SOLD AS-IS, WHERE IS I live in Northwest Indiana, 36 miles south east of Chicago, just off of interstate I-80.
If you have questions, ASK! Up for
sale is my dad's 1980 Ford Fairmont 2 door sedan with a clear Indiana title. The car was purchased my by dad in 2003, in
pretty much the same condition as it is now, literally from the old lady across
the street who bought it new. My dad has
put probably 4000 miles on since he had it.
This was his second car intended for restoration, but never got around to
it. Car only has 62,7XX original
miles. The car has been sitting for the
last two years. Cars runs
and drives. Motor sounds great. Smooth and quiet (even with 2 year old
gas). Since its been sitting so long, it
does have small amount of light blue smoke when it is first started, but goes
away in a few seconds. Transmission
shifts as it should, brakes work, windows work, radio works, all lights work,
heater works, gauges work (clock works when it wants to), wipers work, AC
worked before it was parked. The valve
cover gasket leaks slightly (not much) may need to be tightened, it was
replaced a few years ago. No other
leaks. Before it
was parked, we installed a new water pump, had new steel brake lines installed,
new gas tank, straps, new exhaust. The tires
are just decent and would need to be replaced at some point (uneven wear in
front). Vinyl top has seen better days. To be
honest, it is difficult to find body parts for these cars up north in wrecking
yards. There are so many of these cars
out west and down south to get parts.
This car would make a good restoration project. the body is the same Ford "FOX"
platform the Mustang used. I am not sure
of the condition of the underside. It is
difficult to take pictures from underneath and the car so no insurance to drive
it somewhere to put it on a lift. THE
GOOD - Good
Motor - Good
Transmission - Passed
emissions - Good Hood
(missing hood ornament) - Good Trunk Lid - Good
Lenses/Lights - Good
Interior - All good
glass (windows roll up/down - New
exhaust, brake lines, water pump, gas tank - All four matching hub caps - No bad interior smells - Has all keys - Clear Indiana Title THE NOT
SO GOOD Blame the
salt used up north in the winter on the rust.
The car looks like it has more rust, he went over the surface rust with
some brown paint to try and stop the rust further, I don't know why. - Fenders
are shot - Doors
aren't too bad, surface rust on bottom (doors open close properly lock/unlock - Quarter panels have some rust and some very small holes, but salvageable - Rocker panels are bad
- The right rear bumper guard fell off - Some
play in the steering - No spare tire
or jack. The car is drivable, that's up to you. Would it make it 20 miles? Would it go 2000 miles? In my opinion, probably. **

Why 2015 is going to be a huge year for trucks
Thu, Jan 22 2015Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn took center stage to introduce the 2016 Titan last week at the Detroit Auto Show. He spoke of the truck's new features, impressive Cummins V8 diesel engine and the extensive amount of time and money required to build a modern, competitive pickup truck. "We have done all of this because we see opportunity – an opportunity in the unmet needs of today's American truck customers," Ghosn said. He was speaking about the Titan, but his thoughts echo the industry's mindset: When it comes to trucks, find an opportunity and attack. Even with CAFE regulations looming and fickle consumer preferences, investing in trucks is a no-brainer for automakers. Some consumers will always need a truck for their job or lifestyle. And some people will always want one, whether they need it or not. With that in mind, here are four reasons why the pickup-truck sector is more important than ever and poised for growth in 2015. View 24 Photos The Nissan Titan Is Back Okay, it never left, but the Titan hadn't been redesigned since its launch in 2003, and Nissan sold more NV200s than Titans in 2014. It's an understatement to say the truck was languishing. That all changes with the 2016 model. The Titan will come in two variants, a traditional fullsize competitor and the Titan XD. The XD will lead the market launch, and it arrives late this year. It's pitched as a "whitespace" offering, Nissan sales and marketing vice president Fred Diaz said. The idea is to offer something in the general size and price range of a fullsize truck, but also have some of the capability of a heavy-duty truck. The XD uses a fully boxed ladder frame, the chassis design from Nissan's commercial division, and the wheelbase is about 20 inches longer than other Titan models. The XD, which Nissan is calling the flagship of the line, will be the only model with the 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V8. It produces 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, while being able to tow 12,000 pounds. V6 and V8 gasoline models will also be offered on the Titan XD and the standard, non-XD model. When production ramps up, the Titan will be sold with several cabs, beds and trims. New features include trailer sway control, an integrated trailer brake controller, more storage options in the cabin and even laminated front and rear side glass to reduce outside noise. All of this has given Nissan fresh confidence in an area where it admittedly has been lacking. "We can compete," Diaz told Autoblog.
Chicago Auto Show: The really big reveals from shows past
Fri, Feb 9 2024The 2024 Chicago Auto Show may seem like a shell of its former self, but it still holds the title of the largest consumer auto show in the United States. It didn't get that reputation simply by being efficiently produced or convenient for locals desperate for something to do in February — it earned it over decades of breaking automotive news and powerhouse reveals, eventually earning an informal designation as America's truck show. 2024 may be a down year for Chicago, but let's not forget all of the great things that have come out of it, historically. Here's a look at some of our staff favorites. Bet you didn't know about a few of these cars that were first revealed in the Windy City.  2008 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 I didn't just pick this one as a former Challenger owner, but instead to illustrate just how many cool Chicago debuts we take for granted. Chrysler often chose its home turf to debut new cars, so the few times its unveilings happened elsewhere tend to stick in our minds. The first Challenger SRT-8 was kind of garbage, if we're being honest. I mean, who buys a race-bred, V8-powered muscle car without a limited-slip differential? But the SRT-8 formula evolved over time into something truly special, and what we saw in Chicago was essentially the early version of the Scat Pack, which was ultimately very successful for Dodge. And who would have thought we'd be here, 15 years later, still talking about that debut? And still loving these big Mopars, flaws and all. — Associate Editor Byron Hurd SHO time in Chicago IÂ’ll always have a certain fondness for the return of the Taurus SHO at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show. Chicago has always leaned truck and van heavy for press reveals, but every now and then, as this list illustrates, something spicy would appear. The return of the SHO as a high-powered successor to the original that ran from 1989-1999 gave enthusiasts hope for FordÂ’s performance business, especially for sedans. With a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 packing 365 hp, all-wheel drive and five-spoke wheels, the SHO was a nice upgrade from the lower-rung Taurus models. It was a bit more sedate than the original SHOÂ’s Yamaha-sourced V6 that teamed with a five-speed manual transmission, but still a worthy response to the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and later the Chevy SS. The SHO — Super High Output — begat things like the Fusion ST and gave Ford solid four-door performance for the rest of the decade.
This is what a 3D-printed liquid metal Ford Torino looks like
Sat, 12 Oct 2013Artist Ioan Florea has encapsulated a 1971 Ford Torino with 3-D-printed liquid metal transferred onto the car using technology that he developed, and the result is a stunningly shiny, seamless design.
"The surface has the highest coefficient of reflectivity never achieved before," Florea told us in an e-mail, using "nano-materials and nano-pigments that create an internal three-dimensional structure and dictate the polymer how to behave." Sure... We'll leave it to him to make any more 3-D-printed liquid metal-transferred art pieces.
Florea grew up in Romania, and the motivation behind picking the old Ford as his canvas came from his childhood memories of what an American car is - "big and wide and fascinating," he says - and the European name of the car itself, which it shares with an Italian city.
