Is Honda working on airbags for smartphones?

Smartphones are expensive yet delicate - a single impact on a hard surface can shatter their touchscreens, often damaging them beyond repair. Fitting a case offers only so much protection, but what about an airbag? Honda has explored the concept with the airbag-equipped Case N and even made a video about it. But alas, it isn't real.
For some reason, we really want it to be. Honda has a knack for surprising us with nearly unbelievable inventions designed to improve mankind's quality of life, contraptions like the Walking Assist Device and the UNI-CUB personal mobility devices, so the Case N isn't as far-fetched an idea for the company as you might think.

2016 Honda Civic revealed in patent drawings

Thanks to the sleuths at CivicX.com, we've now got our first glimpse at the production 2016 Honda Civic. The forum found these patent drawings from Honda, showing the next-generation Civic in both coupe and sedan body styles, and we're happy to report that the car seen here is very, very close to the concept we saw in New York earlier this month. Shortly after Honda debuted the Civic Coupe concept at the New York Auto Show, we spoke to the car's lead designer, Guy Melville-Brown, about how this bold two-door would transform into a production model. He told us the Civic should be "a halo product for Honda," and that the concept showed "elements of what we can expect from the production car." The showcar is "what a true Honda Civic should be," Melville-Brown said. Now that we see these patent drawings, a lot of that makes sense. Sure, it's all been toned down for production spec (as expected), but a lot of the bolder design cues are still present. We like the angular shape of the headlamps and front fascia, and we're glad the wraparound taillamps were left alone (on the coupe, anyway – the sedan uses a slightly different design). Honda Civic Type R against CBR1000RR in one-lap track battle

Honda is trying hard to claw back the performance-oriented image it gradually lost over the years, one little bit at a time. One of the biggest steps in that rejuvenation yet to reach the public is the latest Civic Type R, but it isn't available in the US – at least not yet. The turbocharged hot hatch is in the UK, though, and to see what it's got Auto Express has a one-lap race ready against a CBR1000RR Fireblade SP sport bike. To help their lap times, professional racers are piloting both the bike and the car. With 306 horsepower on tap, the Type R is certainly no slouch, but it gets an extra advantage here with a 10-second head start off the line at the Rockingham International Circuit for this battle. Will that be enough to erase the power-to-weight advantage of the sportbike? We're not going to spoil it for you.
