1978 Ford Fiesta Ghia

This is a very rare American version of one of Fords most popular European cars, it was imported to the United States from 1978-1981.  I am not entirely sure if you could find another one that hasn’t been crushed or scrapped left in the US.

The condition is unbelievable and almost everything is in perfect original condition. It is great little running car and has been getting a little over 30 miles to the gallon for the 1000 or so miles that I have put on it.

The carpet is in almost new condition.

Seats are slightly faded but in generally good condition and have a few worn sections with some patches on the shoulder rests where they got a little too much sun.

The exterior is faded with some surface rust spots right under the rear window. They have been painted with red primer to prevent further rusting.  Generally the exterior is in fantastic shape for the age of the car.

It took me a little work to get it running properly so here is what has been done so far.

All fluids changed (Engine oil, Antifreeze, Transmission, Brake fluid) Gas was also drained and replaced.

New Battery

Fuel filter replaced

Brake master cylinder replaced

Both rear wheel cylinders replaced

Valve adjustment

Valve cover gasket replaced

Water pump replaced

Alternator/Water pump belt replaced

Windshield wipers replaced

Spark plugs

Distributer cap/rotor

I also made some minor modifications by removing the original bumpers and adding LED backup lights in the back and new turn signals in the front.  These in no way effect the originality of the car because no holes were drilled during this process and the original bumpers can easily be put back on the car if you prefer that look.

There are a few extra parts that will also be included with the car.

The original bumpers and bolts that hold them on

2 extra wheels with studded snow tires in excellent shape

(car also has a full size spare in the trunk with a new tire mounted)

Tire chains

Original shop manual and some odds and ends spare parts in the trunk.

Here are the issues that I know about, there may be more but I have only had this car for about two months and have fixed almost everything I have come across.

When I first started driving the car it would puff a little blue smoke when first started.  However since the valve adjustment this has pretty much stopped.  I would guess that the valve seals were leaky and may need to be replaced at some point.

Muffler has some small rust holes that I patched with some cheap muffler putty, it makes it a little quieter but it will eventually need replacing. The exhaust system in general is in good shape but a lot of sitting took its toll on the muffler.

The car leaks a little bit where the driver’s side CV enters the transmission, it’s not a lot but it is enough to slowly build up in the driveway.

The radio antenna is missing.  The radio turns on and makes noise through the speakers but I have been unable to actually pick anything up.

There is a crack in the windshield where the rearview mirror attaches.

The hatchback lift struts on the rear door don’t work so I have been propping it up with a broom handle. Depending on how much the rear hatch will be used these can usually be replaced from $30-$50.

There may be more issues as I have not owned the car for very long and I can make no guarantees that something else won’t go wrong after you buy it.  It is over 35 years old and previous to my ownership sat in a garage for a very long time.  However with that being said this is an awesome little car that runs and drives great.  It is fast around town and can easily manage freeway speeds 75-80.  I have been driving it to work on a daily basis and I would not hesitate to drive this car across the state to visit my mother.  It has been a great daily driver and would make a fantastic start for a full restore or could have excellent potential as a little race car.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like me to send you pictures of something specific.  If you are local to Loveland Colorado, please feel free to come check it out.

$500 is due at the auctions end, with the rest due within 7 days.  All payments will need to be completely cleared and posted before you may take the car or have the title signed over.  There are no warranties expressed or implied, car is "as is".  Local pick up only, I will not ship the car. Ford rolls out Vignale Mondeo for upscale European buyers

Tue, Apr 21 2015

North American buyers looking for a luxury automobile from Dearborn know to turn to Lincoln, but overseas, the Ford brand itself appeals to upscale customers with its own products. The Blue Oval automaker unveiled a premium take on the Taurus for the Chinese market at the Shanghai Motor Show this weekend, and in Europe it's rolling out the Vignale sub-brand with the model you see here. Previewed in concept form a year and a half ago at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Vignale line revives the name of a storied Italian coachbuilder that Ford acquired (together with Ghia) back in 1973. Now ready for production, the first Vignale model upgrades on the Mondeo (which we know as the Fusion) with a number of high-end features. The cabin space is altogether more luxurious, featuring high-end, laser-cut leather trim with hexagonal quilting and "tuxedo" stitching. The multi-contour front seats have a massage function, and occupants are better isolated from the road via upgraded sound insulation and active noise cancellation. The Ford Vignale Mondeo benefits from all the latest safety-convenience and infotainment technologies, including an optional Sony digital audio system with twelve speakers. The exterior is made to look more upscale as well, with unique metallic paint finishes, special chrome trim, 18-inch alloys and the requisite special badging to set it apart from ordinary Mondeos. Buyers will be able to choose between sedan or wagon body styles, front- or all-wheel drive and from a number of engine options. There's a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four with 237 horsepower, a 2.0-liter turbodiesel available with 177 or 207 hp, and a gasoline-electric hybrid system with 184 hp. Each vehicle is hand-finished and individually inspected at the Vignale Centre at Ford's plant in Valencia, Spain, and will be offered through select dealerships outfitted with premium Vignale Lounges. Customers will also benefit from access to a dedicated "relationship manager," customer assistance operators on call 24 hours a day and a companion app, but of course none of these features come cheap: At around GBP30k in the UK, the price of a Vignale Mondeo comes close to that of an Audi A6 or Jaguar XF, and it'll be up to individual buyers to decide whether the spruced-up Fusion is worth the premium. Look for a Vignale version of the S-Max to follow.

Lincoln MKC recalled because start button located too close to touchscreen [UPDATE]

Wed, Dec 31 2014

UPDATE: Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker responded to our questions and let us know that the fix for the push-button start on the 2015 MKC has the switch moved to the top of the of the column of gear shift buttons instead of the bottom. Owners should be notified about both campaigns "toward the end of February." After massive campaigns from General Motors and to fix Takata airbag inflators, 2014 will undoubtedly go down as The Year Of The Recall. And with little time to spare, Ford is getting in just under the wire to adding two more to its yearly total. The larger of the campaigns is actually one of the most bizarre campaigns we've heard of all year. Lincoln is recalling 13,574 units of its 2015 MKC compact crossover in North America to move the location of the push-button ignition switch on the dashboard. According to the automaker's announcement: "Due to the switch's close proximity to other controls, occupants are inadvertently shutting off the engine while driving." The button is located near the bottom of the touchscreen, which can apparently make it possible to hit by mistake. Back when Autoblog first drove the new MKC in June, we came away very impressed, but noted: "... we're still not completely sold on the aforementioned pushbutton transmission selector ... it still seems somewhat gimmicky and it can't be operated by feel alone, as you might when shifting a traditional console-mounted lever from Park to Drive." According to Lincoln, there have been no reported accidents or injuries stemming from this button misapplication. Of the affected vehicles, there are 11,144 in the US, 2,033 in Canada and 397 in Mexico. To fix the problem, dealers are moving the button to a different location and reprogramming the powertrain control module. According to Automotive News, models built since September already have a different layout. The change was reportedly done to match the rest of the Lincoln lineup. The second recall covers 12,205 units of the 2014 Ford Escape (2015 model year pictured below) and 2015 Lincoln MKC in North America because of a problem with nickel plating on the fuel pump. The issue can cause the pump to seize, which can cause the crossovers not to start or stall while driving. The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this fault. Dealers are replacing the fuel deliver module to fix the situation. Of the affected vehicles, there are 9,038 in the US, 3,074 in Canada and 93 in Mexico.

An amazing Group B rally car collection heads to auction

Tue, Jan 26 2021

Kicking off in 1982, the Group B era spawned some of the most fearsome rally cars of all time. The technologically advanced pioneers of all-wheel drive and turbocharging defined a time when automakers had carte blanche to build machines with unrestricted power, without the burden of homologating a large number of road cars to qualify. The results were sometimes deadly, leading the FIA to ban the class after 1986. Now, a collection of seven Group B monsters is headed across the block in Paris as part of the Artcurial auction, held in partnership with France's famed Retromobile show. The show has been delayed to June, however. There's a 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, one of 20 Evo II models that helped the company achieve two championships in Group B's short run. This particular example was driven by world champion Timo Salonen at the 1986 Swedish Rally, where it finished seventh due to an oil filter seal failure. Bruno Saby subsequently drove it at the 1986 Tour de Corse and Peugeot entered it at the 1986 Acropolis Rally as well. It's still registered to Peugeot Talbot Sport and represents a French technological achievement, according to Artcurial, comparable to the Concorde or TGV train. Representing Italy are a pair of Lancias in the iconic Martini livery. The Lancia 037 helped Bel Paese clinch its only Group B victory in 1983, after a hard-fought rivalry with Audi. It's one of the few Group B cars that weren't AWD, achieving its success the old-fashioned way, through lightness and superb handling. A second Lancia, a 1986 Delta S4, was the culmination of the Italian firm's later Group B efforts and one of Saby's favorites. While Group B was no more in 1987, the S4 was the predecessor to the Delta Integrale that would dominate WRC from 1987 through 1992. While the collection also includes greats like a Ford RS200, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, and MG Metro 6R4, the centerpiece is the Audi Quattro Sport S1. The ultimate Group B machine, it introduced all-wheel-drive and turbocharging to the sport. It also employed the wildest use of wings and air dams to generate downforce. Tunable up to 590 horsepower, it could rocket to 60 mph in about three seconds. The car offered for sale came straight from Ingolstadt, a 1988 model built for the Race of Champions of ex-Group B cars. The collection was amassed in the late 80s and early 90s, not long after Group B's dissolution.
