Highlights and standouts from the 2015 LA Auto Show
Thu, Nov 19 2015This year's LA Auto Show has been packed with interesting debuts and fascinating industry trends. The Autoblog team is on the scene to examine all the new metal, and Senior Editor Greg Migliore has some show highlights for us in the video above. The Civic Coupe is a striking redesign of an extremely popular and important model for the company. And the restyled Ford Escape looks more like its bigger brother, the Explorer. There's this an much more in our video above. Watch it and let us know what you think – and look for more LA Auto Show coverage coming soon.
2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility shows up for duty in Chicago
Fri, Feb 13 2015The latest upgrade for the 2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is all set to patrol the Windy City's streets with its debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show. On the outside, the revised Ford police vehicle looks basically the same as the recently refreshed Explorer with a new grille and redesigned headlights. Inside, there's a restyled steering wheel and center console. Unlike the civilian model, though, the PI Utility gets heavy-duty brakes, a more robust cooling system, reinforced subframe mounts and larger diameter suspension springs for more strength. Under the hood, police forces get to choose between either a 3.7-liter V6 with 304 horsepower and 279 pound-feet of torque or a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of twist. Regardless of powertrain, these 'utes feature a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The transmission includes the awesome-sounding Pursuit Mode feature that switches over to more aggressive shifts when it detects harder driving to properly stop crime. Related Video:
Camouflaged Shelby GT350 seen on the street
Fri, Mar 27 2015The Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang made a grand debut at the 2014 LA Auto Show, and its more extreme GT350R sibling bowed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. With the order guides already leaked and the R lapping the Nurburgring in a claimed 7:32.19, many of the big questions about the high-performance pony cars have already been answered. However, when they aren't showing up at events, Ford apparently still sees reason to keep the models fully camouflaged on the street. Case in point: this recent video showing off one in testing. With the design already fully unveiled, there's not much left to spy under all of the concealment. This short clip does provide a real-world opportunity to hear the song of the 5.2-liter V8 with its flat-plane crank, though. As a development car nothing here is final, but based on this video, Ford is definitely making sure the Shelby's engine sounds great. Related Video:
