GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups
Mon, 14 Oct 2013General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.
Mystery man buys fast food worker a new car
Tue, Apr 28 2015A mystery man bought a Tennessee fast food worker a new car. 34-year-old Jeff Smith told WKRN he was approached by an older stranger as he was exiting a grocery store. The two struck up a conversation about Smith's 1991 Geo Storm. The vehicle is falling apart; it has more than 350,000 miles on it, a cracked dashboard, no drivers side window, and a door that is literally being held closed by a small hook. The stranger asked Smith to follow him down the road to James Motors, but then asked the fast food worker to wait outside. Smith told WKRN, "He comes back out and says, 'How do you like that blue pickup?' I said. 'It looks great.' Then he said, 'Well, I bought it and it's yours now.' [...] It's just a blessing. It's the best thing that has ever happened to me." At first, Smith didn't believe this was even real. But the owner of James Motors showed up at the fast food restaurant where he works with the keys and title to the 2001 navy blue GMC Sonoma. GMC recalls 740,000 Terrains to address headlight issue
Tue, Mar 22 2022GM is recalling 740,581 of its 2010-2017 GMC Terrains to address an issue with their headlight lenses that allow intense beams of light to escape at certain angles. GM had petitioned the government for an exemption because the errant photons aren't being cast directly at oncoming drivers, but after a review, NHTSA denied the request, leaving the ball in GM's court. After taking time to "review NHTSA's decision and explore potential next steps," GM relented and announced a recall campaign. The Terrain's headlight design allows a narrow sliver of low-beam light to reflect off the inner surface of the high beam reflector, GM's defect report says. The reflections depart the lens at angles that don't make them directly hazardous to oncoming drivers, which is why GM petitioned for an exemption. However GM says the bright spots can cause glare or just be inherently distracting, either of which can cause problems on the road. Per NHTSA, these slivers are four times brighter than allowed for low-beam headlights. If you own a last-generation GMC Terrain, expect to start receiving notices about this recall in mid- to late April, however the company has not yet said exactly how the problem will be remedied.
