1988 Honda Civic Hatchback, Bone Stock With Every Single Service Record Ever! on 2040-cars

For sale is my awesome 1988 Honda Civic. I love this car, but need a truck for work. Every good car has a story, so settle in, here goes:
I am the second owner, and bought the car from a female college professor. This was her first car in 1988, got her through college and everything after. For the last 10 years or so she had mainly kept the car garaged and only driven it every few weeks from New York (where her boyfriend lived) to the college she worked at (Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA) which explains why the mileage is so low. 118K! Civics will easily go 200k miles or more, and a quick search of eBay will show you that most older Civics for sale has 150k miles or more. Most Civics get inevitably cut up or modified by well-meaning, foolish teenagers- this car is bone stock, pristine, the exact same components as it rolled off the factory floor with. I think this car is about half way through its life (in my very humble, non-mechanic opinion.) It is now 26 years old and can qualify for classic car insurance in most states (cheap!) Part of the reason it is in such good shape is that it was owned by one person (and then me, for the last 6 months.) The other part is that the original owner was absolutely meticulous about servicing the car, making sure anything that went wrong was fixed, that service intervals were respected, etc. I have done the same. When I bought the car (and included in this sale) the owner gave me 2 folders stuffed with records for every single service/repair the car had ever received. That's right, every repair, documented- you can see the whole life of the car laid out in front of you. I bought a service manual, also included in the sale. Since I've owner the car, I've only had to do a few little maintenance things to it: changed the oil, replaced the rear hatch shocks, and put in a new alternator. That's it! It passed inspection with flying colors. Inspection is current, title is clear and in my name. Has an aftermarket stereo and speakers sound pretty good. Now, this is a 26 year old car, so I wouldn't expect it to behave like a new car. It's great at what it does best- sips gas (30+ MPG in the city!), can fit into any parking spot in the city, and can actually haul quite a lot (I can fit my bicycle in the back with the seats down without taking off any tires from the bike, I just stuff it in!) So, here's the list of inevitable bumps, bruises, and other oddities:
I'm happy to show the car, answer questions about it, etc. I really like this little blue guy, it's kinda fugly in an awesome way and does every thing its told. Starts ever single time, even in the single degree temps this week (video is from 1/8/2014, outside temp around 15F.) That's all I can think of, anything not listed here is an oversight, this car has nothing to hide. I'm not a mechanic, although I can turn a wrench a bit, so all descriptions of the car are from my experience as the owner and daily driver of the car- I'm not omniscient. Please remember this is an older car, nothing is guaranteed, and bid accordingly. Good luck! |

eBay Find of the Day: Ayrton Senna's 1993 Honda NSX
Fri, 09 Aug 2013It's not often that things owned by the late Ayrton Senna come up for sale, but the seller of this black-on-black 1993 Honda NSX (aka, Acura NSX) eBay find claims it was once owned by the Formula One legend, and that he left a footprint on the factory carpet that can still be seen today. (Footprint, or vacuum lines?...)
NSX no. T000999 was given to Senna as a gift from his mentor and sponsor, Antonio de Almeida Braga, the seller claims, and it was stored at a palace near the Estoril F1 circuit in Portugal. He also was known to drive two other NSXs, a black one and a red one - the latter in which he was seen often.
The seller claims to have owned T000999, which is still in Portugal, for 17 years, and the 31,000-mile odometer indicates it was driven about 1,500 miles per year on average. Thankfully the car has been kept stock, so whoever buys it can enjoy driving it just as Senna did - that is, if the car actually is what it's claimed to be. If the story checks out, then this is one valuable NSX, which is reflected in the high minimum starting bid of 47,500 pounds ($73,620). There have been no bids at time of writing, but with nine days left in the auction, we'll be keeping our eyes on this one.
Acura organizes new business division to confront falling sedan sales
Wed, 26 Feb 2014Honda and Acura North America have announced a major restructuring of operations in hopes of turning around Acura's flagging business. For 2013, sales for Acura's sedans dropped 10.4 percent, while its CUV sales grew by 21 percent. The newly formed Acura Business Planning Office will attempt to right the ship.
As part of the restructuring, Acura is promoting Erik Berkman from President of Honda R&D Americas to lead a new division called the Acura Business Planning Office. Berkman has been with Honda since 1982 and led development of the 2006 Accord. He was also the first US engineer to head North American research and development and has been head of Honda Performance Development since 2008. "Erik's appointment to the new Acura Business Planning Office is a clear indication of the high priority we place on Acura," said Honda spokesperson Jeffrey Smith to Automotive News.
American Honda Motor President and CEO Tetsuo Iwamura is also going to be working to improve the business. He has been elected chairman of American Honda's board, and has simultaneously taken the new position of Corporate Brand Officer to improve the management of the company's brands.
Honda Civic Coupe to join 2016 Red Bull Global Rallycross season
Tue, Mar 22 2016Red Bull Global Rallycross is about to get another competitor. Honda has announced that it will campaign the 2016 GRC season with its new Civic Coupe, and rather than just put out a press release, it's gone ahead and given us a look at the two-door's racing livery. Ford, Chevrolet, Volkswagen, and Subaru – be prepared. Based loosely on the production Civic Coupe, Olsbergs MSE and Honda Performance Division put in the wrench time to turn the ho-hum standard road car into a 600-horsepower, all-wheel-drive monster that can hit 60 in a hypercar-humiliating 1.9 seconds. And like all GRC cars, it will have no trouble managing some serious jumps. Piloting this hilariously potent coupe will be Sebastian Eriksson and 2014 series champion Joni Wiman. Wiman is Finnish, so his GRX championship should come as no shock. We have to say, compared to the GRX cars found in Europe, this Civic looks remarkably tame. We'd have no issue visualizing the body tweaks on this racer on a production Civic Type R. Then again, we're comparing it with the last big-time GRX entry we heard about – Ken Block's Ford Focus RS, which is running in FIA rallycross. According to Honda, OMSE and HPD will have the Civic Coupe GRX car ready for the season opener on May 21 and 22 at Phoenix's Wild Horse Pace Motorsports Park. The Honda Civic Red Bull GRC team will begin racing on May 21 in Phoenix at the first event of the season. Developed from a production-model 2016 Civic Coupe chassis by renowned builders and racers Olsbergs MSE (OMSE) with technical assistance from Honda Performance Development (HPD), the all-new Civic Red Bull GRC car is built to withstand the rigorous demands of racing in a series that emphasizes repeated aggressive acceleration and varied terrain. The car will boast more than 600 horsepower, turn in a 0-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds and is designed to handle the 70 foot table-top jumps featured on each racetrack.
