Honda HR-V gets early reveal
Mon, 17 Nov 2014If the Honda HR-V feels awfully familiar to you by now, you're not alone. We've seen it debut in Japanese form (dubbed "Vezel"), caught a prototype in Paris, and Honda first showed us the US-spec version in press-photo form all the way back at the New York Auto Show in April. We're finally going to get all the details on Honda's new subcompact crossover this week as part of the Los Angeles Auto Show, but first, we're getting an early look at the CUV today.
We met the Honda HR-V for a cup of coffee this morning at Randy's Donuts just outside of Los Angeles, and got our first look at the new CUV in the metal. It's a handsome little thing, offering a higher-riding, more butch alternative to the Fit hatchback on which it's based. We particularly like how the rear door handles are integrated into the pillars, for an almost three-door look from some angles.
Technical details are still scarce as of this writing, though we expect those to be revealed during Honda's press conference on Wednesday. For now, we just know that the HR-V should be an incredibly practical little thing, using the Magic Seat system that has made the Fit such a versatile and capacious subcompact. Stay tuned for more, and see the HR-V from all angles in our live gallery, above.
Honda Civic Si spotted looking sporty but mature
Mon, Jul 18 2016Our spy shooters have captured the next-generation Honda Civic Si Coupe. Judging by these photos, the introduction of the Civic Type R in the United States will allow the Si to carry its performance torch with a more subdued look than its boy-racer sibling. Up front, we see a fascia that's more aggressive than the standard Civic Coupe, with large, angular depressions flanking a central air intake. We're wondering what exactly all that tape is hiding on its face. There's a cooling element behind the lower intake, which is probably an intercooler for the 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Rumors suggest a power output of around 230 horsepower. One unique styling element that's plainly visible on this Si mule is a single large exhaust opening sprouting from under the rear bumper. Its central location is similar to that of the Type R that we've seen in spy shots, but instead of three outlets, there's just one. It's a pretty cool look, and we're excited to hear how it sounds. There's no spoiler on this mule, but we wouldn't be surprised to see an optional unit on the production model. Inside, there's a six-speed manual transmission and red stitching on the seats and steering wheel. Those seats look to have pretty substantial bolsters. There's carbon fiber trim on the dash and alcantara fabric on the doors. We've got 28 images of this Si mule, showing it from just about every angle. Scroll through our high-res gallery above and let us know what you think. The next Civic Si will probably go on sale in 2017, which means it'll make a debut either late this year in LA or early next year in Detroit. Stay tuned. First production HondaJet nearly completed
Tue, 20 May 2014We may mention Honda around here mostly for its cars, but the Japanese industrial giant makes a whole lot more than that. The company builds motorcycles, ATVs, marine engines, power equipment and - soon enough - jet airplanes.
Honda has been working on its first private jet since before 2006, and after a good eight years or so of prototype testing, began building its first production version a bit over a year ago. And now it's almost ready for delivery.
The first production HondaJet is nearing completion and has had its GE Honda HF120 jet engines installed, after which it will conduct initial ground tests before taking its first flight this summer. The jet is painted in a new shade of pearl green with a gold stripe, added to the color catalog alongside the silver, red, yellow and blue options.
