receives significant enhancements for 2006 with the addition of an electronic
Drive-by-Wire throttle control and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). Widely
considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car and performance
icon for the Honda brand, the S2000 combines uncompromising racetrack-ready
performance with everyday usability. For 2006, Honda builds on that
foundationwith significant updates to further improve performance and
refinement. Read more: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/honda/2006-honda-s2000-ar12172.html#ixzz2dllyNozi Notable
changes to the 2006 S2000 include electronic Drive-by-Wire (DBW) Throttle
System(TM), Vehicle
Stability Assist (VSA(R)), maintenance minder system, standard headrest
speakers, an outside temperature gauge, revised seat and console designs, a
unique new alloy wheel design, and the addition of Laguna Blue Pearl as an
exterior color. The S2000’s renowned high-revving,
2.2-liter, DOHC, VTEC(TM) (Variable Valve Timing and Lift
Electronic Control) 4-cylinder engine remains the pinnacle of naturally
aspirated performance technology, delivering 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and
162 lb-ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine’s output
characteristics is a compact, longitudinally mounted, close-ratio 6-speed
manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and
short throws. For 2006, the S2000 comes equipped
with a Drive-by-Wire throttle control system eliminating the need for a
mechanical connection between the throttle pedal and the engine. This enables
the continuous monitoring and adjustment of throttle pedal sensitivity to
create an ideal match between throttle response and driving conditions. The
system also manages the S2000’s cruise control function for greater
precision. Also new for 2006 is Honda’s
Vehicle Stability Assist system, making the S2000 more stable and forgiving
than ever during street driving or in inclement weather conditions. Working in
concert with the Drive-by-Wire system, VSA continuously monitors yaw rate,
steering input, throttle input, and braking pressure to determine if the car is
following its driver’s intended path, and can independently coordinate each of
the disk brakes through the 4-channel anti-lock brake system, along with
the throttle, to enhance vehicle stability. While this serves to effectively
enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system
can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it. To help
provide optimum stopping power, the braking system also features Electronic
Brake Distribution and Brake Assist. The S2000’s rear-wheel-drive
chassis and powertrain layout results in a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution
for perfect balance when cornering, while its hybrid monocoque body and
"high X-bone frame" results in exceptional structural rigidity.
Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric
power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result
is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver. Standard features for the S2000
include a power retractable convertible top, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels,
leather trimmed seats, and High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, now with
daytime running lights. An aluminum hardtop and XM~n Satellite Radio are
available as dealer installed options. For 2006, the S2000 cockpit
receives a new seat design and an updated console. Racecar style digital gauges
and driver oriented control layout characterize the Formula 1 inspired
interior, while new headrest speakers enhance audio enjoyment during top-down
driving. Additional equipment includes an AM/FM stereo CD player, power
windows, power door locks, keyless entry, and a new outside temperature gauge.
Also new for 2006 is a maintenance minder system that notifies the driver when
service is required based on driving conditions and oil life rather than on
fixed time or mileage intervals and daytime running lamps. Laguna Blue Pearl is a new color
for 2006 that compliments the S2000’s sharp-edged roadster styling You can

Five automakers now being investigated by NHTSA for airbag woes
Thu, 12 Jun 2014It appears that Toyota's renotification to owners of recalled vehicles from last year is just the tip of the iceberg for what could potentially be a much larger industry-wide recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation investigation into roughly 1.1 million vehicles from Chrysler, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and parts supplier Takata regarding faulty airbag inflators in several models.
NHTSA has received six reports - three directly, two from Takata and one from Toyota - of vehicles with ruptured airbag inflators from 2002-2006, which resulted in three injuries. So far, all six incidents have occurred in high humidity areas like Florida and Puerto Rico. According to Toyota's latest recall announcement, the inflators may have an improper propellant that could cause it to rupture in a crash and the bag to deploy abnormally.
This new investigation follows a previous recall from April 2013 of about 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for the airbag inflators from Takata. As Autoblog reported, Toyota jumpstarted the new situation when it found that the original list of serial numbers for the faulty part was incomplete and discovered more cars in need of replacement. Honda and Nissan told us that they were investigating whether further models would need called in again as well. Mazda told Autoblog: "Regarding the current Takata situation, we're working closely with NHTSA and investigating the situation, but nothing else to report at this time." Chrysler Group responded to us with the statement: "Chrysler Group engineers are conducting the appropriate analysis. The Company will cooperate fully with the National Highway Traffic Administration."
2016 Honda Accord Coupe V6 Quick Spin
Wed, Nov 25 2015Popular opinion is that Honda has not been a friend to enthusiasts in recent years. The company killed the awesome S2000, got away from building low-cost driver's cars like the CRX, ruined the Civic Si (on multiple occasions, most notably in 2002 and again in 2012), and kind of neutered Acura into a listless near-premium brand devoid of its original charm. But there are bright spots: We're finally going to get a Civic Type R in the US, and while the new NSX is a long way from the lightweight original, it's still an extremely impressive specimen. And then there's the Accord Coupe, which doesn't necessarily look like a typical performance Honda on first glance. Honda has been building the two-door Accord for decades, even as virtually every other mainstream brand has abandoned the segment. What's even more interesting, is that Honda makes one for the car guys. The company builds a V6-powered, two-door coupe with a six-speed manual transmission that probably accounts for maybe half a percent of the Accord's overall volume. Such a blatant disregard for things like economies of scale could only be achieved by a brand with a real passion for performance. Now that the Accord has been fully refreshed for 2016, we set out to revisit our V6/manual hero. Driving Notes This naturally aspirated V6 produces 278 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque, which admittedly isn't as much as you'd get from the slightly larger V6 engines you'd find in the likes of the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro, or Ford Mustang. But the Honda is extremely willing to rev. That, combined with a startlingly smooth, linear torque curve, means the 3.5-liter Earth Dreams V6 is remarkably composed in both normal and aggressive driving. Low-end grunt is easy to access, despite the 6,200-rpm torque peak, while the throttle response is relatively sharp for what you might expect in an Accord. It sounds spectacular too, with a howly, Civic Si-worthy exhaust note and a notable lack of any piped-in induction silliness. It simply sounds like, you know, an engine – and a very good one at that. The buttery smooth, six-speed manual transmission has a light action, making this a true case where all you need to shift is a flick of the wrist. The clutch pedal is light and the catch point is almost too broad, meaning it's easy to ride the clutch until you get used to this setup. Once you adjust, heel-and-toeing this front-drive coupe actually becomes an entertaining activity.
