1965 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible. White, 123,000 miles, V-8, 289 c.i.d., Autolite 2100 carburetor, 3-speed manual transmission on the column, power steering, manual brakes, no A/C, working AM radio. All gauges and lights are functional. The clock does not work. This Ford is a nice driving car, it shifts well and tracks straight. You can drive it home. This is not a show car, but it is very presentable. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it a strong 7. The car was repainted by previous owner. There are a few small bubbles near the bottom of the passenger side door. Floor pans are in good shape. There are two small holes in the left rear floor pan, about a nickel in size. All the exterior trim is present, but it is not perfect. Both bumpers are very nice. The convertible top is serviceable, but has some holes and should be replaced if you intend to drive in the rain. The original tonneau cover and foam pads are included. The cover is missing a few snaps, but is usable and does not flap at speed. I installed two new hydraulic cylinders (three years ago) and the power top functions very well. There is a tiny (1/4”) crack in the windshield that has not changed in size in the last 8 years. The interior is complete and presentable, although I think the front seats came from another car. The color is not a perfect match and the circular chrome pieces along the stitch lines are not present. The carpet is usable, although loose around the edges. The sun visors are worn. The dash pad shows the usual curling of the edges. The interior trim is in good shape. The chrome trim along the inside of the windshield is pitted. The driver’s seat bottom has some rips that I hide with a seat cushion. The spare tire and jack are present. If I completely fill the gas tank it will leak a little. I haven’t investigated the source of the leak. If you want them, I can include two good, rust-free front doors for an additional $100.00. The wheels (American Racing Wheels) and tires (BF Goodrich radials) are about 2 years old. If you are close enough, I welcome you to come drive this car. |

Ford secures Microsoft for software updates
Thu, Mar 19 2015Ford is dropping Microsoft later this year as its infotainment partner when the Blue Oval switches to the BlackBerry QNX operating system for Sync 3 (pictured above). However, the two companies aren't severing ties completely, because the Redmond, WA, outfit is taking responsibility for Sync 3's wireless updates. Don Butler, Ford Director of Connected Vehicles and Services, announced the deal during a speech, according to Automotive News. "We've obviously had a good, long relationship with Microsoft," he said. "Microsoft understands the automotive environment and the kinds of experiences that we'd like to enable." The ability for Sync 3 to accept Wifi updates was announced as a major feature the new infotainment system, but this was the first mention of how that has been handled. Ford will host the files on Microsoft's Azure Cloud servers, according to Automotive News. Owners will need to give permission to check for new software, and they'll be notified after an improvement's installation. Dealers will install Wifi transmitters to keep vehicles on the lot up to date, as well. Sync 3 is set to replace the much-maligned MyFord Touch later in 2015 on some 2016 model year vehicles, and by next year it should be available throughout the Ford and Lincoln lineups. In addition to the wireless updates, the new system also promises a simplified interface, better voice recognition and faster response times. Ford Motor Company is preparing for vehicle ownership and user experiences of the future with the creation of a global cloud based Ford Service Delivery Network enabling new ways for consumers to interact with cars. Teaming up with Microsoft, Ford will expand connected services for customers around the world using the globally scalable and reliable Azure Cloud infrastructure. Ford and Lincoln owners will benefit from the convenience of new connectivity services keeping them better informed and in control of their vehicle at all times with the expanded availability of features like scheduled remote start, vehicle finder, and vehicle status (fuel or charge level, tire pressure). Building the Ford Service Delivery Network (SDN) on the Microsoft Azure platform enables a common platform for Ford to bring new features and services to market faster, quickly scale up for global implementation, and remain flexible for the future. Starting later this year, the Service Delivery Network will first enable over-the-air software updates for SYNC 3.
Consumer Reports declares most and least loved cars [w/video]
Wed, Dec 3 2014Consumer Reports is crunching the numbers from its annual owner-satisfaction survey, and part of that process is finding out how attached drivers are to their cars. CR simply asks readers of models up to three years old if they would buy the same vehicle again in light of their entire ownership experience, and tallies the results. After looking at the responses for about 350,000 vehicles, it turns out that people really love a certain California-built, electrically powered luxury sedan. That's right, this year's the overall winner was the Tesla Model S with a whopping 98 percent of owners saying they would purchase another one (the Model S also won this award last year, with 99 percent satisfaction). The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in a close second with 95 percent of drivers hoping to park another one in their garage. A few models weren't quite so favored, though. The Nissan Versa Sedan was the least loved model among its owners; a mere 42 percent said that they would purchase another. The aging Jeep Compass didn't do much better, with just 43 percent of drivers willing to buy the softroader again. On average, about 70 percent of owners say they would buy their car again, and only four cars ranked below 50 percent in CR's findings. Check out the video above to see some of the winners and losers in a few of CR's categories. If you're a subscriber, you can check out the full list on its website. Watch Vaughn Gittin Jr. hit the ice in his 2015 Mustang RTR
Thu, Mar 19 2015There's more than one way to get a car to drift. You can set up a purpose-built drift car. Or you can put a car on a slick surface. But in this case, Vaughn Gittin Jr. has done both. In this latest video, the driftmeister extraordinaire reveals the new livery for his 2015 Ford Mustang RTR, and put it on a frozen track, flanked by snow banks. It's the perfect place to drift any car, and this custom pony car could very well be the perfect drifter. Call it a match made in heaven. A cold, frozen-over slice of heaven where rear-drive muscle cars put on one heck of a show. Gittin, for those unfamiliar, is one of the drifting scene's foremost showmen, and like Ken Block or Tanner Foust, he competes primarily in Blue Oval machinery. Vaughn will be challenging the Formula Drift series once again in the Mustang RTR, but whether the sideways-driving championship is coming to a circuit near you or not, you can scope out a piece of the action right here.
