Up for sale is my 1986 Mustang SVO.  If you're found this ad, you likely already know what this car it, and what it's got, or have at least researched it.  For a vehicle built in the mid 80's, I am still amazed at what it came with and how it still handles, being very tight and responsive.  Seeing how things have progressed, it was indeed a car produced well before it's time (yeah "ecoboost" engines, I'm talking about you). And the seats..omg.  The seats alone are a work of art and by far the most comfortable and supportive I've ever come across in a vehicle.

I purchased the car 6 years ago from an individual in Texas, with the intention of restoring it, repainting, etc.  Instead it has been sitting in storage for the most part.  Funny how work, kids, and life in general makes the "fun stuff" so much harder to do.

- What I know about the car -

It lived in Texas it's whole life until I bought it.

Everything on it is original, down to the crap 80's paint.

The top end was rebuilt by the previous owner, and a manual ball style boost controller was installed.  The controller is still functional and does what it's supposed to.

It has A/C, which has been converted to R-134 and more importantly, is functional and blows cold.

Previous owner added a magnaflow catback exhaust.

The koni adjuster is still in the glovebox too.

- What I have done to the car -

Installed a K&N on the intake hose (seen in pic, original air box will come with).

Added newer mustang wheels (originals will come with, those to are in very good condition).

Had the clutch replaced with a SPEC 2+.

Replaced driver side spat, which was missing when I purchased.

Installed an Accufab adjustable fuel pressure regulator with an oil filled pressure gauge, bumped the timing up a notch and the fuel pressure up a tad also.

Annnnd in the interest of being up front, honest and making sure you have no nasty surprises (this car is 27 years old after all, it isn't perfect)

- Known issues with the car -

1- It really could use new paint.  It has 27 years of driving, pitting on the nose and the normal door dings obtained over those years from inconsiderate people.

2- I believe it needs to have the ignition checked out, or possibly the key cylinder replaced.  When the key is turned to ac on, it tends to need to be turned a hair further to switch the battery, fire up the fuel pump, etc.  There are times where it takes a couple of tries to start the car, others it fires right up.  I believe it is due to this minor issue.

3- When the clutch was replaced, it's possible there is a slight misalignment with something.  The drivetrain is rather loud between 2500-3200 rpm's, if you can imagine or know what gear rollover sounds like, that's the best possible description of the noise I can suggest.

4- The steering wheel and gear shift could use a recovering.

5- It will need tires.  I spent over a full year out of the country and recently returned, and for obvious reasons, was unable to drive the car while I was gone.  One or more of the tires unfortunately has developed a flat spot.  It's not unbearable when driving so the choice is yours if you choose to drive it home.

6- The hatch lock needs to checked out or replaced.  It's secure and will not open as is, but does not pop open when the button is pushed, and the key doesn't unlock it either.

7- The headlights develop condensation (common), the lower rear spoiler has a small crack (see pic) and the inflatable lumbar supports do not hold pressure for long.

Aside from that, the car it a blast drive and still turns heads (probably because most people don't know what it is).  If you pick it up, you could indeed drive it across the country without issue (aside from #2 cropping up at fuel stops).  The pictures of the car in this ad are meant the be as unflattering as possible.  I want to ensure you see the car as it is, and with no fluff of flair to influence your decision to bid/purchase.

GM and Ford quarterly sales continue to slump in China

Fri, Jul 5 2019

BEIJING — General Motors and Ford announced their quarterly sales in China fell, albeit at a slower pace sequentially, as the U.S. automakers were hit by a slowing economy amid the Sino-U.S. trade war. GM's vehicle sales in China for the quarter ended June 30 dropped 12.2%, while Ford's sales slumped by 21.7%. While GM also suffered from heightened competition in its key mid-priced SUV segment, Ford was hurt by the limited new models for customers to choose from. For the first quarter of this year, Ford's sales in China tumbled 35.8 percent while GM's skid 17.5 percent. Still, the numbers from GM, the second biggest international automaker in China by sales, and Ford portend more uncertainty for the industry which is trying to rebound from a downward spiral that led to its first annual sales decline last year in more than two decades. GM delivered 1.57 million vehicles in China in the January-June period this year, while Ford delivered 290,321 vehicles. China's factory activity shrank more than expected in June, highlighting the need for more economic stimulus amid higher U.S. tariffs and weaker domestic demand. Annual car sales in China fell last year for the first time since the 1990s, and they are expected to fall this year too. Sales tumbled 16.4% in May from the same month a year prior, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said. That marked the 11th consecutive month of decline and followed falls of 14.6% in April and 5.2% in March. U.S. car companies' share of total China passenger vehicles sales fell to 9.6% in the first five months of this year from 10.9% in the year-ago period, according to CAAM. Over the same period, German car makers' share has risen to 23.3% from 20.9% and Japanese auto makers' to 21.3% from 17.3%. CAAM is set to announce June sales next week, which industry analysts forecast will be negative.   New models In China, GM has a joint venture with SAIC Motor Corp, in which the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac are made. It also has another venture, with SAIC and GuangxiAutomobile Group, in which they make no-frills minivans and have started to make higher-end cars. Sales of GM's affordable brand Baojun dropped 31.8% for the latest quarter. But luxury brand Cadillac's sales jumped 36.6%. GM sold 3.64 million units in China last year, down from 4.04 units in 2017. Ford makes cars in China through its joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co and Jiangling Motors Corp (JMC).

Ford wants smart cruise that's speed and grade sensitive

Thu, Jul 23 2015

Ford is working to make adaptive cruise control even smarter and more economical for future vehicles. The automaker now has a patent (pdf link) on a system to use information on the grade of the road, traffic data, and a driver's preferences to eke out better fuel mileage over a journey. This solution would essentially put a little hypermiling right into a model's software. The Blue Oval's patent refers to this tech as "route navigation with optimal speed profile," and the system starts by splitting the way to the driver's ultimate destination into many smaller pieces. Each one is analyzed based on GPS data, and traffic info is also constantly updated. Based on the occupants' preferred travel time, all this info is combined to figure out the most efficient speed for each leg of the journey. All of these calculations are actually more than the car's computers can handle, so some of the math is offloaded to a cloud-based network. According to Ford, some of the benefits come when tackling hills while diving. Maintaining a single speed when going up and down steep grades isn't the most efficient method, but current technology can't easily make the necessary adjustments. This system uses the GPS data to adapt the vehicle's speed and leave the situation with better fuel economy. Ford is currently making major investments into autonomous driving technology and has some prestigious partners. While the patent documents don't specifically mention the optimal speed profiles for driverless vehicles, they seem like a natural fit. Over the course of an entire trip, the fuel economy gains would likely be even greater than over a few miles on a relatively flat interstate.

Editors' Picks January 2022 | Ford Maverick, Jeep Grand Cherokee and more

Wed, Feb 9 2022

This month, we awarded Editors' Pick awards to a number of totally redesigned, new models. Most notable of the bunch is the 2022 Ford Maverick. Ford took a chance on a new segment, and its execution is as close to perfect as we could hope for. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a worthy competitor, though, and was also named an Editors' Pick. Also in this list, we have the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's an excellent SUV, and it's only going to get better when the plug-in hybrid 4xe model hits the roads. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in January that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Quick take: Jeep's midsize SUV hits it out of the park with the latest generation. We could stand to see some powertrain innovation, but the Grand Cherokee's premium proposition is sound. Score: 8.0 What it competes with: Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer, Nissan Murano Pros: Highly capable, luxurious interior, choices aplenty Cons: Pricey, fuel economy From the editors Associate Editor, Byron Hurd — "Jeep did almost everything right with the redesigned Grand Cherokee. Its powertrain offerings are fairly unremarkable, but the new two-row 4xe will go a long way toward addressing that. It's an otherwise fantastic, modern, luxurious Jeep SUV." In-depth analysis: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee First Drive Review | 1 fewer row, 1 more touchscreen   2022 Ford Maverick Quick take: The Ford Maverick offers tremendous value, efficiency, incredibly well-thought-out packaging, plenty of storage, a fairly engaging drive and ease of use, all with the utility of a pickup bed. We like the hybrid, but the EcoBoost engine and FX4 package offer more capability. Score: 8 What it competes with: Hyundai Santa Cruz Pros: Very affordable, Hybrid fuel economy, compact size Cons: Tight backseat, FWD only Hybrid, no cruise control in base trim From the editors: Green, Senior Editor John Beltz Snyder — "The Maverick is simply a dynamite package. It's smart, useful, drivable, efficient, providing affordable utility in the underserved compact pickup segment.
