GMC Hummer EV infotainment built with Unreal Engine used by 'Fortnite' and 'Rocket League'

We're only a couple weeks away from the reveal of the GMC Hummer EV truck and SUV. And we're expecting a lot of boasting about impressive capability and unique features. What we weren't expecting was for its infotainment system to be built on a video game engine. That's the news that has come out of Epic Games, creators of Unreal Engine, the basis of the Hummer's infotainment system. If you've been an avid video gamer anytime in the last 20 years, Unreal Engine should be recognizable. The first version of it powered Epic's "Unreal" and "Unreal Tournament" games, and more recent versions power multiplayer hits such as Epic's "Fortnite" and Psyonix's "Rocket League." The engine has been licensed out to countless other game developers for titles by both indie developers and large game companies. But its use in the GMC Hummer will be the first time it has powered a production car's infotainment system. This content is hosted by a third party. Presumably it's a version of Unreal Engine 4, since Unreal Engine 5 hasn't been released yet. Also, while Epic released a trailer announcing the partnership and showcasing Unreal's 3D rendering and menu developing tools, it doesn't give us a peak at what the infotainment and instruments of the Hummer will look like. The company does tout fast boot-up times, powerful graphics, and over-the-air updates as useful features included with Unreal. GM recalling 316k vehicles due to headlamp faults

General Motors has announced a recall covering 316,357 vehicles globally, due to the possibility of sporadic or permanent failure of the low-beam headlamps. 273,182 of these vehicles are in the United States, while the remaining affected units are in Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere. This recall includes the 2006-09 Buick LaCrosse (pictured above), 2006-07 Chevy TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT, 2006-07 GMC Envoy and 2006 GMC Envoy XL, 2006-07 Buick Rainier, 2006-08 Saab 9-7X, and 2006-08 Isuzu Ascender. In an email sent to Autoblog, General Motors explains that if the headlamp driver modules are not functioning correctly, "the low-beam headlamps and daytime running lamps could intermittently or permanently fail to illuminate." GM states that this problem does not affect things like high-beams, turn signals, marker lamps, or foglamps. As of this writing, GM states it "has not been able to confirm whether the HDMs in these vehicles caused any vehicle accidents." The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been notified, but the recall has not yet posted to the government agency's website. Scroll down to read the full details in GM's email. 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate comes with more style, most everything else

First introduced on the Sierra line, the even more luxurious Denali Ultimate trim is coming to the 2023 GMC Yukon. It includes nearly every available feature for the regular Denali as standard, plus some unique design features. The Denali Ultimate is distinguished by its dark chrome grille and badging, features that cannot be added to any other Yukon model. It also gets the largest wheels yet for the Yukon: 22-inchers with painted, machined and polished sections. The interior is more impressive. Most of the surfaces are covered in leather, real wood and aluminum trim. The seat backs and the wood trim have topographical maps of Mount Denali. As for features, the Denali Ultimate comes with basically everything that's standard as well as what's usually optional on the regular Denali including magnetic shocks, huge screens, an 18-speaker sound system and massaging seats, among others. So this is one of the rare times where it actually is easier to list what's either an additional feature or just a preference. Naturally you get a choice of colors, and the trim level can be added to either the shorter Yukon or the longer Yukon XL. The standard engine is the gas-powered 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel straight-six is an option with 277 horsepower and the same amount of torque. Both are coupled to a 10-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. Super Cruise with towing and automatic lane change capabilities is another option, a rear-seat entertainment system and a towing package. And that's it. Pricing hasn't been announced, but it's pretty clear this will be the most expensive Yukon trim. The final numbers will be coming this June. Deliveries begin this fall.
