THIS IS A RARE FIND! Great diesel family car with a lot of life left. The engine has been well maintained by reputable diesel mechanic. All common 6.5L issues have been addressed, leaving a beast of a car that will outlive us all. No rust issues - wheel wells are clean, around doors, etc. Of course, it's 18 years old and doesn't fit in most garages, so it's been exposed to the elements and it shows: paint is chipping in spots and should eventually be repainted to prevent rust from building up and spreading. Overall, body is straight with no dents or dings.

Upgraded with modern - oversized wheels from a late-model Chevy truck - looks much better than stock I think.

We have owned this for almost 10 years and have treated it with love - and have had it serviced regularly. No known mechanical defects that need to be addressed. I have had some major updates: new AC condenser, fuel pump and fuel filters replaced, transmission repaired, transfer case drained/cleaned and gears replaced, suspension parts replaced (control arms, steering arms, etc.). Too many others to list. Bottom line, it's running smooth without any needed mechanical fixes needed. She's ready to roll as-is. It has served us really well as our annual road trip mobile...super comfortable on the highway, with lots of room for everyone to move around.  Great fuel economy for such a big car. Great hauler: when kids were smaller, we pulled a 20' trailer for our annual beach trip and it never skipped a beat - you forget the trailer is even there.

Clean interior, new leather seat cover was installed on driver's side. I have the new cover for the passenger's side, but haven't had a chance to install. Can do ahead of delivery - or convey to owner (passenger's seat is in OK shape so it's not been a priority for me). The rest of the seats are in great condition - no rips, tears, stains in the leather.

The following is the full list of "issues" I know of:
  • Paint: body is in great shape - no rust issues. However, the paint is oxydized and chipping in areas (see pictures). The worst is on the roof, with some surface rust starting to show. Should at least be sanded down to bare metal and repainted. Would be my top priority if I were to keep the truck
  • ABS Light at instrument panel is lit. Mechanic recommended I leave it be unless I notice any braking issues. Have been driving a year with it on and it's had no braking issues. It holds fluid - no leaks - and stops on a dime as always. So I've just deferred any further maintenance.
  • Car was broken into last year, radio stolen. I replaced with OEM radio and added auxilary wire for iPod. Works and sounds great - and looks great with factory original look. I have not bothered to fix the rear gate and passenger side door handles (they were pried with a screw driver. Only cosmetic issue - doors still lock and work as they should.
  • Driver-side passenger door locks don't work. Needs a new motor...haven't bothered fixing. Lock works fine - just need to do it the old fashioned way: manually.
  • Driver's seat is heated model - bought from eBay seller - but never connected the heater option - so the switch doesn't do anything.
  • Minor cosmetic issues: small crack on dash in front of driver cased by radio thief; glove box has a broken clip (shuts OK, but needs to be held in place when opening or it falls off - easy to fix or replace); center console handle snapped off: opens and closes as normal, but doesn't snap shut - not a functional issue, but if you want it perfect, you'll need to buy a replacement handle - or center console; minor blemishes as would be expected on an 18 year old car, but nothing bad or that can't be improved.
This has been our rock as we raised our kids. Now we have two moving on to college - and are ready to pass this on to someone else who will put it to good use. It's serving as a spare car and driven rarely on weekends. If you know this truck, you know it doesn't like to sit around. So she needs to go to a new home. You are getting a really great truck that won't let you down! Thanks for your interest and good luck. Please don't hesitate to send any questions.

CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR SALE LOCALLY, SO I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY IN THE EVENT OF A LOCAL SALE. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH QUESTIONS OR TO SCHEDULE AN INSPECTION/TEST DRIVE BEFORE YOU BID. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REJECT/CANCEL BIDS IF YOU HAVE NO/LOW RATING (UNLESS YOU CONTACT ME FIRST).

2022 Rivian R1T vs. 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning vs. GMC Hummer EV Pickup | How they compare on paper

Tue, Sep 28 2021

The 2022 Rivian R1T has arrived, ushering in the era of the production electric pickup truck. The Rivian reviews are in, and spoiler alert: They're pretty good. Curious how the new battery-powered truck stacks up to its forthcoming competitors? Well, you've come to the right place. Rivian beat all of Detroit's big automakers to market in the half-ton segment, but probably not by the margin the startup would have liked. Ford's answer is the F-150 Lightning, which is due to enter production early next year, coming hot on the heels of GM's first entry into the space – the GMC Hummer EV pickup – which is scheduled to come off the line late this fall. While all three are pickups, they're aimed at distinctly different buyers, as a perusal of their specifications will reveal. Let's have a look, shall we?   Disclaimer: Before we dive in on this one, we'd like to note that while we've made our best effort to verify the specs provided, the Rivian is brand-new and the others are still in the prototype phase. Some of these figures may be inaccurate or may simply change before production. This is all hypothetical until you can actually cross-shop them anyway, right? Cool. End disclaimer. Let's start with the powertrains. They're all battery-electric trucks engineered on a modular rear-wheel-drive configuration engineered to accommodate (theoretically, anyway) up to four electric drive units. Rivian actually makes the most use of this with a quad-motor setup producing 835 horsepower and 908 pound-feet of torque with its high-output initial model. GMC's three-motor Hummer has the R1T beat with its estimated 1,000-horsepower output, while Ford's (also three-motor) comes in with a far more modest 563 horses. This is an excellent illustration of our above point that these are not all engineered for the same crowd. Ford's F-150, which comes in at a lower price point, is meant to be far more mainstream, as its power output suggests.  This theme continues when we look at the dimensions. Despite the image "Hummer" may conjure, GMC's entry actually needs the shallowest parking space. The Rivian is right behind it, with the work-truck-spec Ford extending more than a foot longer than either. What the Hummer lacks in length, it makes up for in girth. It's the widest by a good 5 inches. The Rivian is only slightly pudgier than the F-150, but it's much closer at that end of the scale.

GMC Hummer EV could have had the Chevrolet Avalanche's Midgate

Tue, Nov 3 2020

One of the many rumors swirling around the GMC Hummer EV claimed the truck would resurrect the Midgate inaugurated by the original Chevrolet Avalanche. Although we now know there's no way to fully knock down the partition between the cab and the cargo box, the firm revealed the rumor wasn't entirely false. "There was [a Midgate] early on. We opted for the functionality of the drop glass in the back. With the package layout and things like that, it was not advantageous to pursue that one. And, the five-foot bed was kind of the industry standard in regards to price of entry in that segment," explained John Mack, the Hummer's exterior design management, during an interview with Muscle Car & Trucks. The Hummer will go on sale with a five-foot box, and it doesn't sound like a longer bed will be available, so a modern version of the Midgate would have made the model more versatile by giving users the ability to fold down the partition behind the rear seats to carry bulky items, like plywood and ATVs. It's a feature that would have inevitably made the truck more complicated to build, however, because it adds moving parts that need to be sealed. Hinges, seals, and latches in turn add weight, and complexity almost always invites high manufacturing costs. As an electric pickup built with newly-developed components, the Hummer already has enough of each. Motorists who need to carry something that's significantly longer than the cargo box aren't entirely out of luck. As Mack pointed out, the rear window drops into the partition, so owners will have the ability to haul surfboards, lumber, or anything else that's relatively long and reasonably thin by simply pushing a switch. Alternatively, the only thing limiting cargo space when the roof comes off is the sky — or, depending on where you live, bridges. Mack didn't reveal when the Midgate was dropped. GMC launched the Hummer project in April 2019, and it previously released early design sketches that show how the truck transitioned from a sketch to a prototype. As of writing, nothing suggests the Midgate will make a comeback in the near future on any member of the General Motors portfolio. It was introduced in 2001 on the first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche, which went on sale in the United States for the 2002 model year. It later spread to Cadillac's luxed-up variant of the truck, the Escalade EXT, and to the short-lived GMC Envoy XUV.

Next-generation Chevrolet Colorado breaks cover in new spy photos

Tue, May 25 2021

The next-generation Chevrolet Colorado broke cover in this fresh set of spy photos this week, giving us a glimpse of what to expect when GM's compact trucks are replaced in what is expected to be either 2023 or 2024.  Thanks to its still-extensive camouflage, this prototype doesn't give away a ton about the new Colorado's styling, but in profile, it appears as though the swoopy, upswept rear cab line might become a thing of the past. We wouldn't be surprised to see the new Colorado adopt a more angular, squared-off look more akin to that of its big brother, the half-ton Silverado. The Silverado is also expected to donate what may be the new Colorado's only powertrain. Taking a cue from Ford, Chevy is expected to offer the next-gen Colorado with just a turbocharged four-cylinder engine — the new corporate 2.7T in this instance. The large, 310-horsepower four-pot can easily take over for the 3.6L V6 currently available in the GM twins and one-up the 270-hp Ranger to boot. This would mark the end of both a V6 and diesel option being offered in GM's midsize trucks, and tracks with the company's slow, silent effort to eliminate lower-margin models. We say "trucks" because, well, whatever happens with Chevy is likely to translate to GMC. The Canyon will be due for replacement at the same time, and will likely carry on as a re-skin of Chevy's offering. We're not yet certain exactly when Chevrolet will start selling the next-gen Colorado, but given the reasonably complete state of this prototype, we expect it won't be long now. Rumors suggest it could hit the market in 2023 as a 2024 model.  Related Video: The Best Midsize Pickup: Ranger vs Gladiator vs Tacoma vs Colorado
