You can't get much more traditional hot rod than this beautiful car. This car was recently purchased with the possible intent of swapping out the flathead for a J2 Olds or early SBC we have but it is simply too well done and this flathead runs so sweet that it makes no sense. We'll start with another car rather than messing with this one. Starting out with a very nice Canadian body that was chopped 5 inches a complete new floor was installed with the correct sills to match the 32 frame rails. The body is also using a heavily modified 37 truck grille, 38 Ford dash, passenger cowl vent and 1950 Buick tail lights. Inside is gorgeous rolled and pleated leather interior with lots of extra material for future modifications that might be desired. This interior was done by a well known and respected professional upholstery shop. This is one of the most well done A-V8 projects I have ever seen and one be hard pressed to find a nicer one. The frame begins with new 32 rails that are fully boxed, narrowed to fit the A body, have A crossmembers front and rear and a very nicely done center crossmember with lots of triangulation. Rear is a 9" posi with Dutchman axles and 3.70 gears on the A spring with ladder bars. Front is all chrome Superbell with Wilson Lincoln brakes using Buick aluminum drums and cowl steering. The engine in this beauty has got to be the sweetest sounding flathead you have ever heard. It is a .040 over 255 Merc ported, relieved, 1007B cam, new valves, springs, lifters, oil pump, etc. It employs Evans heads, Weiand tall intake, new Super 7 Strombergs, Bubbas' Chevrolet distributor, rebuilt starter and generator. Transmission is a rebuilt S10 T5 that works very well. This A also uses an Odyssey battery, an aluminum fuel tank and 16" Ford wheels, caps and trim rings. Also included is a painted, rewired and period correct heater that is that has already been modified to fit the firewall of this car. This gorgeous A starts, stops, runs, drives very well and a stack of receipts an inch thick is included along with one of the magazines the car has been featured in. A note of caution for the sake of full disclosure and complete honesty. The original 38 speedo in this car cannot be connected as the T5 is the electronic style and in order to connect to a cable the transmission must be removed and the tail shaft housing replaced with the mechanical speedo type. The drive gear is on the shaft however. The vintage tach in the dash will possibly need a control box to operate or revision to modern internals. Title is a clear and open PA title and the car is titled correctlyas a 1930 Ford.

Ford Fiesta rally car warms up in Sweden

Tue, 18 Mar 2014

Rallycross is seeing a sudden surge in popularity with two series bringing the racing to the US and Europe. The Ford OMSE team is competing in both championships this season, and it saw no reason not to hold practice with a highly modified Fiesta in the snow of Northern Sweden. It brought together Andreas Bakkerud from the European-focused FIA World Rallycross Championship and Patrik Sandell from the North American-focused Global Rallycross series for some training and fun. They certainly appear to be enjoying themselves, too, with some lovely pirouettes in the powder.
If you're unfamiliar with rallycross, the discipline combines the best of rallying and circuit racing. Drivers (with no co-drivers) race rally cars over a circuit that generally mixes dirt and asphalt, and unlike traditional rallying, multiple cars compete side-by-side at once. Even better, it's often a very two-fisted form of motorsports with lots of car-to-car contact. Global Rallycross and World Rallycross will both kick off their seasons in May. With spring on the way, scroll down to watch the Fiesta kick up some of the last snow drifts of the year.

Recharge Wrap-up: Ford Fusion and Toyota Highlander named Best Hybrids for Families; Funky Prius motorhome

Fri, Mar 13 2015

Tesla Model S customers in China will receive a "Universal Mobile Charger" with their vehicle. The charger will allow drivers to charge their Tesla anywhere, without having to search out a Supercharger when out in the wild. It allows Model S drivers a bit more freedom and helps alleviate worries about traveling too far from home. It could also help sway potential customers who suffer from range anxiety. The charger will be free to new and existing customers when it becomes available this summer. Read more at Car News China. US News & World Reports' list of Best Cars for Families includes two hybrids. The 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid was chosen as the Best Hybrid Car for Families, while the 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrid was picked as the Best Hybrid SUV for Families. The Fusion hybrid was chosen for its roomy, comfortable cabin, as well as the MyKey system's features for new drivers. The Highlander Hybrid offers eight seats - good for carpooling - as well as good mileage and a quality infotainment system. Read more at US News & World Reports or at Hybrid Cars. Audi plans to give its electric vehicles looks that differentiate them from the rest of the lineup. "In early 2018, we will launch a battery-powered sports activity vehicle in the large premium segment with a range of more than 500 kilometers," says Audi's head of development, Ulrich Hackenberg. "It will have a new, very attractive design, which we are developing especially for the E-Tron range and for battery-electric vehicles." According to analysts, part of the reason the Toyota Prius was so successful was because it was easy to distinguish from other Toyota models with conventional powertrains. James Lawler used mostly scraps to build the tiny house – complete with tin roof, chimney, and stained glass window – for just $150 Australian. It took him about a week to finish. Lawler made use of his creation at the Meredith Music Festival so he didn't have to sleep in a tent. He was, however, fined by police for driving the makeshift motorhome. Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost sales robust in early going

Tue, 13 May 2014

Okay, okay, okay, so I was just a smidge wrong. Those that read my review of the Ford Fiesta with the new 1.0-liter, EcoBoost engine will know that while I really enjoyed the torquey little three-cylinder, I was concerned that Ford's decision to force 1.0-liter owners into a manual transmission, steel wheels and one trim level might hurt sales of the new engine. I was also concerned that the promised 45-mile-per-gallon highway rating wouldn't be enough to tempt buyers into trying an engine that's so far outside of what the general public is use to. My concerns, though, seem to have been for naught.
While not doing a booming business on the triple-equipped Fiesta, Ford is seeing a take rate of four to eight percent per month in the engine's first few months on sale. Now, four to eight percent might not sound like a lot - if, like last year, the Fiesta sells around 71,000 units, there'd be barely 5,600 1.0-liter models on the road. It is also small potatoes relative to the take rate on EcoBoost-equipped vehicles across the Ford range, which US sales analyst Erich Merkle estimates to be roughly 35 to 40 percent of retail sales. Still, according to The Detroit News, the 1.0-liter is getting adopted at roughly the same rate as the sparkling Fiesta ST, which should be a solid indication of just how well this little engine is doing.
The 1.0-liter's success "really speaks volumes, not just to what we're doing with the Fiesta, but with EcoBoost in general," Merkle told Autoblog.
