This may be really good news for someone.  It wasn't so good for me.

True story.  I was touring around this weekend as i really had not had the car out at all this year and wanted to make sure all was to be expected, well it turns out it wasn't.  The car ran fine, i actually had a good time driving it around.  However, after i moved it back in the garage i noticed some transmission fluid had been leaking.   I brought the car in to my mechanic Monday. While we had it on the lift we determined it seemed to be coming from the seal in the shifter.  I took it over to the a highly reputable transmission repair shop in our area.  Although it was the transmission, I was hoping it would not be any real problems.  Well they checked it out today and informed me the transmission should be rebuilt.  They quoted me a cost for them to rebuild it, using all Ford OEM parts, of 2500 plus tax.  This really isn't work i want to take on and instead would rather pass along a potential great deal to someone else.  Therefore, after much interest in the car, i am dropping the BIN price by 5,000, that's twice the cost of repair!!.  So if you were interested, perhaps this a great opportunity for you.  I am happy to organize the shop work to be done for you and you could pay them direct.  Or you could buy it as is and arrange your own repair or do the work yourself.  Anyway, not  a real good day for me.  It was likely this would need to be done at some point in this car's future so for some future owner it's better it happened now.  Thanks for your interest please feel free to ask any additional questions.

This Thunderbird is really an awesome car from a fantastic period of American autos.  Best of all, this is a driver that you will be proud to be seen cruising around.  And you will be seen. No matter where you live this will be a one of kind attention getter.  Be prepared for compliments.

This gorgeous convertible t-bird is in really good condition, but it is not a showroom vehicle, but it's also a third the price and ready to roll.  Everything is original and if desired, would make a great car to fully restore to showroom, but really, the true value of this car is it one you can get out on the road and enjoy.

The white on red interior was highly desired and in short supply.  There are not many with this beautiful combination.  The majority of these were delivered with black interior and when your cruising, top down, in the sun, black is not what you want.  You absolutely want the white interior.  The upholstery is in just good condition.  It is bright and clean but It shows wear.  The driver seat has a 6 inch split in the seat and a smaller one on the side.  The red carpet is in good shape but there is a small wear spot on the passenger floor about the 3 inches in diameter.  It's not a hole or rip but just a bare spot.

The mechanics are all sound, it runs well.  The body is in excellent condition, there's no rust or dents.  It is the original paint and it still has a high shine, there are however several chips and dings and just small spots of missing paint that have all been touched up. Most notable is a series of door dings that have been touched up.  It has been this way since the 80's when I believed the older gal that owned it would open the door into some pole or some object in the garage.  They don't stand out, you have to look for them.  But they are there.

The tonneau cover makes this Thunderbird convertible extra special.  It makes it a sleek two seater and a great ride for date night. This was a factory delivered extra that are very rare.  Very few Tbirds came this way  Today they sell separately for anywhere form 3 to 5 grand.  It is in good condition, it is made from fiberglass, chrome and padded vinyl.  It does have scratches and nicks that have been touched up.  It is easily put on and taken off and it can be left on when the roof is up, however the securing screws should be in place as I believe that the scratches were caused by the roof when it was not properly bolted in place.

This car came with all the extra's, power windows, power steering and air conditioning which unfortunately is not working, but hey it's a convertible.  It also has the signature sliding steering wheel that makes it fun and easy to get in and out.  The luggage rack on the back trunk is a real pleasing design extra.

The white convertible top is good condition and the plastic window is crystal clear.  It is also fully automatic! The trunk lifts and the top retracts and stows away inside with just the touch of a button.  Ford really designed this well for the Thunderbird. It is by far one of the best designs for a fully automatic retracting top on any convertible on the road.

All in all, for 50 years old this is a great automobile, although its not perfect it will be one you will be very fond to drive.  You're family and friends will simply love to ride in it.  Especially, when you have your local oldies station tuned in to the original am radio with front and rear speakers which provide great ambiance even with the top down.

This Thunderbird is priced to sell and with tonneau cover included is a great value.  It is projected to not only hold its value but increase over time, and with literally all parts for this car still easily available and reasonably priced from vendors such as tbheadquarters.com you can continue to maintain and enhance this car over time.

Ford idling Michigan Assembly Plant to trim Focus, C-Max supply

Tue, 22 Oct 2013

Ford will be putting the brakes on production at its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, MI, idling production during the weeks of October 28 and December 16. Ford is citing the first drop in US sales in 27 months, a 4.2-percent dip in September, as the impetus for trimming their supplies, according to Automotive News.
Ford's deft management of its supplies has been part of its success over the years, and seeing supplies of Focus and C-Max, the two vehicles built at MAP, rise from 58 and 108 days, respectively, to 71 and 122 days over the span of a month was apparently all that was need to justify the trimming. As AN points out, the rule of thumb for many automakers is to maintain a 60-day supply of vehicles.
"Ford has been focused on keeping their pricing in check. Their operating margin is in double digits. Nobody else is there and they're obviously very proud of that," Alan Baum, an auto analyst with Baum & Associates told AN. Keeping the supply chain operating smoothly and not increasing supplies too much is crucial to that healthy profit margin. After all, a large supply lowers prices ,which, in turn, cuts profit. So while this news might not be great for employees at MAP, who now have an extra two weeks of vacation time, it's far from a sign of problems in Dearborn. Quite the opposite, actually.

V8-powered 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor R spied testing alongside Ram TRX

Wed, Apr 7 2021

Spy photographers captured Ford engineers testing what appears to be a 2022 F-150 Raptor R alongside a Ram TRX this week, giving us a sneak preview of the first major battle in the coming war for super-pickup dominance.  Ford has remained tight-lipped about the Raptor R's performance specs. We know only that it will be powered by a V8 (likely a variant of the 760-horsepower, supercharged 5.2-liter unit from the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500), and that it's due to break cover some time later this year. Given that the 702-horsepower Ram TRX will be the Raptor R's only competition (and pretty much the only reason it exists in the first place), Ford's decision to benchmark the fast Ram is a bit of a no-brainer.  The Blue Oval's performance engineers have years of practice when it comes to building high-performance off-road trucks, so despite Ram's first-strike advantage and Hellcat trump card, the TRX might actually be the underdog in this fight. Why? Well, based on what we've seen of the EcoBoost-powered 2021 Raptor so far, it should weigh at least 500-600 pounds less than the TRX, and while we expect that gap to shrink with the addition of the bigger engine, it's likely that it will still favor Ford, and perhaps significantly.  While the larger, supercharged V8 will certainly weigh more than the EcoBoost V6, it's still an all-aluminum engine (all SRT motors are based on cast-iron blocks) and Ford still has the advantage of its lightweight body panels. There will likely be more to the Raptor R's chassis modifications than a new set of engine mounting points, since the existing Raptor was not engineered to handle an 800-horsepower engine, but even with the chassis modifications necessary to handle that power, we expect the Raptor R to be the featherweight of the two.  Since Ford plans to get the Raptor R into production for the 2022 model year, we shouldn't have to wait much longer to find out just exactly how it shapes up against Ram's big dinosaur. Stay tuned. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Ford opens research center in Silicon Valley

Fri, Jan 23 2015

These days, the software running a vehicle's myriad of electronic systems seems to be getting nearly as much development focus from automakers as the traditional mechanical parts that keep a car going. Constantly improving that technology requires a lot of experimentation, though, and Ford is expanding its presence in Silicon Valley with the just-opened Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto to make that progress possible. Ford opened its first office in the country's technological hub in 2012 to draw talent and devise ways to deal with vast amounts of sensor data. Apparently, setting up shop in Silicon Valley was deemed a success because the Blue Oval decided to create this new lab in the Stanford Research Park to focus on five areas: connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience and analytics. Among the center's potential projects, Ford is hoping to develop better natural speech recognition, which is absolutely vital for improving infotainment systems. Assuming the tech eventually works well enough, your voice might even be used to adjust a vehicle's power seats, according to the automaker. The Blue Oval is also letting engineers from Stanford University test autonomous driving algorithms on a self-driving version of the Fusion. In a smaller stakes venture, researchers are working to get a Nest smart thermometer to automatically adjust the temperature at home depending on if an owner's vehicle is leaving or coming back. To really show that its serious about these ventures, Ford hired Dragos Maciuca away from Apple as the center's technical leader. The automaker also wants to have 125 researchers at work there by the end of the year.
