1999 Ford Ranger Xlt Sport on 2040-cars

In nearly 13 years and more than 110,000 miles, my 1999 Ranger Sport has never let me down, but my life is changing and my vehicles are changing with it, so I'm putting the old girl on the block. Bought this truck in 2001 and have changed the oil every 3K miles, attended to whatever needed to be done, and kept all the maintenance records to prove it: Serpentine belt at 52K, shocks and struts at 70k, ball joints at 82K, Idle Air Control Valve, front rotors, calipers and pads, rear pads, four new tires and alignment at 111,000K and a PCV valve, spark plugs and NYS inspection at 117,600.
The truck comes with an aftermarket moonroof that is removable for full sun, a set of fitted seat covers, a folding tonneau cover and best of all, a Shurtrax "bladder" for extra traction in bad weather. This is a 4X2 truck but you fill the bladder with water in November and it freezes, forming a 300 lb weight right over the rear axle. It's fitted to the bed and works great. Much better than sand bags or bricks. This truck has a clean CARFAX establishing ownership and mileage, and is accident free (except for the pole I sideswiped at 5 mph in a parking lot last winter in the snow - had the fender replaced and painted. AC works great (re-charged last year) as does the heat and CD player. It's not a show truck but looks pretty good for its age. Only things I can think of that don't work: driver's side power mirror goes up and down, but for some reason not forward and back, and the O/D button hasn't worked in years (but I honestly wouldn't use it anyway.) Smooth, six cyl, regular gas, auto trans, etc. etc. This is a nice truck and, as part of our family for all this time, I'll hate to see it go. NADA value is $5,650, my reserve is way lower. You are welcome to come by for a test drive, I'm in Yonkers, NY. Happy bidding. |

Ford cuts production at 5 plants, has big backload of cars including Mustang
Wed, Sep 20 2017DETROIT — Ford said on Tuesday it plans to idle five North American vehicle assembly plants for a total of 10 weeks to reduce inventories of slow-selling models. The plants affected include three assembly plants in the United States and two in Mexico, the company said in a statement. The vehicle models include the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize sedans, the Ford Focus compact car, the Lincoln Continental and Ford Mustang, Ford Fiesta and the Ford Transit van. Ford said the Cuautitlan assembly plant that builds the Fiesta would be idled for three weeks. The Hermosillo, Mexico plant that builds the Fusion and MKZ and the Flat Rock, Michigan, factory that assembles Continentals and Mustangs will be idled for two weeks each. The Michigan Assembly plant that builds the Focus will be idled for one week, and the Kansas City assembly line that builds Transit vans will be down for two weeks. Ford did not give dates for the temporary shutdowns. The factories involved employ more than 15,000 people, according to Ford's website. The company did not say how many of those workers would face temporary layoffs. As of Sept. 1, Ford had 111 days' worth of unsold Mustangs, 87 days' supply of Fusions, and a 103 days' supply of Transit vans, according to Automotive News. Dealers had enough unsold Lincoln Continentals to last 162 days. Automakers aim for 65 to 70 days of inventory of most models. Ford and rival General Motors have wrestled most of this year to rein in high inventories of passenger cars as consumers have shifted to buying pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Production cuts slice into revenue, but also could help the automakers avoid deeper price cuts on vehicles they can sell. Ford barely edges surging Chrysler for Canadian sales crown in best year ever
Thu, Jan 8 2015The auto industry in the US showed strong results through much of 2014 with sales regularly growing year-over-year for many brands. That same trend carried over in the Great White North, as well. Canada posted its best numbers ever with 1.85 million units sold, up about 100,000 vehicles over 2013. The country nearly had a new market leader, too. The big winner among our neighbors to the north in 2014 was Ford with 291,951 vehicles sold, up 3 percent from 2013, according to Reuters. That success also handed the company the sales crown for the fifth consecutive year. In large part, the strong result came from the company's popular trucks, which represented about 80 percent of overall sales. "Ford moved into the number one position in September and didn't look back," said a note to clients by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants quoted by Reuters. However, the Blue Oval didn't exactly take an overwhelming lead for the year. The company nearly had to hand over the sales trophy to FCA after the company rallied in the latter part of the year. The Italian-American conglomerate had its best results ever to nip at the Ford's heels and move 290,004 units for 2014, a 12-percent improvement from last year. Jeep especially helped the bottom line with over 50-percent growth, according to Reuters. Only two other brands were able to break the 200,000-vehicle barrier in Canada for 2014. General Motors came in third place overall with 249,800 sales, up 6.3 percent. The combined Toyota and Lexus also barely jumped the hurdle with 200,851 units moved, a 2.8 percent improvement.
Ford sells 7-millionth Explorer in America
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Say what you will about the evolution of the Ford Explorer, from roofed Ranger to body-on-frame sport utility vehicle to unibody crossover - the bottom line is that it's been a tremendously successful model for Ford. In fact, the Blue Oval automaker has sold seven million Explorer models in the United States alone.
The milestone, marked nearly a quarter-century after the introduction of the original in 1990, comes on the eve of the introduction of a new Explorer at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. We don't yet know how the new Explorer will shape up, but we're mere days away from finding out.
Now heading into its sixth generation, the Explorer has formed the basis of Ford's utility lineup for over two decades. The Explorer landed on the market right around the time that the Bronco was trailing off, predating the company's expansion into larger SUVs like the Expedition and Excursion and crossovers like the Escape, Edge and Flex.
