Up for grabs here is a wonderful truck that's been one of the most reliable and useful (not to mention rugged and powerful) vehicles I've ever owned - a 1995 Ford F350 XLT 4x4 Crew Cab truck with the legendary 7.5L (460 cu. in.) gas V8 engine. With only 88K original miles this truck runs like a top and is barely broken in. I would trust it to go anywhere, and with regular maintenance and care it will last nearly forever. It's a classic, tried-and-true, hard-working truck at a mere fraction of the cost of a brand new monster F350 (and for my money I'd rather own this truck any day!) This truck is immaculate and in flat-out amazing condition for a vehicle approaching 20 years old if you're looking for a classic, old-school Ford truck this may be the one for you. You'll have to search long and far to find one as nice! I apologize in advance for the wordiness, but there's a lot to say about this one so grab a cup of coffee and read on! When you're ready, please also review the more than 150 additional photos here: CLICK HERE TO VIEW ADDITIONAL PHOTOS OPTIONS AND EXTRAS INCLUDE: Air Conditioning (serviced in August 2013 and blowing ice cold) 4x4 with factory auto-lockling hubs ABS brakes Power Steering and cruise control Power windows, locks, and mirrors Keyless entry with security system Sony stereo with remote control and auxiliary iPod input Tekonsha trailer brake controller Bumper mount and fold-down gooseneck hitches Fog lights and cargo light Aftermarket backup camera Ranch Hand heavy-duty front bumper/grill guard, rear bumper, and headache rack Dual fuel tanks Husky liners all-weather floor mats Duraliner bed liner and probably a bunch of other things I've forgotten to mention! HISTORY I've owned this truck for about 5-6 years now, and bought it with 63K on the odometer if I recall correctly. It's been my personal vehicle (never used commercially) and I've used it mostly for occasionally towing camp trailers and hauling vintage motorcycles and, in all honesty, it's overkill for what I've used it forit tows the small trailers I've had like they're not even there. However, it was just too nice of a truck to pass up and I've been nothing but happy with it. It was traded in at a leasing company in Dallas and if I recall correctly from the carfax it had always been a Texas truck. (I have since spent a couple years in Virginia with it, but it's now happily back in the Lone Star state.) It remains 100% rust free as one would expect from a Texas truck. My only reason for selling is that I just don't foresee having a use for a truck this size in the near future - I'm living in town, no longer pulling a trailer very often, and it doesn't seem right to just leave this great truck sitting idle and unused. MECHANICAL The truck is driven frequently and is ready to drive anywhere you'd like to take it - I wouldn't hesitate to take it cross-country tomorrow. It's been a completely reliable vehicle for me. It made a trip from Texas to Connecticut and back in April (towing an approx. 4000 lb camp trailer on the return trip) with no problems or issues. It starts right up in any weather without hesitation and without any smoking or difficulty. It has recently passed the very stringent Austin metro emissions tests with flying colors. The engine is smooth, powerful, and idles well. It accelerates without any hesitation or missing. The transmission and four wheel drive operate exactly as they should. The cruise control works as it should, too, and all power locks are working as they should never had any problems! The engine compartment is clean and shows original components throughout. Please note that I haven't detailed the engine or done anything to the truck beyond a wash and a vacuum this is just how it looks! And as nice as the photos are, I think it looks even better in person. A true detail job would make it look absolutely fantastic I'm sure. A couple of things worth mentioning: first, the rear power windows have begun to slip a bit when powering up. The motors are working fine, but I expect the plastic gears have worn and will need to be replaced. Second, this truck has always had a slight ticking (and I do mean *very* slight) when it first starts up which goes away after about 15 seconds or so as the engine warms up. There are no other problems accompanying this (oil pressure is fine, and there's no smoke or poor running) and it has done this for as long as I've owned the truck. It hasn't gotten better or worse and I don't consider it a huge problem, but I did want to be sure to mention it. INTERIOR The interior of the truck is definitely one of its strong points. It is clean, comfortable, and in excellent condition without any odors, dirt, or other unpleasantness. My wife even likes driving it, and she's absolutely fastidious about keeping her cars clean! Carpets and upholstery are an attractive, neutral gray and are very, very clean throughout. No signs of any dogs or other pets. There's some slight wear to the driver's side seat (as shown in the photos) but no tears or rips anywhere. There's also a very slight crack on the dash pad (maybe 1/3" or so) which is also pictured. This could be replaced inexpensively if desired, but it's never really bothered me. Ashtrays are unused, and there's no sign that it has ever been smoked in. There's some light degradation to the steering wheel along the top due to exposure from the sun (Texas sun is harsh!) that's visible in the photos. It could be repaired at an upholstery shop if desired, but it's quite minor, and has never bothered me enough to warrant a repair it's just slightly rougher in texture than the other areas of the steering wheel. BODY/PAINT The exterior of the truck is exceptionally clean and its original white paint still gleams beautifullyit looks absolutely great. The Ranch Hand exterior accessories (heavy duty front bumper/grill protector, rear bumper, and headache rack) are a great feature, too ... a true Texas ranch accessory that would set you back more than $4,000.00. There are no dents or problems to mention, only the various few light scratches here and there from age and use, but FAR less than one would expect. For its age, the paint is in amazingly good condition as the photos attest (and it's worth noting that I didn't even wax this truck for these photos - just a quick hand wash!) The worst area of wear is on the lower front driver's side, where shoes and boots have rubbed the paint a bit from getting in and out of the truck over the years. Please see the photos. Again, nothing substantial, but it does bear mentioning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're reading this, chances are you know all about this classic era of F-Series trucks (and the old square body style that ended for the F350s in 1997, just two years after this '95 model) and understand how hard it is to find a truck of this vintage that hasn't been worked to death and run into the ground. They just don't come around that often. It's not perfect by any means and I've tried to fairly describe its flaws as I see them, but it's also as nice a truck of this age as I've EVER seen and I'll miss it dearly. I believe its new owner will be very, very happy with it I've been on ebay for close to fifteen years and have sold many cars and vintage motorcycles and have never had an unhappy buyer yet! Please review the photos closely, ask any and all questions and I'll do my best to answer promptly and honestly. Serious inquiries can reach me by phone at 512-484-3186 between 9am-5pm CST. Vehicle has a clear Texas title in my name, ready to be transferred to its new owner. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TERMS AND CONDITIONS A nonrefundable paypal deposit of $500 is due within 24 hours of auction's end to hold your purchase. Full payment is expected within 72 hours of auction's end by either certified check drawn on US bank, wire transfer, or cash in person. Pickup is expected within 7 days. How the Ford Shelby Mustang came to be
Fri, 20 Sep 2013Even as rumors swirl that the next-generation of high-performance Ford Mustang will drop the Shelby name, Ford has released a short video telling how the legend of the Shelby Mustang came to be. In its latest installment of its video series entitled Mustang Countdown, Ford dug up some footage from Carroll Shelby to give a little insight into how this automotive icon was created.
While it's definitely interesting to hear the late legend tell the story in his own words (including numerous references to the 1964 Mustang as a "secretary's car"), it's also pretty funny learning exactly how the Shelby GT350 got its name in the first place - a name allegedly making a comeback as the replacement for the current Shelby GT500. As development work continues on the 2015 Ford Mustang, the Shelby video posted below shows that the automaker is always looking at its past - even as it looks ahead to the future.
Ram 1500 bests new F-150 in MT pickup shootout
Tue, Nov 25 2014Ford's 2015 Ford F-150 is a technological tour-de-force, what with its aluminum-intensive construction and its powerful and efficient new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine option. But now that it's hit the market, it's time to get down to brass tacks and find out how just the latest F-150 actually stands up to its rivals in the hyper-competitive fullsize segment. Motor Trend is among the first to round up the Ford (in Lariat 2.7-liter 4X4 guise here) and put it up against the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel 4x4 and 5.3-liter-equipped Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 to find out how Dearborn's new-think truck measures up. The test put the trio through over 1,000 miles of tough driving in California and Arizona in a variety of conditions from just cruising around unladen to hauling a trailer. MT found all three trucks to be competent, but the most praise got heaped on the Ram and the Ford, with the Chevrolet falling a step behind its competitors in many tests. Among the Ford's most-liked features was its 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 that helped make the F-150 easily the quickest of the group, with some editors saying the engine felt about the same whether driving around with cargo in the bed or not. There was some minor turbo lag during acceleration while trailering, but that issue affected the Ram, too. The Ram's powertrain was lauded, as well. The EcoDiesel was torquey around town, and the 1500's combination of an eight-speed automatic and air suspension was judged to be the best of the lot. It was the most difficult to get into the bed, though. The Ram also won the fuel economy award by netting 20-miles-per-gallon city and 28-mpg highway in the test to beat its Environmental Protection Agency ratings of 19/27. The Ford's EcoBoost managed 17/22, one mpg off each from the EPA numbers, and using a lot of throttle really depleted its efficiency. As MT notes, however, it would take time for the diesel's mileage savings to pay off at the pump for these two trucks. In the end, the Ram just barely eked out the win, with the title partially earned because of "the Ford's unknown maintenance and aluminum repair costs," according to MT. Go check out the full comparison to read all of the details, then let us know what you think in Comments.
The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid
Wed, Feb 18 2015Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
