1970 Mustang Boss 302. The Boss 302 Mustang is one of the most famous and iconic high performance versions from the
Ford Mustang stable.
Designed by Larry Shinoda, the name Boss came about when he was asked what project he was working on.
He answered the boss car because the project was both a secret and for the Boss as an homage to the new President
of Ford Semon Bunkie Knudson who had brought him over from GM. Ford was determined to win on the racetrack and
thereby attempt to win
the Camaro/Mustang rivalry in the pony carsegment created by the Mustangs debut in mid-year 1964.
Their focus was on the Sports Car Club of Americas Trans-Am series, a version of stock-car racing
with a five-liter class that saw Detroit build some impressive handling factory machines to compete.
In the 70 season the Boss 302 team led by Bud Moore had drivers Parnelli Jones and George Follmer up against the
AAR Cudas,
Pontiac Firebird, Camaros, and Penske AMC Javelins. Ford won the championship with driver champion Parnelli Jones.
The Boss models produced in 1969 and 1970 have become sought after by collectors and the name wasnt used again
until the 2012 and 2013 model years.
The 1970 model year changes included side hockey stick stripes,
along with the 70 grille which replaced the 4 headlights with two vents in the outside position while retaining
dual headlights within the grille.
The dual exhaust system was redesigned, along with the competition suspension and a standard Hurst shifter. The
black sports slats, shaker hood,
front and rear spoiler with a set of magnum 500s set off the Boss 302 in any color.
It was one of the first production models with a front spoiler/rear deck wing. With a suggested price of $3,720,
a total of 7,014 were sold. Back in the day, Ford ads declared the Mustang Boss 302 as Pure Performance All the
Way.
The Shaker Hood suggests at what lurks under the hood. The view is a wonderful detailed engine bay with the
familiar Ford Blue power plant.
The mighty 302-cid engine was a composite engine using the Windsor block and large Cleveland style heads.
With ports the size of beer bottles and 2.19 inch intake valve , the boss wouldnt run out of air at even 8000 rpm.
The Boss 302 engine was built for the express purpose of meeting the guidelines to compete in the Trans-Am racing
series.
This original G Code engine was rated at 290 hp, however modern day tests show the engine may have been severely
underrated,
The engine and associated components have been correctly restored, complete with all the proper FoMoCo radiator,
battery,decals and tags.
These cars had aluminum valve covers and dual exhaust to carry the harmonious sound of the engine.
The wide-ratio four-speed manual transmission is sporting the T-handle Hurst Competition Shifter
which is arguably one of the most famous looking shifters of the muscle car era.
This handle provides the driver a fantastic grip on the power to be unleashed.
Standard were power front disc brakes and rear drum brakes to help slow down this low riding muscle car.
The virgin body of this car has been handsomely restored and is a rare opportunity to own a majestic Mustang.
This Boss 302 is a stunning example in the GRABBER ORANGE.The exterior proudly displays the beautiful deep
reflection of the GRABBER ORANGE,
which is sometimes described by Mustang fans as Competition ORANGE or Grabber ORANGE.
The factory correct blackout areas of the car are in excellent condition.
The unmistakable Boss 302 racing stripes start at the hood and finish underneath the rear side marker lights.
The exterior is further adorned with bright chrome bumpers that gleam with depth,
dual color-keyed racing mirrors/drivers side remote, large Black Front and Rear Deck Spoiler and Black Matte Shaker
Hood Scoop.
This Sports Roof has been fitted with the optional rear window Louvers/Sports Slats providing a classic look.
The undercarriage of this Boss 302 is nicely detailed to a show quilty restoration.
New raised lettered Goodyear Polyglas tires mounted on Magnum 500 sparkling chrome wheels finish the side view.
The fender trim tag and a Marti Report on file confirm all the factory chosen options for this Orange Stang.
This example is an early model constructed on JANUARY 1970 at DEARBORN.
The car was ordered by the OKLAHOMA CITY Ordering District and delivered to the PRAGUE Motor SALES dealership in
PRAGUE OKLAHOMA.
The Eminger Report/Dealer Invoice Copy showing a $3987.20 total for the vehicle is on file and this Stang is listed
in the Boss 302 Registry.
The Black Rhino/Corinthian standard vinyl interior is presented in excellent condition
with front contoured bucket seats and the optional Sport Deck Rear Seat.
The Black Bucket seats are in top quality condition and extremely comfortable.
The driver will enjoy the conveniences of a well-appointed all Black interior with a nice wood steering wheel and a
dash equipped with the AM Radio,
Tach and Trip gauges. A factory console runs between the seats housing the Hurst T-Handle Shifter.
In their February 1970 issue, Car & Driver praised the Boss street manners,
stating that it is quiet and exudes quality, very much like an expensive European GT car.
The stiff suspension and high shock absorber control give it a very purposeful feel,
and because the body doesnt quiver or rattle when you hit a bump, the overall impression is most satisfying.
A great opportunity to own a fantastic BOSS 302 and relive the glory days of the early 70s.

Detroit automakers gain market share simultaneously for first time in 20 years
Wed, 01 May 2013While monthly sales figures might be an easy way of tracking the progression of the auto industry and individual automakers, looking at market share might be more indicative of how each company is actually standing up against its competitors. For the Detroit Three automakers, they have collectively lost almost 30 percent of the market over the last 20 years, but now, for the first time since 1993, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have each posted market share gains at the same time.
According to Automotive News, Ford's share increased the most by 0.7 percent, GM was up 0.5 percent and Chrysler rose marginally by 0.2 percent, giving the Detroit automakers a total market share of 45.6 percent. As for the Japan's Big Three, the article reports that Toyota is up by 0.7 percent, Nissan is down the same amount and Honda has seen "little change."
Pickup sales may hit 2M units for first time since 2007
Sat, 21 Sep 2013Even as fuel prices creep back up, trucks are still a hot item among new-vehicle shoppers. To see how popular pickup trucks still are, you don't have to look any further than how much effort automakers put into the continual one-upmanship of their trucks. Backing this fact up, USA Today is reporting that the segment could top two million sales this year - a total not matched since 2007, though still far from the pre-recession, three-million-unit levels.
Through August, the Ford F-Series continues to be the segment leader with almost 500,000 units sold, but the Chevy Silverado (328,269), Ram 1500 (234,642), GMC Sierra (122,232) and Toyota Tacoma (110,293) are all seeing at least 20-percent sales increases, helping to account for around 1.44 million truck sales so far this year - not including possible outliers like the Suzuki Equator and Chevy Avalanche.
This year alone, General Motors has completely redesigned its fullsize trucks, Ram and Toyota have significantly updated their offerings, the next-gen Ford F-150 will be out next year and Nissan is promising an all-new Titan around the same time with an eventual Cummins diesel under the hood. It would seem, then, that truck sales are poised to continue their upward trend.
Editors' Picks January 2022 | Ford Maverick, Jeep Grand Cherokee and more
Wed, Feb 9 2022This month, we awarded Editors' Pick awards to a number of totally redesigned, new models. Most notable of the bunch is the 2022 Ford Maverick. Ford took a chance on a new segment, and its execution is as close to perfect as we could hope for. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a worthy competitor, though, and was also named an Editors' Pick. Also in this list, we have the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's an excellent SUV, and it's only going to get better when the plug-in hybrid 4xe model hits the roads. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in January that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Quick take: Jeep's midsize SUV hits it out of the park with the latest generation. We could stand to see some powertrain innovation, but the Grand Cherokee's premium proposition is sound. Score: 8.0 What it competes with: Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer, Nissan Murano Pros: Highly capable, luxurious interior, choices aplenty Cons: Pricey, fuel economy From the editors Associate Editor, Byron Hurd — "Jeep did almost everything right with the redesigned Grand Cherokee. Its powertrain offerings are fairly unremarkable, but the new two-row 4xe will go a long way toward addressing that. It's an otherwise fantastic, modern, luxurious Jeep SUV." In-depth analysis: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee First Drive Review | 1 fewer row, 1 more touchscreen  2022 Ford Maverick Quick take: The Ford Maverick offers tremendous value, efficiency, incredibly well-thought-out packaging, plenty of storage, a fairly engaging drive and ease of use, all with the utility of a pickup bed. We like the hybrid, but the EcoBoost engine and FX4 package offer more capability. Score: 8 What it competes with: Hyundai Santa Cruz Pros: Very affordable, Hybrid fuel economy, compact size Cons: Tight backseat, FWD only Hybrid, no cruise control in base trim From the editors: Green, Senior Editor John Beltz Snyder — "The Maverick is simply a dynamite package. It's smart, useful, drivable, efficient, providing affordable utility in the underserved compact pickup segment.
