2004 GMC 2500HD SLE 4x4 6.6 Duramax with 123,000 actual miles. This a  4 door cab.  Allison 5 speed automatic transmission. All service records since new are available. Not to often these days do you find a 10 year old low mileage Duramax pickup that really "needs nothing" and not neglected or abused. This Duramax is a two owner truck from new and currently owned by a retiree who used it to pull his fifth wheel RV primarily and trips to town as well as pull fishing boat. Current owner has owned it 4 years. The original first owner was a gentleman in his late 50's that also used it as transportation to and from work but also pulled a fifth wheel RV as well.  All regular servicing of fluid changes as recommended by GM. Fuel additive has been used to treat and keep injectors clean and in good operation. Synthetic oil since new. Does not use oil.

The Allison automatic transmission fluid and filter was changed about 5000 miles ago. Has the Prodigy trailer brake controller with B &W gooseneck turn over ball and 7 way trailering plug inside bed. Drop-in bedliner. Tires are Michelin E rated 285/16 tires with approx. 50% tread.  Brakes are in good condition. Cold air conditioning. Power extending trailering mirrors. Tilt, cruise, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, factory alarm.  All gauges work as should. No cracks in glass. Alternator was replaced 15,000 miles back. Both batteries replaced within last year. No oil leaks or fluid leaks. No vibrations in truck. Engine performs very well. Transmission shifts nicely.  All electrical items on truck work as they should except for CD player. Garaged by both owners. Fly in a drive home in confidence. The 4x4 system works very good. Interior is very clean and is a non-smoker truck. Drivers seat back rest has a small worn spot that is not very large nor is it very noticeable. Reason for selling is I purchased a new 2014 diesel truck. Body is free of any damage, but there are a few rock chips and minor nicks as any 10 year old truck would have but less than most. Never used in construction, farming or oilfield. Has had an easy life. Simply put it is a very good, reliable, well cared for and serviced truck that has low miles and will give next owner many miles of good service. Has 3.73 rear end gear ratio.

Should heavy-duty pickup trucks have window stickers with fuel mileage estimates?

Sat, Sep 23 2017

If you were to stroll into your nearest Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, or Ram dealership, you'd find a bunch of pickup trucks. Most of those would have proper window stickers labeled with things like base prices, options prices, location of manufacture, and, crucially, fuel economy estimates. But you'd also run across a number of heavy-duty trucks with no such fuel mileage data from the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA doesn't require automakers to publish the valuable miles-per-gallon measurement for vehicles with gross weight ratings that exceed 8,500 pounds. That makes it difficult for consumers to compare behemoths powered by turbocharged diesel engines – between one another, and between smaller, gasoline-fueled trucks. Consumer Reports doesn't think it should be this way, and it's spearheading an effort (PDF link) to get the government to require manufacturers to publish fuel economy estimates. In its own testing, CR found that heavy-duty pickups powered by Ford's Power Stroke, GM's Duramax, and FCA's Cummins diesel engines (which doesn't include the Ram's EcoDiesel) get worse fuel mileage than their lighter-duty gas-powered siblings. We're not so sure HD-truck buyers are unaware of this fact – big diesels don't really come into their own until big loads are placed in their beds or attached to their trailer hitches. Under heavy workloads, the diesel trucks will almost certainly return greater efficiency than a similar gas-powered truck. What's more, HD trucks with lumbering diesels in general make the driver feel more confident while towing due to greater torque at low engine RPM than gas trucks. They also offer greater max-weight limits. Still, we agree EPA fuel mileage estimates should be offered for heavy-duty pickups. And we think the comparisons provided by Consumer Reports might be interesting to potential buyers. Click here to see the results of CR's tests, and let us know what you think using the poll below. GM drops diesel engines for 2020 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers

Fri, Jul 12 2019

GM is officially discontinuing the diesel engine in the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain for the 2020 model year. The 1.6-liter turbodiesel was always an oddball of an engine in the compact crossover segment, and now the experiment has come to an end. The Car Connection initially reported the news, and a GMC spokesperson, Stuart Fowle, confirmed it to us this morning.  “A huge majority of our Terrain customers have opted for one of our two gas engines," says Fowle. We canÂ’t say this eventuality comes as a massive surprise, as we saw news from couple of months ago that GM was dropping all-wheel drive from the diesel-powered cars for 2020. Low demand was cited as the reason for that cull, and itÂ’s the same for the little GM crossovers this time around, too. These vehicles were the only ones powered with a diesel engine in their class, but thatÂ’s going to be changing. Just as GM is going away from the diesel, Mazda is finally bringing its diesel to market in the CX-5. YouÂ’ll only be able to get that engine in the most expensive ($42,045) trim level, combined with all-wheel drive, though. The cheapest Equinox diesel starts at a comparably low $30,795. ThatÂ’s a $2,400 upcharge over the base 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder, and the value is questionable. Mileage is better, but diesel fuel is more expensive. Towing capability didnÂ’t increase over the base engineÂ’s 1,500-pound capacity, but the extra torque around town was nice. As diesels go in the U.S., this one was rather rough and noisy, possibly contributing to some turning their noses up after a test drive. Perhaps another reason for its demise was that the much quicker 2.0-liter turbo Equinox was only $100 more than the diesel. This engine offered significantly better towing at 3,500 pounds, too. You can read all about what we thought of the diesel in our first drive review here, but the 2019 model year is the last one if you had it on your shortlist. GM 6.2L EcoTec V8 rated at 21 mpg by the EPA

Wed, 02 Oct 2013

General Motors is already laying claim to best-in-class power for its new 6.2-liter V8 that will be offered in the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra this fall, and now it has released fuel economy numbers for the big engine. Available as an option on the Silverado LTZ and High Country (shown above) models as well as the the Sierra SLT and Denali trims, the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 will return 15 miles per gallon in the city and 21 mpg on the highway on rear-wheel-drive trucks; these numbers drop by one mpg each on four-wheel-drive models.
These estimates are in addition to the engine's 420 horsepower, 460 pound-feet of torque and max trailering capacity of 12,000 pounds, and considering all that power it's not terribly far away from the fuel economy of GM's equally new 4.3-liter V6 and its rating of 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. This announcement comes just days after a report indicated that GM is unable to keep up with the demand of the 5.3-liter V8 in the fullsize Chevy and GMC trucks due to supplier issues. GM's official press release for the 6.2-liter V8's fuel economy is posted below.
