the price over the manual transmission, and is an extra ˆ1,425 (about $1,606) in the Forfour. The option of steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters as part of the Sport package makes driving the efficient microcar even more fun. Deliveries of the newly equipped vehicles begin at the end of July. Read more in the press release below. smart extends twinamic range for fortwo and forfour: Even more models with automatic transmission Stuttgart. Following in the footsteps of the smart fortwo with 52 kW/71 hp, the smart fortwo with 66 kW/90 hp and the smart forfour with 52 kW/71 hp are now also available with fully automatic twinamic dual clutch transmission. This costs an extra 1275 euros compared to the versions with 5-speed manual transmission (forfour: 1425 euros). This means that both model series now offer a choice between no fewer than nine engine/transmission combinations. Delivery of the new models will begin at the end of July 2015.
Honda rolls out various oddities for 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon
Thu, Dec 25 2014On January 9 the doors at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba will open for the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon. and you know what that means, boys and girls: that's right, all sorts of strange mod jobs. Not to be confused with the Tokyo Motor Show that's Japan's main automotive expo, the Tokyo Auto Salon is the Nipponese equivalent of SEMA. Honda is among the first to announce its lineup for the show, and, well... let's just say they're not all hideous and leave it at that. The H brand has got a whole array of customized machinery in store for the tuner expo, starting with the new N-Box Slash that just went on sale in Japan as the company's latest Kei car. One version of the tall wagon on the tiny wheelbase is obviously inspired by America, or at least a Japanese impression of what American car culture is like: it's decked out in red with racing stripes, flame graphics, a highway road sign and strange checkerboard wheels. Another N-Box Slash dubbed the Cyber Code:89 concept looks like something from anime, all decked out in futuristic graphics and glowing lights. A third example is rather more tastefully done up in teal with yellow accents. Of course Honda hasn't put all its eggs in the Slash basket, turning its attention as it has to other models in the JDM lineup. There's a retro N-One concept with a low-key grey and white exterior but with a zany multicolor interior, a tasteful white N-WGN with Modulo accessories, an Odyssey Absolute 20th Anniversary edition minivan, a take on the NM4 cruiser bike that'd look right at home in Akira and – one of our favorites from the lot – a Mugen take on the Honda Legend that we know as the Acura RLX. Whether your plans will take you to Tokyo for the show or not, you can scope 'em all out in the high-res image gallery for a closer look.
Honda builds 300-millionth motorcycle, it's a Gold Wing
Wed, Nov 26 2014Honda has been selling motorcycles in Japan since 1949. And it's been selling bikes to US customers since John Travolta had a paper route. Combine all those years, huge markets and great products, and apparently the number you come up with is 300,000,000. Wowza. Starting with the iconic 98-cc Dream Type-D you see above, Honda announced that it has built its 300-millionth motorcycle this month. The company currently sells all manner of powersports goodness, of course – ATVs, side-by-sides and two-wheelers – at 32 facilities in 22 countries. Honda motorcycles took our country by storm in the 1960s, taking the title as the best-selling bike brand in the world during that decade, largely on the back of the Honda 50 or "Super Cub" bike. Honda's success in the '60s also helped to justify the establishment its first manufacturing footprint in North America, in Marysville, OH in 1979. The company mentions, in the press release you'll find below, that lucky number 300 million was a Gold Wing produced at the Kumamoto factory in Japan. We're celebrating that tidbit with a heaping helping of historic Gold Wing photography, in the gallery of Honda bikes, above. Honda Marks Unprecedented Milestone: Global Production of 300 Million Motorcycles Nov 24, 2014 - TORRANCE, Calif. Achieving a milestone more than 65 years in the making, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced production of its 300-millionth motorcycle. The milestone bike is a Honda Gold Wing produced at the company's Kumamoto Factory in Japan. Honda will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic Gold Wing in 2015. Honda began mass production of motorcycles in Japan in 1949 when it built the Honda 98cc Dream Type-D. Today, Honda produces motorcycles, ATV's and side-by-sides at 32 plants in 22 countries, including two plants in North America. "This incredible milestone is the result of the millions of customers who have placed their trust in Honda and we would like to thank all of our customers, associates, dealers and community partners in North America for helping make it possible," said Bob Gurga, Vice President and Manager of Motorcycle Division for American Honda. "Now, we are focused on the future and the ways that we can harness the challenging spirit of Honda associates to create new joy for Honda customers." In 1958, Honda introduced the Honda 50, known globally as the Super Cub, which would go on to revolutionize the industry. This iconic bike paved the way for Honda's expansion into the U.S.
