Up for sale is my 1998 Honda Civic HX.  This is a great little car that runs and drives well.  It has a clean interior, a decent looking exterior (a few bruises and bumps but nothing major), and everything works as it should.  The car has good tires with at least 70% tread all the way around.  The car doesn't currently have a radio in it, but I do have a cd player that I could install for the winning bidder (depending on the final bid amount, we can negotiate).  The AC on this car works great and will freeze you out, the heat works great as well.  The interior is clean and in good shape, no major flaws that I can see.  This is one of the lowest mileage Civic HX's that I have seen around and it should serve it's new owner well for years to come.
As stated above, the car does have a few bumps on the exterior, and although they are nothing severe they are noticeable (especially since the car is black in color).  Most of the tiny dings are so small that you can't get them to show up in pictures, but an area to mention is located below the passenger side door handle. I have tried to get it to show up in the pictures but it doesn't show up very well.  There is a small dent/crease running underneath the door handle area to the back of the door.  This is the only significant area of damage that I know of and I want to make sure and point it out (very common for a car of this age).  This car is a decent looking driver, but by no means a show car.

Now most of you looking at this listing know that a Civic HX is one of the most economical civics ever built. I average around 39mpg on long highway trips at 65mph, and about 36mpg with 70/30 hwy/city driving.  I don't know what type of mileage it gets with primarily city driving as I live in an extremely rural area with not so much as a traffic light... :)

I do have a BIN price that I would sell the car for, you can feel free to contact me for that price.  I have a 100% feedback on ebay and have for years... I know how difficult it is to make the decision to purchase a car on ebay, and I do my best to not only represent the car accurately, but to work with you in every way to ensure that you feel good about your purchase (of course within reason).

Now for the disclaimer:  Although this car is a good driving, solid car, please understand that it is 15 years old and by no means a new car.  It can be expected to have chips, dings, stains... although I have tried to point out any of these areas, there is always a way that I could have missed something.  With that said, this car is sold AS IS  WHERE IS with no warranty expressed or implied.   It is up to the bidder to verify any needed information before placing there bid, if you are the winning bidder you have entered a legally binding contract and you are legally obligated to complete the transaction.

You are welcome to come check out the car before bidding, and you can feel free to call me with any questions.  My name is Cole and my number is 573-682-4699
.  This car is for sale locally and can be sold at any time before the auction ends.  I reserve the right to end the auction early for any reason I deem to be necessary.

SAE World Congress: Testing out the Honda UNI-CUB, Walking Assist Device

Fri, Apr 24 2015

Based on the downstairs display at the 2015 SAE World Congress in Detroit this week, you would think that Honda is barely an automaker. Instead, it was a company that focuses on robots, bizarre unicycles, motorcycles, and jets. We were not adverse to the car-related tech on display upstairs, but we wanted a closer look at the UNI-CUB and the Walking Assist Device. The UNI-CUB is one of the strangest vehicles we've ever experienced. It feels telepathic, because when you're sitting on it and think you want to go forward, your body naturally leans and then the UNI-CUB starts to move. The UNI part of the name stands for unicycle, but that's kind of a misnomer, since this thing has more than one wheel. First off, there's a tiny wheel for balance at the rear, but the main wheel itself is made up of multiple smaller wheels, which Honda calls the Omni Traction Drive System. This is what lets the UNI-CUB move side to side instead of just frontwards and backwards. The Walking Assist Device is a small setup with motors, leg straps, and a battery pack. The idea is to have the machine help lift up your legs as you walk, with the target audience being people who have had an injury, like a stroke. The WAD sits outside your clothes and can help someone walk for about an hour from a 22.2V-1Ah lithium-ion battery. You can see more in the video above.

Brand new cars are being sold with defective Takata airbags

Wed, Jun 1 2016

If you just bought a 2016 Audi TT, 2017 Audi R8, 2016–17 Mitsubishi i-MiEV, or 2016 Volkswagen CC, we have some unsettling news for you. A report provided to a US Senate committee that oversees the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and reported on by Automotive News claims these vehicles were sold with defective Takata airbags. And it gets worse. Toyota and FCA are called out in the report for continuing to build vehicles that will need to be recalled down the line for the same issue. That's not all. The report also states that of the airbags that have been replaced already in the Takata recall campaign, 2.1 million will need to eventually be replaced again. They don't have the drying agent that prevents the degradation of the ammonium nitrate, which can lead to explosions that can destroy the airbag housing and propel metal fragments at occupants. So these airbags are out there already. We're not done yet. There's also a stockpile of about 580,000 airbags waiting to be installed in cars coming in to have their defective airbags replaced. These 580k airbags also don't have the drying agent. They'll need to be replaced down the road, too. A new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time. If all this has you spinning around in a frustrated, agitated mess, there's a silver lining that is better than it sounds. So take a breath, run your fingers through your hair, and read on. Our best evidence right now demonstrates that defective Takata airbags – those without the drying agent that prevents humidity from degrading the ammonium nitrate propellant – aren't dangerous yet. It takes a long period of time combined with high humidity for them to reach the point where they can rupture their housing and cause serious injury. It's a matter of years, not days. So a new vehicle with a defective Takata airbag should be safe to drive, but that margin of safety decreases with time – and six years seems to be about as early as the degradation happens in the worst possible scenario. All this is small comfort for the millions of people who just realized their brand-new car has a time bomb installed in the wheel or dashboard, or the owners who waited patiently to have their airbags replaced only to discover that the new airbag is probably defective in the same way (although newer and safer!) as the old one.
