A VERY UNIQUE SPECIALTY MODEL A FORD POPCORN WAGON SOLID MAPLE BODY BASED ON A MUSEUM VEHICLE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY WITH MOST OF THE WORK DONE! This vehicle started life as a 1928 or 1929 (has early features but title states 1929) Model A Ford Tudor. Due to a tragedy in my life I was in need of a project in 1994. "Model "A" News", a publication of Model A Restorers Club, had a featured cover vehicle in their July/August 1994 magazine, of a popcorn vehicle restored/built by the "Grand As", a Model A Ford Club in Wyoming Michigan and donated to the Grand Rapids Michigan Museum. I decided to replicate it so visited the museum several times and took photos and measurements and drew up plans. One of the pictures I included is of this magazine cover. First I rebuilt the sheet metal and mechanics. The engine was rebuilt by Integrity Automotive Machine 2858 N Cicero, Chicago, IL 60641. New pistons and rings and seals were added along with new valves and hardened seats. The rod and crank bearings were rebabbitted and line bored by Effingham Regrinding Inc. Effingham, IL. Integrity also resurfaced the flywheel and installed new clutch and pressure plate. The transmission has new bearings and seals, new universal joints and the differential was rebuilt with new seals. 3.54 gears were installed in the differential along with matching speedo gears, for better cruising speeds on modern roads. A new radiator is installed. The water pump is rebuilt with stainless steel shaft and new seals. The front bumper is polished stainless steel and the radiator shell is restored and replated. It has new original type lever action shocks, new leaf springs, and suspension parts. Bob drake repro steering wheel. The two major deviations from originality are the hudraulic brakes and 6V alternator. The wheels are powder coated. The chassis is painted with Imron black. A new wire loom was installed and it was kept as a six volt system. The body is the piece de resistance. I built it all of solid maple with rail and stile construction. The floor is full length tongue and groove solid maple. The secondary wood on the drawers is all soid maple and they are dovetailed front and back. All the cabinet doors and body doors are built and need installation (except for the windshield frame). All of the drawers are built and fitted. The glass is all 1/4" tempered plate glass with 1" bevel on all edges and it is all provided (again except for the windshile which should, of course, be safety glass). If I keep this vehicle I would repaint the sheet metal with modern materials, finish the interior with spar varnish as the exterior is, Do the exteror graphics in a more authentic fashion than the museum vehicle, install the electric lights and put on a fabric top, as originally used in this era. If the purchaser is interested, I will include, free of charge, the original magizine with the interesting story of the Model A Ford club which restored the museum vehicle. It is intertaining and shows some of their construction photos. I have an original 1929 Cretors popcorn machine with the rotating cylinder and the clown. It is original with beveled glass doors. It would be sold separately. I also have a fully restored brass nickle plated National cash register which is the small model used in candy stores. It also would be sold separately if a buyer is interested. I put a lot of time, and work into this vehicle and hoped to use it for our "Hospital Day" at Shriners Hospital when finished. A lot has changed in my life since 1994 and I've started and completed several other projects since then. Shriners Hospital no longer has this celebration and I'm well into restoring a 1961 E-Type Jaguar and don't see myself finishing the Ford for a few years yet. John Hennessey's personal 2015 HPE700 Supercharged Ford Mustang GT hits 195 mph
Wed, Feb 11 2015Dressed in a coat of menacing black paint, the 2015 Hennessey Performance HPE700 Supercharged Ford Mustang GT definitely looks like one mean muscle machine. The 717-horsepower 'Stang proved that it can back up that aggressive appearance recently when company founder John Hennessey took his personal example to see just how fast it would go. The result down the 1.1-mile straight at the Continental Tires Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas, was over 195 miles per hour. The Mustang is nothing but a black blur and wall of supercharger wail as it buzzes by the camera at top speed. Despite the strong result, Hennessey doesn't seem done with the 'Stang yet. The car still seems to be pulling when it hits the rev limiter, and there's some straight track left ahead. After getting out, John Hennessey immediately says he thinks 200 mph is possible. The heart of the HPE700 is a 2.9-liter Roots-Type supercharger running at 7.25 psi. That's a pretty massive blower, especially when considering the 2.4-liter unit on the Hellcat V8. The engine also gets upgrades like improved injectors, a new fuel pump, stainless steel exhaust and recalibrated management. The company claims the upgraded Mustang can hit 60 in around 3.6 seconds and do the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 131 mph. Prices for the package start at $59,500, but this one would would ring up for $65,874. John Hennessey and his merry band of performance car builders like to go fast, so much so that they have their own 1/4 mile dragstrip next to their workshop. Recently, the Hennessey team wanted to test their 717 horsepower HPE700 Supercharged Mustang development car (John's personal car and occasional daily driver) beyond the 130+ mph speeds that they have seen on the dragstrip. "Thankfully, we had recently received an invitation from the guys at the Continental Tires proving grounds in Uvalde to come over and do some testing on their 8.0 mile high speed oval", said Hennessey.
What an Atlas-based Ford F-150 might look like
Thu, 27 Jun 2013Just ahead of January's Detroit Auto Show, surprising rumors pegged Ford as revealing some sort of F-150 concept, perhaps as a hurried effort to deflate some of the buzz building around General Motors' new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra twins, which were also making their auto show debut. Those rumblings turned out to be true, as Ford rolled into the Motor City with its Atlas concept (inset, right), touting the truck's bold styling as a precursor to the next-generation F-Series.
The show truck featured all kinds of clever details, including active wheel shutters and a front air dam that raised and lowered to improve aerodynamics while preserving off-road ability. It also had a genuinely snarly face. And it's that pugnacious snout that may well be on its way to production. The good folks at TopSpeed have worked up the plausible-looking artist's rendering above by cross-referencing the Atlas concept with what little has been revealed from recent spy shots. The look is toned-down pretty dramatically from the concept truck, but its Atlas roots are clear, with a massive three-bar grille and bracket-shaped headlamps hiding a next-generation EcoBoost engine. In the rendering, the show truck's deeply contoured hood and roofline have been ditched and larger, more traditional side mirrors have been fitted - all likely concessions in the move to production sheetmetal.
While Ford has yet to officially announce when it will unveil the 2015 F-150, all signs point to next year's Detroit Auto Show - one year after the Atlas shrugged off GM's new pickups.
Volkswagen could outsell GM in China for the first time in nine years
Fri, 27 Dec 2013As of the end of November, Volkswagen had sold 70,000 more cars than General Motors in China in 2013, making it appear inevitable that VW will outsell GM there. The feat would return the German brand to the top of chart in China for the first time in nine years, but even the second-place getter won't be complaining too loudly: both automakers sold more than three million vehicles in a market pegged to hit 16 million sales this year.
Volkswagen said it could have sold more cars if it had had more production capacity in China. The arrival of a new-to-China Audi A4, a China-built A3 sedan, the VW Bora and Skoda Octavia, as well as an $18.2-billion-euro investment in the country to construct new factories, means VW should see its numbers grow in 2014. GM's lineup is expanding next year, too, adding four Chevrolet nameplates and two vehicles to its Baojun brand as it tries to get to five million in sales by 2015.
Among other automakers, Ford benefited from good product and woes for Japanese automakers over a territorial dispute with China, outselling Toyota by almost 32,000 units through the end of November. The Ford Focus is China's best-selling vehicle so far this year.
