BEAUTIFUL 1964 FORD GALAXIE 500 XL CONVERTIBLE, ORIGINAL, LOW MILEAGE, 390 V8 4BBL. CALIFORNIA CAR NICELY RESTORED... READY TO SHOW AND GO!!!
This Beautiful Skylight Blue 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible spent the majority of its pampered life in Sunny California. The documentation we were provided with shows that it was in California through 2003. We have service history that supports this to be a very low mileage car. In 1979 a service receipt documents that the car had only 2060 miles on it. In 1994 a service record documents it had 38,002 miles. The gentleman we purchased this car from bought it in 2004 and claimed it had 49,000 miles on the odometer at that time. He indicated the car was in amazing rust free condition and needed only a cosmetic restoration which he did in 2009. It was repainted in the original Ford Skylight Blue Color and looks fantastic!! These Galaxie Convertibles are an absolute joy to drive and cruise like a Cadillac!! This particular Galaxie 500 is an XL version with its original 390 4bbl V8, Cruise-O-Matic Automatic transmission, 2-tone bucket seat interior with center console, and Factory Air Conditioning. This is a great example of a very original, well cared for Classic that received a nice restoration that will make it a hit at the local shows and cruise-ins and can be driven and enjoyed by its next owner. If you have been on the search for an outstanding 1964 Ford Galaxie Convertible then sit back and relax because this one may be the one for you!! This '64 Galaxie exemplifies why so many people search California for their rust free classics. It is obvious that this car was always very well cared for and most likely was garage kept its entire life. From the receipt history we have it appears that it had 3 owners while it was in California. One owner was in the Military and the front bumper still wears the McClellan Air Force Base Registration sticker from 1986. The body lines on this car flow beautifully and it appears that it still wears all of its original sheet metal. The previous owner believed it still had the original paint on it when he got it in 2004 and decided it deserved a cosmetic restoration which he did in 2009. He went back with the original color of Skylight Blue and had a high end PPG paint job done by a true professional who removed the doors, hood, and trunk and painted the jams and inside of the trunk. At the same time they pulled the motor and detailed the engine bay as well. While it was a beautiful paint job, it was not restored to be a trailer queen or top flight show winner. It appears that the original body trim and emblems were polished and re-used and as you will see in the pics look excellent. Bumpers look great and appear to be original. The front grill looks very nice and with a bit of polishing could be even nicer. The only real blemishes I noticed along the body is an indentation along the edge of the trunk and a few tiny rock chips. This Galaxie has just enough of the original patina in various spots to make you realize just how original this car is. All the glass looks very nice and windows roll up and down nicely. This is really the ideal car for someone who wants a Classic Convertible that they can get in and drive and every now and then attend a local car show or cruise-in where chances are it will win its share of trophies. Here is a walk around photo tour of the body: I believe these Convertible Classics should be driven and enjoyed with the top down as often as possible but it is also comforting to know that, when needed, this Galaxie 500 XL has a beautiful white power top that will shield you from the elements if needed. The top appears to have been replaced at some point and is in excellent overall condition. It goes up and down at the push of the switch and functions properly and latches down nicely. It seals up nicely with the windows rolled up. It has a Glass rear window which is crystal clear. There is a brand new blue boot cover that snaps down easily for a great finished look when the top is down. Have a look: Complimenting the gorgeous Skylight Blue exterior is a great looking 2-tone Blue Bucket seat interior. The XL trim option added some nice upgrades to the interior including the center console shifter, the custom back seat with speaker mounted in the center and upgraded door panels. The interior was redone prior to the previous owner who bought it in 2004 and still looks fantastic. The front seats are extremely comfortable an there is no wear on the front or rear seats. The carpet still looks excellent. Door panels and dash pad look great as well. The dash itself could use some attention if you want to bring it up a notch. It appears to have all of its originals knobs and gauges which are just showing their age. Again, to me, this adds to the Patina of this awesome original XL 500 Convertible. All of the gauges and lights appear to be working correctly , however, the Speedometer/odometer stopped working about a year ago according to the previous owner and he believe there have been about 2000 miles put on the car since it stopped working which would bring the mileage to about 52,000. This should not be difficult to repair. This was an original Factory Air conditioning car and all of the equipment appears to be in place but it has not been in use for many years so it would need to be looked at if desired. The original steering wheel and center emblem still look very nice. Overall as you will see in the pics below, the interior looks awesome! As mentioned previously I am very confident that this '64 Galaxie Convertible has very low original miles on it. The previous owner indicated that the odometer stopped working last year when it was reading 49,802. When he bought the car it had right about 49,000 miles on the odometer and he believes he has put about 4000 miles on it in the 9 years he owned it. The receipt history also shows the mileage progression over the years that would support this. We have not looked in to the reason the speedometer is not working but the previous owner said he changed the cable and believes the issue is in the Speedometer itself. The original 390 V8 appears to have always been very well maintained and the gentleman who pulled the motor to detail the engine bay years ago believed it looked like the motor may have been gone through and set up with hardened seals for todays fuels. The previous owner updated the original points system to a Pertronix Electronic ignition, added a high flow water pump, a new 4 core radiator, new hoses and belts, new fuel tank and a new battery. The original 4bbl Carburetor was also rebuilt. This classic starts with ease, does not smoke or burn oil, and it is amazing how quietly she runs. At times you almost think it is not running...it is that quiet. I call this Galaxie 500 XL a cruiser and not a muscle car. While the 390 V8 has plenty of power it is set up for cruising and not stop light to stop light racing. The Cruise-O-Matic Automatic 3 speed transmission shifts super smooth. Power steering and Power brakes make driving a breeze and this car tracks straight and stops well with no pulling. Suspension all seems great and this car handles the road beautifully. Of course it is riding on a nice set of White wall Radials that are wrapped around the original wheels with wire wheel covers. This Galaxie looks just as it did off the showroom floor. The inside of the trunk was nicely detailed at the time of the restoration and has the correct trunk mat and spare tire. The undercarriage looks just as you would suspect of a dry rust free California car. It has been very lightly undercoated but there are no signs of rust or previous rust repair to the floorpans or frame rails. Original style dual exhaust keeps this Classic Cruiser amazingly quiet. This Galaxie is truly a blast to drive and would be a great car to load the family in and go for a sunny day cruise!!! Here is a look at the original door tag and some of the receipts I have mentioned. The codes show that this is an original 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible produced in the Los Angeles Plant with a District Sales Order in San Jose, CA. Produced in the Skylight Blue with Medium Blue and Light Blue Diamond Lustre style interior with the 390 V8 4bbl, 3-Speed Cruise-O-Matic Automatic transmission and 3.00:1 rear end ratio.
HOPEFULLY YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS '64 GALAXIE 500 XL CONVERTIBLE IS A TRUE GEM!! WHILE IT IS NOT A #1 TRAILER QUEEN TOP SHOW WINNER, IT IS A GORGEOUS CLASSIC THAT WILL MAKE A GREAT INVESTMENT AND SHOULD BRING ITS FUTURE OWNER YEARS OF ENJOYMENT AND MEMORIES!! Project CARS 2 is coming
Tue, Jun 23 2015It's barely been a month since we released our review on Project CARS, and already, developers Slightly Mad Studios is preparing a sequel. It'll use the same crowd-funding formula that put together such a successful game this time around. The sequel was announced on the World of Mass Development portal, the same source of crowdfunding for the first Project CARS. Among the enhancements Slightly Mad is planning, there's the usual promise of more tracks and cars, but what we're really looking forward to is the news hidden in that promise. Project CARS 2 will boast bigger, more exciting forms of racing, including rallycross. In total, there will be over "50 unique locations and 200+ courses," "8 different disciplines," and "200+ cars from over 40 different vehicle classes including never-before-seen Concepts and Banned Race Cars." Yes, this all sounds very good. Project CARS 2 will also add a new customizable test track feature, and there will be an increased emphasis on both co-op and social gameplay and "skill and behavioral-based matchmaking" in online play. The crowdfunding campaign for the new title is currently underway, although it's unclear when we'll get a planned release date. As for our own wish list, it's remarkably short. We'd like a more fully fleshed out career mode, actual vehicle upgrades and customization options, and a genuine economy would be welcomed additions. Part of the fun of racing titles is working up the coin to acquire new and exciting cars. It's not that we mind full access to the game's entire roster of vehicles, we just wish that in the career mode, there was a bit more planning and challenge to getting ahold of new racers. In short, we want the best parts of Forza Motorsport with combined with the best parts of Project CARS. Oh, and if the frame-rate issues we experienced on the Xbox One could be sorted out too. What would you like to see included in Project CARS 2? Perhaps cleaner menus? A better soundtrack? Have your say down in Comments. Until then, check out the launch announcement over at WMD. Ford recalls 462,000 SUVs over faulty rear camera
Fri, Jan 27 2023Ford has had some issues with its backup cameras in recent years, and the troubles are continuing with yet another recall announced today. In this recall, certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with the 360-degree parking camera could lose the rear-view camera feed. The newest recall affects some 462,000 vehicles worldwide, Reuters reports, including 382,759 in the U.S. under NHTSA recall 23V-022. The recall applies to the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator, as well as the 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair. The remedy involves dealers updating the vehicles’ image processing module software free of charge. This latest issue expands a previous recall, and applies to vehicles that have already been serviced under recall 21V-735. Owners will be notified by mail around February 20, and owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford told NHTSA that it first became aware in October 2021 of a small number of complaints of a blue screen from the rear camera feed on vehicles that had already been repaired. Ford worked with suppliers to track down the potential issue, and said warranty claims remained low until December 2022, when it started to see more claims for blue screens in vehicles produced after the last remedy, at which point Ford ordered a stop-ship on those vehicle lines. Ford said itÂ’s aware of 17 minor accident reports related to the issue, but no injuries. In addition to this recall, Ford has had other camera issues in the past few years that resulted in recalls. NHTSA recall 22V-151 applied to 2021-2022 Edge SUVs experiencing “a distorted, black and white, or discolored screen” when reversing. 2021-2022 Ford Broncos had an issue where the rear-view camera would remain on even after the vehicle was put back into a forward gear. Last year, Ford recalled 330,000 Mustangs for faulty cameras, as well as 277,000 Super Duty trucks over foggy rear-view cameras. In 2021, NHTSA opened an investigation into whether Ford was slow to recall more than 620,000 vehicles for faulty cameras. Recalls Ford Lincoln Safety Crossover SUV
Ford promises 12 new global performance vehicles through 2020
Thu, Dec 11 2014Ford just keeps rolling out the big announcements today. We've already told you about the next-gen Focus RS coming to the US and the upcoming Sync 3 infotainment system. And this latest one should perk up the ears of racing fans or anyone who enjoys an enthusiastic drive (basically, all Autoblog readers). The Blue Oval says it has "more than 12" new performance vehicles on the way globally through 2020. Unfortunately, the only one that the automaker confirms at the moment is the Focus RS, but recent rumors might suggest a few others. Ford reportedly has the Shelby Mustang GT350R, next-gen F-150 Raptor and a Ford GT successor all on the way, all of which could possibly debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The future GT might even take the company back to racing at Le Mans. Speaking of motorsports, Ford is also blending its performance vehicle and racing efforts worldwide into a unified entity by combining SVT, Team RS and Ford Racing into a new organization called Ford Performance. It's responsible not just for excelling on the track but also for developing aero improvements, electronics, powertrain and lightweight tech for the Blue Oval's vehicles. "Our new global Ford Performance team ties together racing, performance vehicles and parts. It will allow us to more quickly introduce products and accessories that meet the needs of customers around the world on-road and on the track," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development, in the company's press release. The automaker thinks this market might be booming, especially among younger buyers. For example, recent data shows Millennials buy ST models at twice the rate of the rest of Ford's cars. Scroll down to read the Blue Oval's full announcement of the new division and the plan to get excited about things to come. FORD DRIVING PERFORMANCE INNOVATION TO NEW LEVELS; MORE THAN 12 VEHICLES COMING FROM NEW GLOBAL TEAM Ford bringing more global performance vehicles to customers worldwide; more than 12 new performance vehicles through 2020 – including Focus RS – to be available globally Ford uniting regional performance engineering and racing teams as one global team under Ford Performance, delivering more new vehicles and parts, more quickly Ford will deliver more than 12 new performance vehicles for global enthusiasts through 2020, as the company announced today its new global Ford Performance team.
