Lincoln Continental production likely to shift to Flat Rock
Fri, Jun 12 2015Lincoln production may be returning to Michigan, according to a new report from Automotive News. While the brand's current big sedan, the MKS, is built alongside the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer, and their Police Interceptor counterparts at the Blue Oval's Chicago, IL factory, the production version of the Continental won't be screwed together in the Windy City. According to AN, "industry sources" claim the Continental will join the Ford Mustang and Ford Fusion – on which the big Lincoln is loosely based – at the company's Flat Rock, MI factory. The move isn't just based on convenience, though. Ford is selling a lot of Explorers, and shifting Lincoln production away from Chicago Assembly frees up production capacity for the popular SUV. "Chicago Assembly Plant is vital to our global manufacturing footprint and will continue to manufacture the Ford Taurus, Ford Explorer and Police Interceptor vehicles even after we phase out production of the MKS in 2016," Ford told Automotive News. "We will continue to match production to demand." Looking at the numbers further backs up the argument against Lincoln production in Chicago. Last year alone, Ford built nearly 285,000 Explorers and over 73,000 Taurus sedans, compared to just 8,300 Lincolns. Finally, as AN tells it, Ford is almost telegraphing the Continental's arrival in Flat Rock. The facility has a four-week shut down scheduled from June 15 through July 13, which is twice as long as the typical summer vacation, while there's another two weeks off slated for September. Bill Ford wins National Pond Hockey Championship with employees
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Who says executives aren't people? This past weekend, Bill Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company, and a group of employees trekked up to Eagle River, WI for a few games of pond hockey. Team Ford took part in the 2014 Labatt Blue/USA Pond Hockey Championship, capturing its fifth title in the 50+ Tier 1 Division.
"It feels great to win," Ford, who plays on the team alongside other Ford employees, told the USA Hockey website. "It was fun to play [River Valley Pioneers] because they're great guys and we play them every year. We finally beat them, which we were due. It was a very clean game, a tough game."
The FoMoCo team managed to score seven goals to River Valley's two, and went undefeated in all five of its games during the tourney. Take a look below for the official press release on Team Ford's win.
2016 Ford F-150 Limited 4x4 to start at nearly $62,000
Tue, Sep 15 2015The starting price of the top-of-the-line Ford F-150 has crested the $60,000 mark. This was, to be entirely honest, a long time coming, as consumers have shown a willingness to gobble up increasingly lavish pickups over the past five to ten years. According to Cars Direct, the four-wheel-drive-equipped 2016 F-150 Limited rings up at $61,905, or just $15 less than Ford's previous range-topping luxury model, the Lincoln Navigator. Of course, you can get a cheaper Limited if you really needed to. Opting for just rear-wheel drive will lower the price to $58,480. Not only do these figures eclipse the price of any other F-150 before them, they easily exceed the starting figures of competitive luxury pickups. The previous top-of-the-line, F-150 starts at just $52,780, while the two-wheel-drive competitors from GMC, Chevrolet, and Ram – the Sierra Denali, Silveardo High Country, and 1500 Limited – start at $51,210, $49,810, and $51,870, respectively. The new F-150 model adds plenty of bling – there's "LIMITED" lettering on the hood and big, bold, 22-inch wheels – along with power running boards, a panoramic roof, heated/cooled/massaging Mojave leather seats, blind-spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera.
