You are looking at our beautiful 1979 Ford F150 Custom full size pickup truck.  It features the classic bulletproof Ford straight six engine, 8' bed, bench seat, and manual transmission.  Its been a great farm/town truck for us for the past 17 years, and all that time we have treated it well.  Its been regularly maintained, and always kept under shelter.  Though we've used it regularly, we haven't abused it, and have averaged just over 1,000 miles a year on it.  Its been kept in the stock configuration, so this would be perfect for someone that wants a dependable classic ford, or someone that wants an untainted base for a restoration project.

Take a look at the photos for the great condition of the truck.  There are plenty of minor dings and scratches, but nothing major.  Biggest rust spots can be seen above the drivers door and by the drivers marker light.  I used a bed mat as long as I've had it, but note the bed has plenty of surface rust - easy to paint a bedliner over or put an insert on top of.  Based on this, I'm not claiming its a showroom restoration, but its an honest strong truck that's been used as expected.  Examine the photos and make the determination if this is the one for you.

It also comes with full size spare attached under the bed, jack under the hood, and new seat cover over the bench seat.  There was a little tearing on the seat so I put that on to protect it and make it look better.  In terms of little details you should be aware of note that its manual transmission, so be comfortable with a truck tranny and be sure that's what you're expecting.  There is a piece of material covering up a crack in the passenger side dash, and a small hole drilled into the plastic of the driver's door.  There is some smoke when starting, especially if its been sitting, but that goes away, and I don't really need to add coolant or oil.  I check each about every season and top off as necessary.  Sometimes it wants to rev when the clutch is in, but it returns to normal when gear is engaged.  Likely the throttle cable spring.

I have a log of its service history, which I'll include, along with a small library of manuals that go along with this model, including the excellent Robert Bentley publishers Ford F-Series Pickup Owners Bible.  If you like to tinker on your cars, you'll have everything you need to go to work.  Comes with original Ford Owners Guide too!

In terms of the engine and running of the vehicle, its always been very dependable.  Easy starting, and I take it on the highway regularly - its happy doing 65 no problem.  Just had two new front tires put on, and did a front-end alignment while they were at it, so it drives good and straight.   In Virginia you don't have to inspect antique vehicles, but I just tested all lights and they're good, and I'll try to take it in for inspection this week to confirm it will pass.  Dual gas tanks, and locking caps are included for each tank.  I also have plenty of keys floating around, so I'll gather those so you'll have a few sets right off the bat.

I have a clear title ready to sign over, and can hand the vehicle over the weekend after the auction ends, probably starting on Friday morning, August 8th.  If you'd like to ship it, I can work with your service, assuming payment it made before sending.  And if you pay in full, I'm happy to keep it safe here, within reason, until you can arrange for shipping or pick up.  I also might be able to drive it to meet you somewhere convenient - i.e. train station, etc. for a small fee.  $500 non-refundable deposit due within 48h of winning auction.  We're in zip code 22567.

Good luck to everyone, and feel free to ask any questions - I'll be adding details as I think of them and will update the listing accordingly.  Thank you!

Update: just wanted to let everyone know I took it in for inspection this morning here in VA, and it passed with flying colors, so keep that in mind.  Also, the mileage was at 99,921 when I took the photos, but I'm still driving it around a little, so it will probably be just over 100k at auction end.  Odometer and speedometer both work fine.  Thank you.

Update 3: Someone asked about the clutch, and I just checked my records and we put in a new clutch (along with pressure plate and bearings) just under 4,000 miles ago, and its been fine ever since. When we had the new clutch put in, we also put in a new power steering pump and carburetor, along with the rear main oil seal, so keep in mind all those parts are new and working great.

Update 4: In response to a question about the gearing, its a classic four on the floor transmission - see photo of shifter below. Reverse is over and up, and first is up, so you have to get a feel for where they like to engage, but with the new clutch, shifting is easy. Also, you'll notice in the photo I put in a 12v cigarette lighter in the proper location, so you're good to go if you smoke and/or want to power your 12v accessories. Thank you.

Ford, Stellantis workers join those at GM in ratifying contract that ended UAW strikes

Mon, Nov 20 2023

DETROIT — The United Auto Workers union overwhelmingly ratified new contracts with Ford and Stellantis, that along with a similar deal with General Motors will raise pay across the industry, force automakers to absorb higher costs and help reshape the auto business as it shifts away from gasoline-fueled vehicles. Workers at Stellantis, the maker of Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles, voted 68.8% in favor of the deal. Their approval brought to a close a contentious labor dispute that included name-calling and a series of punishing strikes that imposed high costs on the companies and led to significant gains in pay and benefits for UAW workers. The deal at Stellantis passed by a roughly 10,000 vote margin, with ballot counts ending Saturday afternoon. Workers at Ford voted 69.3% in favor of the pact, which passed with nearly a 15,000-vote margin in balloting that ended early Saturday. Earlier this week, GM workers narrowly approved a similar contract. The agreements, which run through April 2028, will end contentious talks that began last summer and led to six-week-long strikes at all three automakers. Shawn Fain, the pugnacious new UAW leader, had branded the companies enemies of the UAW who were led by overpaid CEOs, declaring the days of union cooperation with the automakers were over. After summerlong negotiations failed to produce a deal, Fain kicked off strikes on Sept. 15 at one assembly plant at each company. The union later extended the strike to parts warehouses and other factories to try to intensify pressure on the automakers until tentative agreements were reached late in October. The new contract agreements were widely seen as a victory for the UAW. The companies agreed to dramatically raise pay for top-scale assembly plant workers, with increases and cost-of-living adjustments that would translate into 33% wage gains. Top assembly plant workers are to receive immediate 11% raises and will earn roughly $42 an hour when the contracts expire in April of 2028. Under the agreements, the automakers also ended many of the multiple tiers of wages they had used to pay different workers. They also agreed in principle to bring new electric-vehicle battery plants into the national union contract. This provision will give the UAW an opportunity to unionize the EV battery plants plants, which will represent a rising share of industry jobs in the years ahead.

Galpin Auto Sports and Fisker turn the Mustang into a Rocket in LA [w/video]

Thu, Nov 20 2014

Galpin Auto Sport and Henrik Fisker made big promises about the Rocket before its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show today, calling it the "ultimate American muscle car." Now that this 725-horsepower carbon-fiber Ford Mustang has officially been revealed, we've now got a chance to see if their vision backs up all the bluster. The Rocket is based off the latest 2015 Mustang, but the entire exterior design has been substantially reworked by Fisker. "This is a project born out of passion, it's a dream come true, to have the opportunity to 'touch' a Mustang and apply my design ideas to it," he says in the model's announcement. The biggest changes come up front, where Fisker has added a gaping hexagonal grille with a polished bar running and two nearly hidden driving lights at the top corners. Long nostrils run down each side of the hood, taking their inspiration from the 1968 Shelby GT500. The Rocket's design also emphasizes its scalloped sides, which run back to functional ducts at the rear to cool the Brembo Grand Turismo brakes. When checking out the Rocket from the rear, it's easy to spot the wider fenders that are beautifully blended into the integrated spoiler. The interior has been left mostly alone beyond some eye-grabbing red leather and carbon-fiber trim. Under the hood, Galpin spokesperson Nathan Hoyt has confirmed to Autoblog that the Rocket employs a 5.0-liter V8 with a Whipple supercharger which can be called to attention with a six-speed manual gearbox. It took only a few months for the vehicle to go from conception to reality. Fisker showed Galpin President Beau Boeckmann early sketches at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and the two parties went from there. "When Henrik showed me his ideas, I got chills - it's literally the most beautiful Mustang I have ever seen," says Boeckmann in the company's release. Production is set to begin in December, with deliveries starting in early 2015. There's no set production total in mind for now, but Hoyt tells Autoblog that the price will be "just over $100,000." Scroll down to read all of the details about Fisker and Galpin's Rocket.

Ford Mustang SVT caught looking fierce on the 'Ring

Tue, 15 Jul 2014

The next-generation Ford Mustang SVT is one of the most anticipated performance cars of the moment. We've already seen it testing multiple times, but it has always been covered is some very heavy camouflage. However, Ford has just given us our best view yet of the new muscle car. According to our spy photographer, the Mustang was at the Nürburgring for high-speed testing, which meant that the Blue Oval had to remove most of the heavy obfuscation that the SVT has worn previously.
The stylish, more revealing camo makes picking out some of the more interesting details about the SVT rather easy. Starting from the front, there is the big hood scoop to feed cold air to its still mysterious engine. You can also immediately make out the model's new grille and lower front air dam. It has a vertical piece running from the bottom of the hood all the way to the ground. The aggressive styling almost gives the 'Stang the look of two fangs ready to bite down. The hood seam is even taped off here, which shows us its outline.
Around the side, it appears that the front and rear fenders are wider than stock, and the sills are certainly much larger. You can also just make out the SVT's bigger brakes behind its black wheels with a polished lip. Finally, at the rear, things appear mostly stock other than the diffuser that the exhaust outlets nestle into.
