It's with great regret that I am listing my '62 Bird. Two startups and a kid with athletic endeavors divides my time and she needs a new home.

I have been restoring this car over the last 12 years and have probably put over $50k into it, not counting personal hours.

Most of the chrome was completely redone, the body was not frame off, but taken down the metal. No bondo, no collisions.

I've gone through almost ever inch of the car over the last decade, although I didn't crack open the motor, it's still original and solid. 65,600 miles

Transmission rebuilt, front and rear suspension rebuilt.

Tilt away steering

New windshield

Fuel system replaced entirely from a new gas tank all the way forward to a larger Holly 4bl carb.

New dash, windshield, carpet, mirrors.

New spring, bushings, arms, etc...

All electrical working minus the clock

In the last 6 months put in a Alt/Gen combo which is keeping battery charged nicely.

Fiberglass Tonnau cover. Gives it that Batmobile look and yes, there is a back seat. I've added rear seatbelts.

Electric top that retracts into the rear trunk.

Entire hydraulic roof system rebuilt last year. This is what can fail and frustrate Conv Bird owners. This one is good to go. Top canvas needs replacing (roughly $500 plus labor). It was a fair weather car for me so I didn't bother with new top although I do put it up and down when using. This keeps hydraulics working properly.

Still have original wheels but it rides better on wider tires on the Torque Thrust wheels. They need to be re-chromed if you want to use the originals, both wheel sets included. Easier to replace in my opinion if you want to go that route or original wire wheels. A more narrow set of tires could be put on and Fender skirts could be added to give it a lower in the back look. Easy change if you want to run it with fender skirts.

New pioneer bluetooth stereo with mic installed. Can also go back original. Original stereos are easy to obtain.

Rebuilt power steering

Custom dual exhaust from Leonards garage. Really helped this 390 breath better. Nice throaty sound.

All new brake lines

Replaced dash and carpet.

Car was originally pink. Again taken to bare metal. I dyed the seats black, white and black annondized the aluminum in the interior. The plan was to do a modest custom interior and redo all of that, or you could reskin seats yourself from various T-bird catalogs, replace aluminum etc...

The last two things on my list were the interior issues I just mentioned and detailing engine bay. The car is 90% done and runs well.

The car is solid. I'm confident you could jump in it and drive across the country.

No scammers. I've seen em all. Let me know if you are a serious potential buyer. I love this car dearly and would rather keep it than see it go to the wrong buyer.

If you are as passionate about Thuderbirds as I am you will love this car. It's popular with every crowd and a blast to cruise in. I don't think I've covered everything, but would be happy to answer your questions.

The history and future of the Ford Bronco

Tue, 17 Jun 2014

Some have suggested that the Bronco's demise was hastened by the fallout from the O.J. trial.
Twenty years ago today, ex-NFL linebacker Al "A.C." Cowlings drove his friend and onetime running back Orenthal James "O.J." Simpson on a parade lap of the Los Angeles highway system and onto an ignoble page of the history books. If you're in your late 20s or older, or a fastidious young student of 1990s American history, you're absolutely aware that Al and O.J.'s steed for the 'chase' was a white Ford Bronco. The white Ford Bronco, even.

Reflecting on the Ford GT on its 10-year anniversary

Thu, 10 Apr 2014

Ten years ago, during the bright-eyed enthusiasm of the early 2000s and before the collective automotive industry did its best Titanic impression, we had the Ford GT. An everyman's supercar like there'd never been (remember, this was before 638-horsepower Corvettes were a thing), the GT arrived with a supercharged, 5.4-liter V8 that produced 550 horsepower and graced this retro-styled rocket with an easy, sub-four-second sprint to 60 miles per hour.
Equal to the GT's performance were its looks. Inspired by the GT40 racers that dominated Le Mans and bested Ferrari in the 1960s, the sleek, low, almost-reptilian look of the GT was the absolute pinnacle of the retro styling that so defined the early 2000s.
Crank and Piston put together a video celebrating the ten-year-old GT, arguing that Ford is a bit too busy with the next-gen Mustang, which turns 50 next week, to do it themselves. In the short clip, there is gratuitous engine noise and supercharger whine, not to mention scenes of the white-on-red GT prowling the deserts and streets of Dubai. It's a bit short, but very nicely shot. Scroll down, have a look and be sure to turn up those speakers before getting started.

Jay Leno takes a Surfin' Safari in a 1937 Ford Woodie Restomod

Tue, 21 Oct 2014

Woodie wagons were a major part of surfing culture in the 1960s, offering coastal style and a ton of room, and they even earned a mention in the Beach Boys' classic song Surfin' Safari. This week, Jay Leno's Garage takes a look at two modern, restomodded examples of these style icons.
Unlike a lot of restomods, builder Scott Bonowski keeps these wagons looking almost completely stock on the outside, and all of the upgrades are hidden underneath the timber. You can't tell by looking at it, but the '37 Woodie (pictured above) has independent front and rear suspension, disc brakes and a Ford 5.0-liter V8 under the hood.
Beyond the mechanical aspect, the craftsmanship into the wood is astounding. Bonowski claims there are between 30 and 50 coats of varnish on this wagon. It makes these woodies as much of a piece of fine furniture as a vehicle to drive.
