1991 FORD RANGER XLT (REGULAR & SUPER CAB) During this era Rangers came stock from the industry with many options. A buyer could have one with a 2.9, 3.0, or a 4.0 liter V-6 engine. This particular year, make, and model is the optional 4.0L (245 cubic inch displacement) which could be linked to a 5 speed manual transmission instead of the four-speed automatic currently installed if the owner desired. The motor is very strong; I've driven this truck across the country and back with little to no problem, transmission doesn't slip, and the rear end doesn't leak. An incremental vehicle inspection was complete. AREAS INSPECTED ARE AS FOLLOWED (100 Points) Cooling system, transmission, mechanical systems, accessories, undercarriage, brakes, tires; bumper to bumper. Problems were found and brand-new parts installed. For instance: four tires, alternator, spark plugs, tail pipe, repacked the front hubs, wheel seals, upper plenum gasket, driver side valve cover gasket had leak; all new purchase. Passenger side didn't have any residual signs of fluid loss, if it does there is a factory one under the front seat. Problems may consist of priority maintenance, such as shocks (weak), side mirrors move while driving, charge the AC and it will work, front brakes (thin, no squeaks yet), serpentine belt (a few cracks), oil pan gasket (seeps, carry a quart with you), power steering pump (seeps, bring fluid with you) reseal, carrier bearing (drive line link underneath; while driving you'll hear a specific noise once in a while, "tink," not a big deal just replace; cost over the counter is between 30 to 50 dollars, and I'd request changing the windshield because it's cracked, (after installing the new one be careful when you turn on the defrost during cold seasons). Keep it moving or you'll have to charge the battery, if not purchase a new one. Their I've said the pro's and the con's, to be honest it kills me to write the con's; figuratively speaking of course, she's a sweet thing. Get her out on the open road and you'll fall in love; her nickname is common sense :) THE POSITIVE She starts up and runs clean. All the lights work, cruise control, heater is excellent, oil pressure is phenomenal (40-60 psi), comes with a spare tire, lug wrench, floor jack without handle, tire chains, window seals are in good shape, no leaks internally, wiring is plumbed for a CB radio, all fluids topped off, CD player installed with Sony speakers in the back, you'll notice the half window also, it's convenient, current tags until 7/15, coolant is winterized, drives straight, and overall there is a few dents. I've spot painted to avoid rust, see pictures for details. The instrument is combined with sequential fuel injection derived to provide 15 mpg in rural areas and 21 mpg highway. Main advantage of a sequential system fast response time if a driver needs to make a quick change. More or less perfect, precise timing in case of an emergency. The throttle response is direct, which gives proper fuel to air mixture. Because fuel is used this way the emissions produced are lower. In terms of tires, the size is 195/75/R14, and I put the white walls towards the inside; your choice. TIPS When hauling, the max gross trailer weight is 2,000 LBS. The tow ball size is a 2 inch. Fuel tank capacity is 16.3 gallons. Oil pan will hold 5 quarts 10w-30, I'm using Castrol, which is my preferance. Important note; when and if you order parts make sure you tell the serviceman; this particular engine is the over head valve style design (OHV) which means the camshaft is placed below the valves. It will matter. Upon completion of the sale I'll notify you; see buyer requirements for instruction. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Good luck and happy bidding. |

GM readying aluminum-body fullsize pickups
Wed, 19 Feb 2014Ford's extensive use of aluminum in its 2015 F-150 is a big deal. A really big deal. Big enough, in fact, that General Motors is reportedly changing its fullsize pickup strategy. According to The Wall Street Journal, The General has locked in partnerships with Alcoa Inc. and Novelis Inc. - companies that will supply aluminum for the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks.
"Ford's introduction of the 2015 F-150 pickup truck was a game changer, and it's the first, not the last, conversion of this type," Novelis spokesperson Charles Belbin told the Journal. The switch to aluminum has allowed Ford to shave roughly 700 pounds off its fullsize truck's curb weight. And while official mileage ratings have not been announced, the weight loss should go a long way for improving efficiency, especially when combined other efficiency-minded improvements including better aerodynamics and new, turbocharged V6 engines.
Of course, aluminum-bodied cars are nothing new. But extensive use of aluminum in a major, best-selling product like the Ford F-150 is expected to kick off widespread use of this weight-saving material as availability rises and cost decreases. The WSJ reports that GM had originally explored the idea of moving to aluminum pickups back in 2008, but abandoned the idea due to cost concerns amid economic woes.
Americans will get a four-cylinder Ford Mustang after all? [w/poll]
Sat, 09 Mar 2013Ask and you shall receive. Remember that previous report suggesting that the 2015 Ford Mustang getting a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, and that it would be sold in Europe only and not the United States? Well, according to Road & Track, the rumor is only partially true - The Mustang will get the engine, but it is indeed coming to America.
Additionally, according to RT, the 3.7-liter V6 will continue to serve as the base engine, and since it offers up a stout 305 horsepower in its current form, it's likely that the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost will produce a bit more than that. At the top of the range, the Mustang GT will continue to soldier on with a V8 engine, which should continue to send over 400 horsepower to the rear wheels.
Finally, while we agree 100 percent with RT's heartfelt request for a paddle-shift automatic, we certainly expect that the EcoBoost 'Stang will be offered with a manual transmission as standard equipment. This is a Mustang, after all...
This unique '64 Mustang was Edsel Ford II's first car
Thu, 02 Jan 2014You probably had the same dream when you were a teenager. Your sixteenth birthday is coming up, or Christmas, or maybe both, and all you want is a muscle car to call your own. That dream has come true for some, and one of them was none other than Edsel Ford II.
Henry Ford's great grandson turned 16 on December 27, 1964 - two days after Christmas and eight months after the original Mustang went on sale. And that's just what was waiting for him in the driveway, courtesy of his father (and reigning chief executive) Henry Ford II.
The specially-prepared pony car had a pearlescent cream paintjob with narrow blue racing stripes, functional hood scoop, chrome trim, Euro-spec fender-mounted mirrors, a blue leather and aluminum interior, a monogrammed fuel cap... and a 289-cubic-inch V8 under the hood.
