This 1966 Ford Thunderbird Landau is originally from South Carolina. It was purchased by a mechanic in Florida who did a wonderful re-painting, vinyl roof and engine work on the car...that is obvious. I cannot verify the accuracy of the mileage. He added new shocks, and tires, then I had the carburator re-built, replaced the belts and radiator hoses and the battery. The car runs great, drives like a dream and gets compliments where ever I go. There are no dents or scratches, just a small ding on the driver side. The hub caps are new, I still have the boxes they came in, produced by Ford. The trunk is clean and the liner in good shape. The jack is all there, but I do not have a spare. The body is solid, the engine strong and quiet and the transmission shifts smoothly. There is some oil pan drip, but very little. I started purchasing items to make this car show ready, yet realize I do not have the tools or the background to do it the way it should be done. The interior is in good condition, yet needs further detail work. So, as great as the outside of this car is, this is what you should know. The air conditioning does not work, and needs the core replaced. The compressor tested fine, and all hoses are in place. The driver seat is split, and the foam in both front seats should be replaced. I have replacement covers, replacement foam, and bull ring tool/kit to replace them. The seat package includes covers for the back seat as well. The heat and air controls work, but should be checked and some seals replaced because the temperature does not change when moving from cold to hot. The map light and one vent control do not work. I have new cables for them. The wipers work, the dash lights all work, and the worm gear speedometer not only works but is just down right 'cool.' The gas, temperature and alternator gauges work, but I believe the water temperature sending unit is out. The console has a Kenwood replacement radio with power amplifier under the passenger seat. I actually purchased a replacement console as the console may have been cut to fit this radio. I have a factory reproduction AM/FM radio/cassette unit with in-trunk 10 CD changer to go in the existing console, or the replacement console should the existing one prove to be cut (I have not removed the face plate or radio to check). The door panels have some cracking, and the decorative panels are somewhat faded, yet the chrome pieces are good. I have replacement panels that require you to salvage the trim and decorative pieces. I have also purchased new kick panels. Where the fuse block is, that panel is cracked, so, I got an OEM re-made replacement. I also purchased a replacement back deck as the mechanic also replaced the back speaker and used a speaker cover that is not true to the original car. The roof liner is new, but the controls in the roof panel do not work. I also have a replacement screw kit for the interior. Finally, I believe the drip pans that catch water that drops down the vent openings in front of the wind shield allowing it to drain-out thru openings in the firewall allow water to get into the car. This should be sealed so water does not get into the car. I believe I have covered everything. If you are looking for a classic T Bird and love the style of this car like I do, and want to have someone do the final detail work or do it yourself, you will be hard pressed to find a better car. Thank you for your interest and good luck bidding.

Ford honors Chinese Year of the Horse with Vaughn Gittin Jr., Mustang video
Fri, Feb 27 2015Calendar years and fiscal years tend to be the only timetables automakers concern themselves with, but that doesn't mean there isn't recognition of other measures of time. Ford has opted to observe the Chinese zodiac, largely because the Year of the Horse ended just last week. That's fortuitous timing, considering the first Ford Mustangs were making their way towards the People's Republic as celebrations were carrying on. To recognize this fact, and the end of the Year of the Horse, Ford recruited drift king Vaughn Gittin, Jr., to take a 2015 Mustang GT to the streets of Ordos City, in north-central China. It's not as dramatic as some of Ford's recent videos, like the one starring Ken Block and the Ford Focus RS, but it's pretty cool all the same. Take a look. Project Ugly Horse: Part VI
Thu, 21 Mar 2013Solid axle? What solid axle?
I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation.
This should not have gone this easily. Having a long and checkered history of simple projects punctuated by much wailing and gnashing of knuckles, I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation when I finally decided to lay hands on the '89 Mustang with the goal of relieving the car of its stock rear axle. Instead, it took less than a full morning's worth of work to carve the old 7.5-inch solid axle from its moorings and mock up something, well, different.
Trucks, SUVs — and Camry — shine in mixed U.S. January vehicle sales
Thu, Feb 1 2018DETROIT — Automakers posted mixed U.S. new vehicle sales data for January, with American consumers continuing to abandon passenger cars for the larger pickup trucks, SUVs and crossover models that manufacturers also love because they are far more profitable. Total industry auto sales for the month rose 1 percent versus January 2016. According to Autodata Corp, which tracks industry sales, the seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) of U.S. car and light truck sales in January fell to 17.12 million units from 17.44 million a year earlier. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a January SAAR of 17.2 million units. U.S. auto industry sales fell 2 percent in 2017 to 17.23 million vehicles after hitting a record high in 2016 and are expected to drop further in 2018 despite a solid economy. Interest rates are rising and around 4 million late-model used cars will return to dealer lots this year to compete with more expensive new ones. Automakers have used consumer discounts to boost sales, a growing concern for observers who say this undermines resale values and profits. Discounts declined in January, but remained above 10 percent of manufacturers' recommended prices. ""I think the industry has accepted that (sales) volumes will fall somewhat in 2018 ... and I don't think the industry is going to go over the cliff with insane incentives," Mike Jackson, chief executive officer of AutoNation Inc, told Reuters after his company, the largest U.S. auto retail chain, posted a higher quarterly net profit. Mark Wakefield, head of the North American automotive practice for consultancy AlixPartners, had a gloomier perspective. The industry's less-than-stellar sales performance for January showed "we are now past the peak," he said. "Automakers are now selling the deal instead of the vehicle," he said. "That's a tough spot to be in because that treadmill is hard to get off once you're on it." General Motors January sales rose 1.3 percent, driven by a 16 percent rise in fleet sales. Sales to consumers fell 2.4 percent. GM posted strong gains for models such as the Silverado pickup truck and Equinox crossover model, while its passenger cars continued to struggle. Ford The Blue Oval posted a 6.6 percent sales decline for January, with retail sales down 4.3 percent. Sales of Ford's F-Series pickup trucks - America's best-selling vehicle brand for decades — rose 1.6 percent. Passenger cars were down more than 23 percent.
