SELLING MY AWESOME CAR SYLVIA!! Sylvia is a 1996 Honda Civic DX with only 86k original miles. She is a super peppy fun to drive 5 speed manual transmission. I love her very much and will be sad to see her go. WHY I AM SELLING HER: I commute two hours a day 3 to 4 days a week and just wanted something newer and more comfortable. The biggest downside to Sylv is that she has NO A/C. It's not broken, she just never had one because she was born in San Francisco where A/C is not needed and it's kind of a necessity in Louisiana! There is "air" that blows but it's not air conditioning. It's better than nothing:) The heat on the other hand works great. I'll go ahead and tell you everything else about her. PROS: She runs perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to drive her across country. I have been driving her to and from work (55 miles each way) several days a week with absolutely no issues.  She has hardly any miles and Civics are known to run forever too. I have had her for about a year and a half. In that time I have put over 10k miles on her and she has never been in the shop once except to get new tires and an alignment--two new back tires (only a few weeks old!) and the front ones are in fine shape too!  She gets amazing gas mileage. It costs $30 to fill the tank and that lasts forever. The back seat folds down and you would not believe how much can fit in there! I've had her oil changed regularly and her Louisiana safety inspection is good through October. She is compact and can easily fit into crazy small parking spaces too:) CONS: No A/C as I mentioned. Also, there is a small dent on a front fender but it's no biggie. Only one of the car speakers works but there is a cord that has come unattached that is probably not a big deal to fix. Someone snapped off her antenna in the the French Quarter but the coat hanger works fine:) There are a couple small spots where the paint has chipped on the hood and some rust has developed so it needs a little touch up there.
I bought Sylvia in New Orleans from a nice guy a year and a half ago. He had driven it from San Fran to use while he went to school at Tulane for a year, but was moving back so didn't need it anymore. It was his uncle's. His uncle had won it in a golf tournament when it was new in 1996 then it stayed in S.F. and was only an occasional driver hence the low miles. The original license plate was "ACE ONE":) She's lucky!! He was all bleary eyed and sad as I drove her away, as I will be when she sells. You will LOVE this car. She is special.

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.

Ariel to revive motorcycle business with debut at Goodwood

Sat, 07 Jun 2014

If you're a parent, the name Ariel might conjure up one of the Disney princesses, but auto enthusiasts know it as a hardcore, boutique British sports car maker. Before being revived to make the skeletal Atom, the business was also a British motorcycle company best known for its four-cylinder bikes. Now, the modern iteration is looking to the past with plans to unveil its own cycle at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed from June 26-29.
Given Ariel's cars, you might expect an absolutely minimalist motorcycle weighing practically nothing. However, according to its boss speaking to Visor Down, there's no point in trying to build another racer; that market is sewn up. Instead, it's developing a performance cruiser with a more tailored design approach. Buyers can select a variety of different components to adapt the cycle to their style. It shouldn't be lacking for too much speed though; power comes from the 1,237cc V4 engine from the Honda VFR1200F with around 170 horsepower on tap, and it also offers the VFR's six-speed, dual-clutch gearbox as an option.
Ariel admitted that bike on display at Goodwood would just be a test mule and didn't say when the production version would be ready. It seems this idea has been a long time coming, though - we reported in 2011 that the company was working on a bespoke motorcycle with multiple design options around a Honda engine. Pricing at the time was rumored to sit around 20,000 pounds.

Honda unveils new 3.5-liter racing engine

Sat, 22 Feb 2014

Honda is following Ford's lead and debuting the second twin-turbocharged V6 to be used by Daytona Prototypes in the United Sports Car Championship. The wait won't be long to see it on track because the new engine will debut with the Starworks Motorsport team in a Riley Gen3 prototype chassis at the 12 Hours of Sebring from March 12-15.
The new HR35TT engine is based on Honda's J35 production V6 found in a variety of its models, including the current Accord. The racing version benefits from dry sump lubrication, but is still similar to the production version with an aluminum block, direct injection and single overhead camshafts. It is fueled by 100-octane E10 fuel, but like many racing engines, exact power figures have not been released.
Starworks has had a close relationship with Honda since it won the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012 with a Honda Performance Development ARX-03b chassis and Honda engine. We can't wait to see this new mill hit the track, and see how it fairs against Chip Ganassi Racing's EcoBoost-powered Riley. Scroll down to read the press release for the full details.
