Bisimoto 2014 Honda Odyssey packs 1,029 hp plus the kids
Wed, 06 Nov 2013You know, the last time I drove a Honda Odyssey, I thought, "Man, this thing could really use another 781 horsepower." Thank goodness for the folks at Bisimoto, then, who have brought this "Power-Van" to the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. It's your standard seven-passenger Honda Odyssey with massive powertrain tuning to deliver a full 1,029 horsepower. Honda has not listed the torque output, but we imagine it's roughly eleventy billion foot-pounds.
That crazy power bump has been achieved through the use of - *deep breath* - an Infinity ECU, Arias pistons, ARP headstuds and bolts, Bisimoto's own 360-degree oil cap, a cat-back exhaust system, stainless mufflers, an improved fuel pump, new spark plugs, custom headwork, R&R custom steel rods, Turbonetics BTZ7265 twin turbochargers, a wastegate, blowoff valve, VP racing fuels and a whole lot more. Honda says the only chassis/suspension modifications come in the way of Fifteen52 wheels, 225/30-series Toyo T1 Sport tires and Young Guns performance exhaust coatings. So as far as we can tell, this thing still uses a front-wheel-drive setup. I bet it'll do somersaults.
Of course, this is SEMA, where we assume there's a four-modification minimum for any car that enters the Las Vegas Convention Center, so the Odyssey has been given added visual flair, as well. Outside, that means there's a Denmatic design theme, a whole mess of Honda accessories (check out that roof tub) and some new paint. Inside, upgraded upholstery has been fitted, as have Recaro seats.
Honda Clarity Fuel Cell vehicle ready for HyFIVE in Europe
Wed, Nov 30 2016The Honda Clarity Fuel Cell is officially fresh off the boat on the other side of the Pond. Honda has delivered its first production fuel-cell vehicle to Europe as part of the Hydrogen for Innovative Vehicles (HyFIVE) demonstration project that's being administered by the European Union, the automaker said Tuesday. The first European drivers of the Clarity Fuel Cell will be in London and Copenhagen. The EU is putting on the HyFIVE project to help promote fuel-cell vehicle adoption as a way to reduce emissions. Honda is one of five automakers that will deploy 185 fuel-cell vehicles to prospective drivers in Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and the UK. Honda plans to start selling the Clarity Fuel Cell in the US by the end of the year and is expected to offer it both for sale at about $60,000, and for lease at $369 a month. That leasing pricetag is the new magic number when it comes to production fuel-cell vehicles in the States, with the Toyota Mirai sedan also at around that level. Honda said last month that the 2017 model-year version will have a full-tank (of hydrogen) range of 366 miles. That gives the Clarity Fuel Cell the longest range for any production zero-emissions vehicle in the US, beating out the 2016 Tesla Model S P100D (315 miles) and 2017 Mirai (312 miles). Additionally, Honda says that two-thirds of its fleet will be "electrified" by 2030, implying that the Clarity Fuel Cell and its electric and PHEV siblings are just one part of a far broader effort to pull bring the automaker's fleetwide emissions down. Honda patents 11-speed, three-clutch transmission in the name of fuel economy
Mon, Aug 22 2016In an effort to improve fuel economy, automakers are stuffing transmissions with as many gears as possible. General Motors fitted the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with a 10-speed automatic, while the 2017 Ford F-150 will have a variation of the same transmission. Last year, Ford filed a patent for an 11-speed automatic transmission, and now Honda is following suit with its own 11-speed gearbox that will use three – three! – clutches instead of just two. Uncovered by AutoGuide, the patent describes a transmission with eleven gears that utilizes three clutches, with the third somehow reducing the drop in torque that occurs with a shift on a dual-clutch transmission. The result would be a two-fer of improved fuel economy and quicker gear changes. It's not clear how many shafts would be in the transmission – dual-clutches use a pair – or how exactly it is laid out. As it's just in the patent stage, we don't know what type of vehicle would use the 11-speed transmission, or even if Honda will end up making it. Honda could place the high-tech gearbox into a small, fuel-efficient car like the Fit to further improve fuel efficiency or into a larger vehicle like the Pilot that desperately needs a fuel-efficiency boost. The transmission would also have applications in sporty models since it The patent, which was published on May 27, is no longer available on the Japanese patent office's website. Related Video:
