British Honda CR-V looks tough, gets diesel and 9-speed auto

Honda just took the wraps off of its thoroughly updated 2015 CR-V for the US, with a touch more style and improved powertrain to provide more torque and better fuel economy. In our First Drive, we found that all of the changes really focused the CUV even more towards the desires of its audience of mostly families. European crossover shoppers don't have to wait too long to see these tweaks for themselves and get a few exclusive upgrades of their own.
While US models get a torquier gasoline engine, Europe loves its diesels. Therefore, the CR-V over there benefits from a more powerful 1.6-liter i-DTEC oil-burner that produces 158 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This new addition is only available on the four-wheel drive version, and it replaces the previous 2.2-liter diesel in the lineup. Also as opposed to the CVT here, there's now an optional nine-speed automatic gearbox across the pond.
According to Honda, the new diesel with a six-speed manual drops emissions by 11 percent compared to its predecessor. Opting for the nine-speed auto makes things 20 percent cleaner in contrast to the previous 2.2-liter CR-V with an auto.

Man fends off carjackers with car wash pressure sprayer

A simple car wash turned ugly for a Louisiana man last week when he was jumped by carjackers while washing his car. Michael Davis and his brother swung into a self-serve car wash in Shreveport one evening so that Davis could clean his new car. As he was spraying down the bright red Honda Accord, a man entered the wash bay and approached him. "I turned and said, 'I'm not interested I don't have any money or anything', and when I turned back around a guy had come around the corner with a gun pointed at me," Davis told WWII12. Thinking fast, Davis defended himself with the car wash's high-pressure sprayer. "He said, 'Give me your keys and your money,' and I said, 'What'd you say?', and I took the sprayer and just sprayed it right in his face. I heard his friend try to run and get my backside, so I turned around and sprayed him and hit him and they took off running. The whole situation was so surreal." The incident was caught on Davis' dashcam, which showed him spraying the carjackers with the sprayer at close range then hitting both of them over the head with it. Thankfully, the carjackers decided to run instead of pushing the issue, but Davis says that what bothers him is what could have happened. "If they would've taken my keys and my money they probably would have shot me anyway, plus I had my disabled veteran brother in the car. They could have done something to him as well." Honda fielding 11 entrants at Pikes Peak, including 532-hp Odyssey

Is it possible for a minivan to be more exciting than an Acura NSX? Well, Honda is trying to find out by entering a 532-horsepower Odyssey into the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with IndyCar racer Simon Pagenaud behind the wheel.
Starting with a stock Odyssey, Honda dropped in a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 producing an estimated 532 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque as well as racing suspension, tires and brakes and one of the biggest roll cages you're likely to ever see.
