RARE 1964 RANCHERO:  FACTORY 260 V8 / 4-SPEED / SPOTLIGHT

This is a ONE of a KIND Rare Ranchero, the only known existing 1964 Ranchero,  possibly the only 1964 Ranchero ever produced that is a Factory V8 / 4-speed Ranchero with the rare drivers side Spotlight/Mirror  … a custom order option rarely seen on any Ranchero!     … and to make this 64 Ranchero even more unique… it was a custom order DSO with NO Paint Code on the DATA Plate. This Ranchero also came as a unique base model, no side trims or tail marker trims or hood ornament… no holes ever drilled!  Another rarely selected option this Ranchero has are the back-up lights built into the rear tail lights.

THIS IS A ONE-OF-ONE, ...POSSIBLY THE RAREST 1964 RANCHERO V8 ever produced!

HISTORY: The DATA Plate & VIN Decode show this car was built in San Jose for DSO 51; DENVER Colorado. It has the DSO Number 51-0289. I have included the DATA Plate photo, and you can clearly see the blank spot where the Color Code would have been stamped. In restoration of this rare Ranchero, we went down to bare metal, and pulled the carpet  & interior out. The original base color we found was a darker blue- green, not a normal Ford line color. Since this was such a rare car, we wanted to do it honor by selecting a beautiful Show Quality 1964 FORD Color, deep Pacific Blue Metallic in quality 2-stage paint with clear coat. This color also was appropriate as this rust free Ranchero has spent most of its life in the San Diego area of California, close to the Pacific Ocean.

FRAME-ON RESTORATIONS: Time was taken to also paint all interior dash, side window molding & trims, back seat window trim, etc, in the matching Pacific Blue Metallic color. The driver’s side floor pan had a weak spot from water collecting under the drivers feet over the years… so we professionally had a new OEM stamped, molded steel pan fully welded & sealed into place. I have photos available to show the high quality of work that went into the restoration. New OEM style 80/20 loop carpet, with padding, special designed for the 4-speed model  Ranchero only was put into the car. The seat was professionally redone by a noted show quality shop, in 2-toned & deep textured black with silver accents. The headliner was done in matching black, and the car received all new black sun visors, sill plates & door panels. We used the nicer upgraded chrome trim Fairlane armrests. When the car was taken down to metal, it was clear to see that this rare option Ranchero had never been drilled out for side trims. It does sport the fender 260-V8 markers. Bumpers front and back were triple chromed to show quality. I located NOS tail light lenses with the reverse lights and hard to find NOS tail bucket rubber gaskets. The bed was brushed down, but left as is as all metal was solid. Many items were left as is and original such as the rear Steer Emblem on the tailgate. Since this Ranchero is so clean without lots of ornaments, we chose to paint out the side trim to match the bed and keep the lines of this Ranchero flowing. We wanted the rare chrome spotlight option to also stand out and be noticed! I have been told that there are less than a few hundred, maybe even only a hundred or so V8 with 4-speed Rancheros that even remain today. There is NO OTHER 1964 Ranchero  even known to exist, having the Rare Spotlight & build options that you find here.

MECHANICAL: I have all of the paperwork on the prior full rebuild of the factory & correct date/number production matching 260 V8. Ranchero REAR AXLE 3.25 to 1. NOTES & RECEIPTS show V-8 was fully re-done less than 10,000 miles ago, with full rebuild including rings, heads, etc…professionally done from bottom end up and SIMS test of 63 lbs. Oil Pressure, Oil Flow rate 27 & Compression of 160. New Elgin PRO-STOCK 351 Cam installed. The engine has a vintage WIEAND dual plane Aluminum Intake Manifold and a rebuilt vintage Ford Holley HP 4V carb; (noted: Peformer 289-Holey 4845) The distributor was custom curved, electronic Perlux Ignitor, Jacobs Wires & Jacobs Coil. HEADERS are installed on the car, out through a free flow dual exhaust system. Engine has been professionally dressed in Ford Racing polished aluminum finned valve covers & polished aluminum air cleaner with full breathing & cleanable air filter. Newer radiator, new battery, new hoses, belts, etc.  Newer GT Radial Tires 215/60 15. Car comes with a matching all new aluminum wheel & tire to the nice 15” set now on the car.

How the Ram Multifunction Tailgate compares to Ford, GMC, Honda

Wed, Feb 6 2019

Ram just announced its Multifunction Tailgate — a descriptive if not very creative name. It's an asymmetrical barn-door arrangement, which can both fold down like a conventional tailgate or swing open like a gate. There's a new bed step, but unlike Ford or GM, the step isn't part of the tailgate itself. Rather, it kicks out from under the bumper (as opposed to out from under the driver's side of the rear bumper in its previous incarnation). So let's just focus on the tailgate functionality. A video of the Ram Multifunction Tailgate in action is above. For one, either of the swinging tailgate sections can be opened independently. They open to a full 88 degrees. In conventional flip-down mode, the tailgate works just like a normal one, too, with a 2,000-pound rating. The bottom line is that while it gives a variety of types of access to the load area, it doesn't "do" anything else. It's a $995 option on any Ram 1500. Its closest analogue is the Honda Ridgeline, which works basically the same way, but on that truck the tailgate swings as one piece. And the Honda's load rating isn't as hefty as the Ram's tailgate: 300 pounds. As Honda says, that's sufficient to hold the weight of the part of an ATV hanging out of the bed, or something similar, but it's a lighter-duty unit (and a lighter-duty truck) than the Ram's overall. Let's also get Ford's one-trick tailgate out of the way before comparing to the more analogous, and complicated, GM MultiPro. A bit of trivia: Ford's optional Tailgate Step is actually designed and supplied by Multimatic, better known as the outfit that builds the Ford GT and produces the DSSV spool-valve shocks. This step has been available for years. It pulls out of the top edge of the tailgate when the tailgate is lowered, deploying a single step. A separate handle pulls out from beside the step and flips up, giving a handhold. While it was initially (and infamously) mocked by competitors, with load floor heights as high as they are it's better than toting around a stepstool. It's currently a $375 standalone option. Now we get to the GMC MultiPro tailgate, the most complicated and multi-functioned around. It's essentially a tailgate within a tailgate, with a fold-out stopper that deploys from the inner tailgate. This gives it several functions depending on the position of all the parts. It can still be used like a normal tailgate, dropping down at the push of a button or using the key fob.

Ford announces four recalls, 1.4M vehicles affected

Thu, 29 May 2014

Ford is taking a bit of the spotlight away from General Motors, announcing a major group of recall campaigns, covering a total of 1.4 million vehicles built between 2006 and 2013.
Let's start with the big one, which covers the Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner and, according to The Detroit News, Ford-built Mazda Tribute CUVs. 915,216 vehicles are covered, all of which were built in model years 2008 to 2011. 736,000 vehicles are in the US, while Canada then Mexico make up the vast majority of the remainder. The problem is due to an issue with the torque sensor in the steering column, which could lead to sudden power steering failure. Manual steering would still be available, though.
"Dealers will perform one of three service fixes, depending upon what diagnostic codes are shown when the vehicle is taken to the dealer," Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker wrote to Autoblog in an email. "They will either update software for the power steering control module and the instrument cluster module; replace the torque sensor; or replace the steering column, which includes upgraded power steering control module software."
