For auction here is my 1987 Mustang LX with the rare T top option. The t top was discontinued in September of 1987 so not many Mustangs of this body style were optioned this way, especially the LX.  I have owned the car since 2006 and have done a lot of work to it over the years.  I have installed the complete drivetrain from a 1992 LX so the car has the mass air flow 8 spark plug 2.3 and the computer controlled automatic transmission.  The engine runs well and has fresh plugs, wires, and crank sensor.  The transmission works well in all gears and has a fresh filter, fluid, and front pump seal.  The car is fully driveable.  It has been restored in the original Oxford White and looks very nice, but does have some problem areas.  There are a couple small bubbles in some areas and the lower part of the front bumper was damaged when the car was hauled home when the crank sensor had failed.  It is registered as an antique in PA and the plate can be transferred if desired to a PA buyer.  It is also listed as reconstructed, however I do not know why, and the title is in my name.  The car is lowered with Intrax springs all around.  The steering rack is a 15:1 unit and the car has V8 sway bars.  The wheels are custom painted Turbo Coupe 16X7s and the tires are 205/55/16s in good condition.  The front brakes are converted to 11" rotors with V8 spindles, and most of the hardlines on the car are replaced.  The interior was originally Blue, and has been converted to Black using mostly original black parts.  There are some interior items that still need finished such as the headliner, the door panels will need small filler panels, etc.  The lower rear seat is the original one dyed, and I am including an original black one that will need the fastening modified since it is a 1992 seat.  The heater core is new and the heat works well.  The AC is not hooked up and is missing a few underhood items.  The car has all 1992 wiring harnesses in it including the dash, so the mileage shown at 138K is from the donor car.  This car has 140K but all mechanicals have 138K.  The rearend is an 8.8 unit with 3.55 gears and a Traction Lok differential with additional clutches.  The doors are from a 1987 LX that had manual windows and locks which is what I wanted.  I will include the original doors if desired which are all power, but they are rusty.  The t-tops leak, so I purchased new seals that I never installed, and those are included as well.  The original key is included for the t-tops and all the keys for the doors and ignition work well.  Please review all photos and ask any questions, and please only bid if you have good feedback and want to own the car.  I wanted to add that the car has a BBK 155 LPH fuel pump, and the chassis has been painted with POR-15.  The door hinges have all been rebuilt with new pins and bushings.

Why Edmunds took a sledgehammer to its 2015 Ford F-150

Tue, Jan 27 2015

The discussion around repair bills for the aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 pickup continued from the beginning of last year to the end, and haven't abated; as an aside, some Tesla Model S owners have been shocked at disquieting repair estimates for minor damage to their aluminum wunder-sedans. Edmunds decided to inject some fact into the fray: it bought a $52,000 long-term 2015 F-150 and clouted it with an eight-pound sledgehammer. Twice. The rear of the bedside took the impacts since it couldn't be replaced, it would have to be repaired. To the pickup's credit, the only reason associate editor Travis Langness hit it twice was that the first sledgehammer blow didn't do as much damage as Edmunds wanted. After the second, the visible damage included the two direct impacts, a few creases, and a cracked taillight, so they drove the pickup to Santa Monica Ford to get an estimate, complete with a fictitious story about how the damage occurred and the mercy plea that Langness was paying for the repair out-of-pocket. In Part 2 Langness hits on some of the details with getting the truck fixed, such as the massively expensive taillight and the list of tools Ford recommends dealers have to work on aluminum. But he was promised he'd have his truck back in seven days, and Santa Monica Ford got it back to him in seven days. In Part 3 we get the bill. It's not small, but it's quite a bit less than it could have been if the service manager had charged Edmunds the official labor rate for aluminum. We're not going to spoil it here, so check out the videos above and below for the beginning and the end, and head over to Edmunds for the complete story about how it all happened and some riffing on the repair numbers. Here's how Detroit is selling more luxury vehicles than Germany and Japan

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Now there's an attention-grabbing headline, eh? Although the answer to the riddle - pickup trucks and SUVs - might be somehow deflating, the numbers involved deserve a going over. According to TrueCar's figures (click on the table to enlarge), six of the year's ten best-selling vehicles in the US that sell for a transaction price above $50,000 are body-on-frame, and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the only foreigner to crack the top five. Every enthusiast knows that pickup trucks are 'Murica's most popular vehicle by a colossal margin, and there have been plenty of reports about the popularity of luxuriously appointed trucks and SUVs, but compare these figures from TrueCar: 70 percent of Chevrolet Tahoe sales have a transaction price above $50K, and The Bowtie is expected to make $3.9 billion in revenue on 66,945 predicted high-dollar sales; 95.1 percent of E-Class sales break $50K, so the German company will make $4.0 billion on 67,006 predicted sales in that pricing sphere. It's about the only time you'll see the Tahoe ranked right next to Mercedes' bread-and-butter sedan. Ram is ahead of those two with $4.2B coming from $50K-plus sales. The Ford F-Series does almost as much revenue as the next three combined, with an expected $10.8 billion coming from sales of trucks over $50K - more than a quarter of the model's total sales, when a base F-150 can be had for about $26,000. Yes, the Germans make a lot more money on fewer sales, but considering the comparison, the bottom line isn't too troubled by such facts. Weighing like-for-like, the full-size Ford walks it in every category; elsewhere, the Chevrolet Silverado outsells the Ram, but the Ram outsells the Chevy by 6.7 percent above $50K. And for all the flak GMC takes over swapping out grilles, the Sierra also outsells the Chevy in the well-appointed segment, 16.1 percent of sales versus 11 percent – the Professional Grade brand is a huge profit center for The General. You'll find more info in the TrueCar press release below.
