1976 Gmc 3/4 Ton Royal Sierra Camper Special Real Survivor!!!! on 2040-cars

1976 GMC 3/4 Ton Royal Sierra Camper Special. I purchased this truck from the original owner 8 years ago. It has been garaged kept since I have had it and from the looks of it, most of its life prior. It is in very nice original condition. I replaced the hood when I got it with a used one and also replaced the hinges with factory GM hinges. The hood is Dupont Base Clear and an excellent finish inside and out. I had the transmission rebuilt by Deltrans in northern Delaware and it is awesome! We pulled the engine right away and replaced the timing chain, put a small RV cam in it, New push rods, roller tip rockers, oil pump and completely resealed it. I had the carburetor professionally done and it works great (choke is wired open and inop). It has Heartthrob 2 1/4 mandrel bent duel exhaust with turbo mufflers and it sound great. I replaced the power steering pump and both lines, fuel pump, water pump and put a Edelbrock performer intake on it. This truck runs fantastic. uses no oil and had great power. We put a factory posi (gov-lock) unit in the rear (from Gevo's Gears). I put 2 new E-Load-Rated tires on it when I got it and the rear tires are at least 80%. Has new front calipers, rotors, pads and brake lines on it. I replaced the rear springs with 8 leaf units as it had 10 leaf units on it which were very harsh. New shocks out back too. The bed has a wooden platform in it which I have never removed. The bed floor and tail gate I don't believe have ever seen water and are extremely nice and clean. The body: New hood and hinges. Rockers appear 100% solid. Windshield is perfect. The bottom of the front fenders have small holes and have been touched up prior to my owning it. The only other rust is behind the left rear tire and is smaller then a pencil eraser. The previous owner loved undercoat. Under the hood has plenty. Both inner fenders are rusty (visible in one of the pictures) and the left front inner fender has been patched for some reason. The radiator support is 100% solid as is the battery tray. The grill is perfect save for some paint loss, I do have a spare grill to go with the truck of the same year and earlier years if desired. The doors are 100% solid. The right door has a stress fracture at the top hinge requiring a little more effort to get closed but functions properly otherwise. All 4 wheels have been bead blasted and repainted in Imron 817 white. I put the camper mirrors on it and have the original ones which will go with the truck. The previous owner had apparently experimented with other mirrors evidenced by the screws in the doors at non-factory locations. Both front and rear bumpers are mildly bent but nice other wise. I have a new aftermarket chrome front bumper that can be purchased by the winner for what I paid if desired. Duel Tank Fuel system: I replaced the fuel sender in the driver side fuel tank and all the fuel hoses bypassing the "broken" selector valve. I have a new NOS GM selector valve and also a new fuel sender for the right tank. These go with the truck. Easy fix if you want to use both tanks, if not leave it like it is. Interior: the seat looks perfect but is showing its wear. It is splitting at the seams and has been stitch a little on the drivers side before I got it. An upholstery shop can save it as it is quite unique and original. The dash has one crack in it in the speaker area but is near perfect otherwise. The 70's carpet if really nice too! It has a tilt column in it which is tight as the day it was new and the column shifter feels like the day it was new also. The steering wheel has the grain still on it with almost no wear. The A/C works when charged but doesn't stay charged more than a day or so. Believe the compressor is leaking. The radio is not original but looks very similar and works. Towing: it has a class III hitch on it, a 7 pin round connector and a very nice brake controller. This truck tows like a dream when set up properly. This is a very nice survivor which has been mechanically updated professionally and properly. I would not hesitate to drive it to California. I do not need to sell it and would love to keep it, but am running out of garage room. Please ask questions before bidding. Additionally, I ask that you call me for other details or clarifications as well please don't call and waste your/my time if you cannot afford the truck or do not intend on buying it. I am setting the reserve at $5000, I paid 2500 for it 8 years ago and have done much to update and preserve this truck. I have never seen another one like it. Shipping: I will aid in having it loaded and handed off to a carrier, arranging shipping is up to you and they will need to communicate with me. You can drive it home with no issues!!!! Payment: I am requiring a NON-REFUNDABLE $500 PayPal deposit within 24 hours after the auction ends so make arrangements! The buyer will have 5 days to make the balance of payment unless we agree on different terms. The title is in my name and is clean/clear. I will FedEx it overnight once payment is made at the cost of the buyer. Please call me with questions and/or to arrange payment/pick-up Etc. If you have bad feedback or less then 50, call before you bid. I only speak English. This vehicle is located in Chestertown Maryland. Justin 443-480-2779 On Jun-30-14 at 03:01:29 PDT, seller added the following information: The drive shaft was professionally rebuilt with a new carrier bearing, all U-joints and balanced by Maryland Truck several years ago. On Jun-30-14 at 15:31:31 PDT, seller added the following information: The truck is a Long Bed (8 foot) which I thought was evident by the pictures. All 3/4 ton trucks were long beds unless you ordered a cab & chassis and built what you wanted. I have had 2 questions about the price. Here is the deal: this is an AUCTION and I am not ending the auction early. The reserve is $5000 which is stated in the description above. If you are the high bidder over $5000 then you are legally obligated to pay for it. It's just that simple. Again, under 50 feedback, please contact me if you intend to buy it. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION. Happy Bidding, someone is going to get a very nice survivor!!!!! On Jun-30-14 at 17:35:49 PDT, seller added the following information: I also have a factory Tach Dash for this truck with a new tach lead wire that will be available to the buyer if they are interested in purchasing it and it will not be expensive. |

What the electric Hummer's size and weight means for its efficiency
Sat, Dec 3 2022The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1. Tim Levin/Insider If you think driving a pint-sized Nissan Leaf is as good for the planet as driving a huge electric Hummer, think again. The GMC Hummer EV uses significantly more electricity than other EVs, meaning it produces more pollution upstream. The electric Hummer weighs 9,000 pounds and its battery weighs as much as a Honda Civic. The new electric Hummer rolls through town without a deafening engine rumble or a cloud of toxic fumes, but it doesn't exactly tread lightly. The colossal truck weighs an astonishing 9,000 pounds. (Think two Toyota Tacomas, three Honda Civics, or 24 Shaquille O'Neals.) Moreover, the GMC Hummer EV is in many ways a supersized gas guzzler for a new era. It repackages many of the same flaws of hulking SUVs and trucks of years past — and proves not all zero-emission cars are created equal. EVs can be energy guzzlers too On the whole, electric cars use less energy than gas-powered ones. But they aren't all equally efficient. No surprise here: The Hummer needs more electricity than any other EV on the market to move its elephantine frame. The Environmental Protection Agency rates the pickup at 47 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline-equivalent). For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 sedan is nearly three times as efficient, earning a rating of 132 MPGe. The Ford F-150 Lightning, another electric truck, gets 70 MPGe. This has real consequences: Since the US gets 61% of its energy from oil, coal, and natural gas, the more electricity a car needs, the more pollution it creates upstream. As the Union of Concerned Scientists put it: "Both EV cars and trucks are much cleaner than their gasoline counterparts, but electric trucks are responsible for more global warming emissions than electric cars simply because trucks are larger and heavier." The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1. Tim Levin/Insider The Hummer EV is also resource-intensive to manufacture, requiring a ginormous (and weighty) battery to give people the 300-plus miles of range they desire. You could produce three Chevrolet Bolts with the same battery cells consumed by one Hummer.
Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015
Tue, Feb 11 2014Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
Average transaction prices climb to a record $36,270 in January
Sat, Feb 3 2018The automotive sector made a hash of the numbers last month, a mess of pluses and minuses clogging the transaction-price charts according to Kelley Blue Book. The overall industry rose one percent, even though buyers bought fewer cars and light vehicles in January 2018 vs 2017 using the selling-day adjusted rate. Due to January transaction prices rising to $36,270, a record for January, the value of new vehicles sold climbed more than $1 billion compared to January 2017. KBB's transaction prices don't include customer incentives, which changes the complexion slightly; average incentive spending rose to just over ten percent. The average transaction price in December 2017 was $36,756, so January dropped a bit - nothing unexpected, with the month annually blamed for "January doldrums." More revealing is the fact that the average transaction price in January 2017 was $34,910. This year's plumped-up figure came courtesy of the continued shift to crossovers, SUVs, and light trucks, which shouldn't surprise anyone who's read an automotive blog in the past 20 years. That category comprised nearly 70 percent of new vehicle sales for the month. Some manufacturers profited more than others, though. Fiat Chrysler managed 12.8 percent fewer sales in January compared year-on-year, but the company's vehicles sold for $1,300 more. The Ford brand suffered a 6.3-percent dip in sales, but brand transaction prices increased $2,000, while a Lincoln sold for $8,700 more on average. General Motors sold more cars and sold them for more money; overall GM transaction prices rose four percent, or $1,270, while a GMC traded hands for seven-percent more than in January 2017 and a Cadillac got $2,300 more on average. Of KBB's listed automakers, the Volkswagen Group got the most of out its customers, transaction prices rising at the German automaker by 5.6 percent to $42,243 in January 2018 compared to a year earlier. American Honda followed with a 4.3-percent increase to $28,991, GM in third at 4.1 percent to $40,313. Find your next car at Autoblog using our new and used car listings or the Car Finder tool. Broken out by segment, minivans rocked the table, transaction prices leaping by 7.9 percent to $35,380 compared to January a year earlier. Luxury cars boasted the next-highest rise, at 3.6 percent to $58,533.
