Ford Thunderbird 1959 430 Coupe on 2040-cars
Eden, Utah, United States
1959 Ford Thunderbird 430 Coupe. This is a very clean, almost rust free, 430 Coupe. I have a clear, original, Utah Title, in my name. This Thunderbird was purchased by the previous owner for restoration. His plans changed and he decided to sell the car. The 430 Thunderbird Coupe is a relatively rare Thunderbird. Only around 1500 1959 Thunderbirds came from the factory with the 430 Lincoln Engine. Ford got into NASCAR during this time period, and used the 430 Thunderbird as Ford first stock car racer. In 1959, when Motor Trend Magazine picked their first "Car of the Year," the 1959 Ford Thinderbird 430 was selected. It is the very first Motor Trend Car of the Year. All "Squarebirds" have become very popular, but the 430 cars are growing in value. This car is clearly identified as a "J" car on the VIN and Title. It is not a clone. Please look closely at all of the photos. The floors are dry and rust free, the trunk is in excellent condition, and the doors, hood, and truck align properly. All the glass is good. The interior is in very good condition. The passenger's side door panel is in the trunk. The reserve on the car is very low.
I want to be sure the new owner knows exactly what they are getting. With this in mind, I will list the negative aspects of the car in detail. 1. The 430 Engine and C6 transmission come with the car, but are currently not in the car. (I don't think the 430 engine is the car's original motor, but there is no way to tell. The title and VIN numbers show that the car is a factory original 430 car.) 2. There are some minor missing trim pieces. These parts are readily available in several aftermarket catalogs. 3. The headliner has seam splits. 4. On the passenger's side front, lower, fender there is some rust showing. it is not serious, but it will need to be addressed. A $500. PayPal deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction closing, unless other arrangements have been made. If you have less than 5 positive feedbacks in your Ebay feedback score, please, email/message or give me a call. I want this to be a good, straightforward, auction. No scams, etc. My phone number is (801) 745-5835. Please look at my Ebay feedback. I highly value my 100% positive feedback from almost 700 different people. I'm not a dealer. I just love old cars and this Thunderbird is one too many. |

2016 Ford Explorer configurator reveals $30,700* base price, Platinum starts at $52,600*
Wed, Nov 26 2014The a la carte menu for the 2016 Ford Explorer is ready for your... umm... exploring. The first page of the refreshed model's configurator reveals the lineup, including the new Platinum trim, and price increases for three of the carryover models. The base Explorer doesn't change by one red cent: it can still be had for $30,700. The XLT needs $33,400 (a $400 price bump), the Limited goes for $41,300 (a not insignificant $2,900 price increase), and the Sport requires $43,300 (a $200 increase). That new Platinum model goes where no Explorer MSRP has gone before, beginning at $52,600 (*all prices are subject to an $895 destination charge). However, since Ford has put almost everything in it, you can't jack the price up too much further unless you lose your mind in the accessories catalog. You can quickly head that way lower down the order, though. The Limited's price jump appears to be due to the voice-activated navigation system, which comes standard; it was formerly part of a $2,600 option package. The Limited goes up by just $995 when specced with the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost, which raises the power over the 2.0-liter EcoBoost it replaces to 270 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, but doesn't incur any fuel economy penalty. All-wheel drive tacks on another $2,000, safety features like active park assist and lane departure warning come as part of $3,000 Equipment Group A, and you'll still have another three pages of options to get through. On the other hand, if you just want to get your family bundle into an Explorer without spending a bundle, the base model doesn't offer any packages and only has one option over $200. Let the research begin.
Motorweek goes retro with '80s hot hatch shootout
Mon, 03 Nov 2014Motorweek's decades of history on television make it the perfect medium to look back into the automotive past and see how things are different now. It recently added old road test videos to its YouTube channel of the Acura NSX and Toyota Supra, as well as the Ferrari F40. For one of its newest flashback clips, Motorweek has exhumed an affordable five-car challenge of 1986's premiere hot hatches.
By today's standards, this is an eclectic field that features fondly remembered classics like the Volkswagen GTI 16-valve and Acura Integra. However, it also throws in some nearly forgotten contenders like the Dodge Colt Turbo and Ford Escort GT. The angular Toyota Corolla FX16 GT-S rounds out the group.
It's fascinating to watch Motorweek run the quintet through the slalom, down the drag strip and on various roads. What's most striking in this clip is the difference in the definition of a performance car between then and now. With its 16-valve, 1.8-liter four-cylinder, the GTI is the burliest of the contenders with 123 horsepower, but it still takes 8.8 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. By today's standards, that would make it a plain-jane economy car, and not even a particularly quick one.
Need for Speed movie casts Mustang in hero car role
Mon, 10 Jun 2013Dreamworks Studios, Electronic Arts and Ford Motor Company announced today that the Ford Mustang will play the lead hero car role in the upcoming Need for Speed movie, slated to hit theaters next February. Of course, the Mustang didn't audition for the role like we imagine the film's star, Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame, might have. Rather, Ford and Dreamworks struck a partnership deal that meant the Mustang could skip the casting couch. The deal will also see the film's universe populated with other Ford products (gratuitously so, we're guessing), and the automaker will also help the studio promote the video-game-turned-movie next year.
The hero car in question is a special one-off Mustang created by Ford that is making its debut at the E3 video game trade show as we speak. Powered by a supercharged V8 and apparently based on the Shelby GT500, the car's been modified with a widebody kit, 22-inch wheels, larger air intakes and twin hood nostrils. Ford also provided the film's production with an F-450 truck that will be called "The Beast" in the film's story, and a second Mustang to be used during filming as a camera car.
The Mustang's movie career is really taking off, with news of its Need For Speed casting closely following last week's release of the trailer for Getaway, a movie coming out in August that stars Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez and another Shelby GT500. In addition to Aaron Paul and a modified Mustang, the Need For Speed movie also stars Michael Keaton (cop, we're guessing) and Dominic Cooper (villain, we're guessing), and is directed by Scott Waugh, who directed the Navy SEAL film Act of Valor in 2012.
