1979 T-bird Thunderbird For Parts Or Restore Original on 2040-cars
San Jose, California, United States
|
I purchased this car in 1999 with intentions of driving it and restoring it. About 6 months after I purchased it I was idling at a stop light and it stopped running. The timing chain was replaced with new timing gears. The replacement gears are metal. The car has been sitting in storage for the last 15 years on an asphalt pad. It will need to be gone through. I start it and drive it short distances to get fuel or the oil changed or get it washed. It has back registration fees of $639 and will need another $10 for a state inspection plus smog fees to put it on the road in California. Buyer is responsible for payment of these fees if vehicle is to be licensed in California. The Good: Glass is good. Dash is free of cracks. Interior is good and stock, headliner is like new. New parts: brake pads, spark plugs, wires, filters, timing chain & gears were replaced when I got it. Battery is about 6 months old. Master cylinder is new. Center caps: 2 are NOS, 2 look new but came with the car. Hood ornament and 'Thunderbird' lettering for above the glove box are NOS. Windshield wipers are new. Floors are solid. Stock radio. Car has always been in California to the best of my knowledge. There is a Moffett Field parking sticker on the windshield. Window tint is static cling and can be removed in about 5 minutes. The car starts, runs and stops. The headlights stopped working. Hi-beams still work. The rest of the lights work. The car still has most of its original paint. Has the factory ford turbine rims. I drove it 6 miles to get the master cylinder replaced. That said it is a 35 year old car that has been sitting for the last 15 years on an asphalt pad so it will need to be gone through. The Bad: The following are known problems with the car: The carb is original and needs to be rebuilt. It starts and runs but will stall after the engine gets warmed up. Windshield wipers do not work. They worked prior to parking the car. Tires are dry-rotting but still hold air. Small amount of surface rust on the driver's side pillar. Headlights stopped working after the car was parked. Hi-beams and the rest of the lights work. There is play in either the ring gear or the pinion gear- when you put the car into drive or reverse there is some play. It is not the u-joints. There is a hole in the drivers side carpet. Sensor for the brakes stopped functioning- brake light in the dash is on. Vacuum for the headlamp covers has a small leak and the headlights will open after a day or two. New battery 02/02/14. NOS speedometer cable. NOS center caps (2). The other 2 look new. NOS hood ornament. NOS dash emblem. NOS dome light cover. NOS rear bumper pad. New master cylinder 07/22/14. Antenna is in trunk. If you need other pics email me and I will send them. Thanks! |

Best 3rd row SUVs of 2022
Wed, Oct 19 2022If you plan on using a vehicle's third row a lot, let us at least make the suggestion that a minivan would be a smarter bet than anything you're going to see on this list of best three-row SUVs. Their third rows are bigger, more comfortable and easier to get to. The kids will definitely be happier. Here are our two top choices. OK, now that that's out of the way, we totally get why minivans are totally depressing and that if the kids want to be happier, they can buy their own darn vehicle. You're buying, you're driving, you're being seen in it and you'd rather have a three-row SUV. Fair enough. Luckily, there are more choices than ever and they're really good. The best do a particularly good job of being family friendly without looking like a drab transportation appliance, although really, you can't go wrong with any of the mainstream three-row SUVs. Now, some of the luxury choices are a bit suspect, including those that are otherwise very appealing but have cramped third-row seats (the Genesis GV80 comes to mind). We're focusing on three-row SUVs here, so having a usable third row is a must.  In this list, we have broken things down into four sub-categories: Best Three-Row Crossover |  Best Full-size Three-Row SUV Best Luxury Three-Row SUV |  Best Flagship Luxury Three-Row SUV Note that we define crossovers as SUVs since most buyers use the terms interchangeably, but acknowledge that "crossover" is literally a vehicle with a car-like unibody structure as opposed to the truck-like, body-on-frame construction that traditionally has defined "SUV." In other words, we consider all crossovers SUVs, but not all SUVs are crossovers (specifically those in the full-size segment and some in the flagship luxury segment). Best Three-Row Crossover SUVs of 2024 2024 Honda Pilot Why it stands out: Exceptional storage and cargo space; unique second-row functionality; refined ride; versatile and capable TrailSport; advanced AWDCould be better: Subpar acceleration with lackadaisical transmission and engine response; so-so driver assistance tech Read our full 2024 Honda Pilot Review The Honda Pilot was completely redesigned for 2023. It maintains its predecessor's family friendly packaging and overall focus, but it has injected a welcome sense of style (especially in the TrailSport pictured above) that makes it stand out much better from the big crossover crowd.
World Car Awards finalists snub American-branded vehicles — except for Bronco
Fri, Feb 2 2024The list of World Car Awards has been whittled down to 10 finalists, but only one American brand — Ford — appears among the remaining nine carmakers for this yearÂ’s top award. The Bronco is there, and it also is balloted as a finalist in the design category. The other categories are performance car, urban car, electric vehicle and luxury model. Each category has five finalists except World Car, which has 10. One brand conspicuous by its absence in any category: Tesla. The winner in each is scheduled to be crowned March 27 at the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan. This year marks the 20th year of the World Car Awards and the partnership with the New York show. The selection process involves 100-plus automotive journalists from 29 countries who vote, as they review and test-drive the eligible vehicles for the 2024 awards. Their journey is captured virtually on World Car TV. If youÂ’re counting, the brands that appear most on the six finals lists are Mercedes-Benz (four times), BMW (also four), Hyundai (three), and Volvo (three). HereÂ’s the full listing. A video clip showing all of them is here: World Car -BYD Seal / Atto 4 -Ford Bronco -Hyundai Kona / Kona Electric -Hyundai Santa Fe -Kia EV9 -Mazda CX-90 -Subaru Crosstrek -Toyota Prius -Volkswagen ID.7 -Volvo EX30 World Car Design of the Year Ford Bronco Ferrari Purosangue Toyota Prius Volvo EX30 Zeekr X 2024 World Electric Vehicle BMW i5 Kia EV9 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV Volkswagen ID.7 Volvo EX30 2024 World Luxury Car - BMW 5 Series / i5 - Lexus LM - Mercedes-Benz CLE - Mercedes-Benz E-Class - Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV 2024 World Urban Car - Abarth 500e - BYD Dolphin - Lexus LBX - Suzuki Fronx - Volvo EX30 2024 World Performance Car - BMW M2 - BMW XM - Ferrari Purosangue - Hyundai Ioniq 5 N - Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid
Inside Ford's high-tech climate chamber
Sat, Dec 27 2014There are two ways an automaker can test its vehicles in extreme climates: it can send said vehicle around the world – from Death Valley to the Arctic Circle – in search of the harshest weather, or it can recreate those conditions in an enclosed environment. We're sure that many automakers undertake some combination of both, but in this latest video clip, Ford shows us around inside it's state-of-the-art climate chamber. At its Driveability Test Facility in Allen Park, MI – inaugurated in 2010 just across the street from the Roush Technology Center – Ford can simulate all sorts of extreme conditions. It can drop the temperature down to -40 degrees Fahrenheit or raise it up to 130, and take it up to a simulated 12,000 feet above sea level or drop it down to 280 feet below. blast it with 150-mile-per-hour winds. It can control the level of humidity, approximate the intensity of the sun and even blast the test vehicle with artificial snow, just like your favorite ski resort. The facility strikes us as an engineering feat as impressive as some of the vehicles it's used to test, but don't take our word for it – scope it out for yourself in this brief two-minute video clip, which even includes some helpful tips for winter driving this holiday season and beyond.
