Up for auction is a 1986 GMC shortbed 4WD.  I will try to describe it as accuraely as possible.  Body:  My rating for the body would be fairly solid.  If you are planning on painting the truck I would put on front fenders, outer rockers, and either patch panels or complete bed sides.  They are available in my area for about 300.00 each.  The rust in the rockers and cab corners has only infected the outer portion.  I drove this truck through the winter.  I have photographed all the bad areas of the truck.

Interior:  The interior looks to be fairly original.  The cab interior is midnight blue.  The seat needs covered, and it needs a new mat or carpeting.  The door panels are nice enough to be re-dyed.  The temp. gauge in the dash does not work, and the speedometer cable is broken.  Both easy fixes, I am just short on time.  Kenwood  detatchable plate CD player in dash, works fine.  The dash has one of the black covers on it, I am sure the original dash underneath is cracked and broken.

Glass:  All glass intact and in good working order.  No breaks or cracks.  Typical scratches from use, and rolling windows up and down.  Rear slider works find.

Drivetrain:  I consider this the strong point of the truck.  The fresh 4 bolt 350 has under 5000 miles on it.  I estimate this because the oil hasn't got dirty yet.  It has a steel crank, flat top pistons and a mild cam, head, and intake combo for pulling and torque.  K&N air filter, and chrome valve covers.  Quadrajet carb.  Reliable, and starts great even in cold weather.  No pumping and pumping to start.  It's right.  It is backed by a turbo 350 that has no issues, with a new process transfer case.  If you notice from the pictures the truck has the more desirable truck 12 bolt in the rear.  No issues with the drivetrain and everything works as it should.

Wheels-tires-lift:  These items are under two years old.  Four inch suspension lift with polyurethane bushings, new springs, shocks.  Tires are about 60% and are 35x12.50x15.  The wheels are ten inches wide, and have no curbing, marks or even wheel weight marring.  They could use some hand polishing from where I drove the truck through the winter. They are very nice.

Exhaust:  Truck has headers that leak a little at the collectors.  (imagine that)  The rest of the exhause is pre bent ordered flowmaster 31/2 inch.  Sounds great.

This is a pretty nice truck for the year in my area.  Even though it needs some paint and body work, it still turns a few heads on the way to Lowe's.  My reason for selling is too many projects to fund, and not a lot of time.  Please feel free to ask questions or call at 304.578.1107.  Thanks for looking.

2021 GMC Canyon AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition is ready to hit the trail

Tue, Nov 17 2020

GMC introduced a more capable Canyon AT4 named Off-Road Performance Edition that gains modifications like skid plates and a beefier suspension. It can venture further off the beaten path, but it won't get there faster. Based on the AT4, which is already better suited to venturing into the woods than the standard Canyon, the Off-Road Performance Edition gains a taller suspension and loses its sizeable front air dam to offer a 30-degree approach angle. GMC knows adventurers will be tempted to put that figure to the test, so it also added skid plates made with 5/32-inch aluminum to protect the radiator, the front differential, the steering gear, and the oil pan. Full-length rock rails on both sides shield the rocker panels from expensive encounters with boulders and other obstacles. Finally, the Off-Road Performance Edition stands out from the AT4 with specific 17-inch wheels painted in gloss black, black AT4 logos, and black exhaust tips. 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires come standard. Changes in the cabin are limited to floor liners. Out back, the cargo box receives a spray-in liner. Don't look for Ram 1500 TRX-like performance, because it doesn't sound like GMC made any major mechanical modifications to the Off-Road Performance Edition. Power comes from a 3.6-liter V6 that sends 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque to the four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and an automatic locking rear differential provided by Eaton. AT4 buyers can order a 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and a stout 369 pound-feet of torque on tap for an additional $4,375, but there's no word yet on whether this fuel-saving engine will be available on the Off-Road Performance Edition, too. GMC's 2021 Canyon AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition will go on sale later in 2020, though pricing information hasn't been announced yet. For context, the standard AT4 costs $39,395 in its most affordable configuration.

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
