1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Xl Convertible, Z Code Thunderbird 390, Fresh Mechanicals. on 2040-cars
Venango, Nebraska, United States
We had to swap some hard to find Mustang parts and a wad of cash, but we got the deal done on this very neat old Ford. The only problem is; unlike most of our local semi-arid vehicles, this one was out of Denver and has some normal rust. Besides the rust you can see; there is a foot of frame that will need attention. Passenger floor pan needs replaced. Some other small misc. holes will need fixed. Doors, jams, etc. appear solid. This is the 300 horse 390. We are told they checked the numbers when they put the $2,533 in parts in the car. At that time it got a full engine rebuild, new brakes, tires, new exhaust, and a full engine compartment detail including decals. Car starts, runs, and drives as you would expect from the result of a correct job. Engine is quiet and very strong. Carb functions correctly and the non-power brakes stop fine. This car has the correct 500 XL pieces inside and out, including buckets and console with shift. This is a good straight start, but will need the interior kit, rear quarters, passenger front floor, and other misc. rust repairs, but it is 99% there and nice trim and hubcaps on a pretty straight body. Windshield has a crack up through the middle and the top and boot are in fair to good condition. It is missing the XL emblem on right front fender and we only have half of the letters for the trunk. We have seen much worse than this bring a lot of money. Our reserve price is what a non-mechanical reconditioned small V8 car should bring. Have fun, but intend to pay for it when you bid. The car is fun to drive and presents itself well as it is. Do a total restoration or slowly bring it back to new. Either way: Check Google, these are $30-45,000 units when finished. It is rare and '63's are fine looking cars. Car is stored inside and there is not a great hurry in picking it up. Insure it when you buy it. We do not charge extra to help load. If car goes over a month for pickup, it might get moved outside. Thanks for looking. $500 down is due within 48 hours of auction end unless prior arrangements have been made. Remainder is cashiers check or bank wire or? within 7 days. We will work with you. Allow cashiers checks 2 weeks to clear our bank.

Ford Police Interceptors dominate Michigan State Police testing
Tue, Nov 1 2016Once again, Ford Motor Company builds the fastest police vehicles. The Blue Oval touted the news in an official release following Michigan State Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department testing. Ford did very well. Except for one acceleration metric – zero to 10 miles per hour – the Blue Oval's Taurus and Explorer-based cop cars were the quickest, with particular praise coming for the EcoBoost-powered models, which bested Chevrolet and Dodge's V8-powered variants. Dearborn's products also posted the fastest average times around MSP's vehicle dynamics course. But it wasn't all positive for Ford. The only four-cylinder in the contest, the 2.0-liter, EcoBoost Ford SSP Sedan, had both the lowest top speed, 120 mph, and the slowest acceleration figures. It was also the slowest in track testing. Ford's products also failed to match the braking and top speeds of its rivals from Detroit and Auburn Hills – the rear-drive Charger Pursuit posted the best braking stats of the entire test, while the V8-powered Chevrolet Caprice hit the highest top speed, at 155 mph. Ford did score a top speed award, among SUVs, but at 132 mph, the naturally aspirated Police Interceptor Utility had to share its award with the equally fast, rear-drive Chevrolet Tahoe. The LA County Sheriff's timing isn't publicly available, but according to Ford, the EcoBoost-powered police cars put on a similarly impressive show for cops on the West Coast. We've assembled a spreadsheet on Google Docs that offers an easy to browse comparison of the different stats assembled by the Michigan State Police, and divided the vehicles between standard V6-powered sedans, high-performance sedans (EcoBoost and V8 models), and SUVs. You can check it out here. Related Video:
Ford 'working very hard' on F-150 hybrid
Thu, Dec 4 2014The lighter, aluminum-bodied 2015 Ford F-150 gets (at best) 26 miles per gallon. That's not bad for a truck that size – and we should always remember that improving gas guzzlers can make a big difference – but what if the popular truck came with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain? How efficient would that be? We heard Ford talking about such a vehicle last year, and now we learn that Ford is still "working very hard" to make a F-150 hybrid happen. You want details? Well, we all want details, but those will not be coming for quite some time. Last year, Ford's global product development chief, Raj Nair, said that the company was planning to have hybrid pickups and hybrid SUVs on sale by 2020. With fuel prices dropping, Nair is now saying that a hybrid F-150 makes more sense, financially, than a diesel, but Ford could make both options available, depending on customer demand. The diesel wouldn't require all that much work, Nair said, since "we've got diesels in the portfolio." To date, the only hybrid F-150s we've seen have been conversions, often PHEVs, like this example from HVET or this one from Quantum. Pickup trucks from other manufacturers haven't been greeted with huge sales numbers. General Motors stopped making its big two-mode hybrids and cancelled the next-gen program.
Focus RS shreds in prep for Goodwood hillclimb
Tue, Jun 23 2015The Goodwood Festival of Speed is rapidly becoming a second home for Ford's hottest versions of the Focus. Last year, the updated Focus ST and high-performance diesel debuted there, and this year the motoring event has been selected to show off the new 2016 Focus RS. To get a little exercise before speeding up the hill climb, the Blue Oval unleashed its upcoming hyper hatch on a Belgian test track. Based on this clip, Ford's test driver has absolutely no problem whatsoever in making the Focus RS slide, at least with the stability and traction control off. Interestingly, while the RS shares its 2.3-liter EcoBoost with the latest Mustang, the Blue Oval's engineers give it a much different exhaust note here. Rather than a growling muscle car, this example has much more of the staccato bark of a rally-bred machine, which is a great fit. The all-wheel drive, 315-horsepower Focus RS should be arriving at dealers soon, and we're definitely looking forward to seeing and hearing it take on the Goodwood hill during the upcoming event.
