I am re-listing my 1961 Ford F-100 truck with a lowered reserve.

Here we have a 1961 Ford F-100 half ton pickup truck which was a former Air Force flight line truck, escorting aircraft on the flight line.  This is a very straight example of an early 60's Ford truck.  This truck has very little rust and the two areas of concern.  The two areas are below the small steps, on the leading edge of the rear fenders.  They are not visible from the top of the step, only from below.  The interior front cab corners have patches that look like professional repairs.  The other area of damage is the drivers door and the driver side front fender at the leading edge.  The photographs show these areas.  The remainder of the truck is extremely straight and rust free, including the frame.  There are no frame repairs, and the truck tracks straight.  The excellent patina is great if you want to drive the truck like it is.  All of the Air Force decals are in place on the outside and on the inside.  The truck starts very easily and runs well, no vibrations or stalling.  Directional signals and brake lights work, but the cancel switch for the directional signals should be replaced. The military radio does not work and is for display purposes only.  The radio has the control tower and other AF departments listed on the face of the radio.

I have completed the following work: the new headliner will be replaced by auction end, replaced sun visors, battery, battery cables, new battery hold down bracket, driver side arm rest, new Coker truck tires, sand blasted Ford wheels painted in the correct Air Force blue, installed excellent painted correct Ford hubcaps, new lug nuts on all four wheels, new reproduction rubber floor mat, new reproduction chrome outside mirror.  I have done some touch up painting on the body to add color to grey primer areas.  Included in the sale of this truck are four custom wheels and tires with over 50% tread remaining.  I have included a picture of the wheels and tires.  Also included are oak bed rails as shown in one of the photographs.  I have cleaned and detailed the engine compartment.

This truck runs excellent and stops well.  You can drive it right now.  The steering is somewhat hard at this point and I would recommend that the steering gear box be rebuilt or replaced.  The windshield has a small crack on the drivers side but it is not in the field of view.  In addition, there are a few rock chips in the glass, nothing serious.  The engine runs cool and the instruments work with the exception of the odometer.  It broke a couple of months ago so the mileage is slightly higher than 48,303.  Mileage appears to be original and mostly military miles.

This truck could be restored, customized, make a shop truck or rat rod it.  Very straight and easy restore.

Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding this truck.  My name is Arnie and I can be reached at (949) 573-1139.

The truck is currently licensed in CA and has no back DMV fees due.

A $500.00 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction close.  You may contact me to make final payment arrangements after the close of the auction.

Please note that I am only accepting US bidders at this time, I am not set up to sell outside the country at this time.  There are no warranties expressed or implied on this vehicle.  The truck is being sold in "as is"; "where is" condition.

Transportation of this truck to the winning bidders location is the responsibility of the winner.  I can assist with the loading of the truck.

Thank you for looking at my auction and good luck.

Ford finds flex-fuel engine design plays big role in emissions output

Mon, Jan 6 2014

How bad is ethanol for your engine? There's been a lot of debate on this issue as the US considers upping the biofuel content in the national gasoline supply from 10 percent (E10) to 15 percent (E15). The ethanol industry and some scientists say higher ethanol blends show no "meaningful differences" in new engines while the oil industry says ethanol creates health risks. Researchers working at the Ford Research and Innovation Center decided to take a closer look at how a wide range of gas-ethanol blends - E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, E55 and E80 - affected the emissions coming out of a flex-fuel 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. To see the full report, printed in the journal Environmental Science & Technology, requires payment, but there is an abstract and Green Car Congress has some more details. The gist is that, "with increasing ethanol content in the fuel, the tailpipe emissions of ethanol, acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, methane, and ammonia increased." At least NOx and NMHC emissions decreased. The researchers say that the effects are due to the fuel and "are expected for all FFVs," but that the way that a manufacturer calibrates the engine will affect NOx, THC, and NMOG emissions. It's this last bit that's important, since the researchers found, "Higher ethanol content in gasoline affects several fundamental fuel properties that can impact emissions. ... These changes can have positive or negative effects that can depend on engine design, hardware, and control strategy. In addition to direct emissions impacts, higher ethanol content fuel can also provide more efficient combustion and overall engine operation under part-load conditions and under knock-limited higher-load conditions." So, as we head towards more ethanol in our fuel supply (maybe), manufacturers are going to need to learn how to burn it most efficiently.

Ford decides C-Max shoppers not interested in fuel economy

Sat, Oct 25 2014

If you say a car – the Ford C-Max Hybrid, for example – is "fun to drive," can anyone really come up with some empirical evidence against your claim? What about calling it "versatile"? We wonder if Ford has been thinking along these lines when it talks about the green little hatch. Ford is refocusing its sales strategy for the C-Max Hybrid after the model took a sales hit on both sides of the Atlantic recently, Automotive News reports. That sales dropoff may stem from the fact that Ford has had to revise its fuel-economy figures downward for the C-Max twice since last year, most recently in June. That made the company's once-proud fuel-economy comparisons with the Toyota Prius kind of pointless. Ford is going a different route, calling the model versatile (which, to be fair it was also doing a year ago), technologically advanced and fun to drive. Since the C-Max has about 50 more horsepower than the Prius, that last part may be true. Ford representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from AutoblogGreen about the mpg-mention-free advertising direction, but we will update this post if we hear back. Sales of the C-Max Hybrid have suffered in the US. Through September, Ford sold 15,245 C-Max Hybrids, down 36 percent from last year. We shall see if a new focus away from the car's lowered mpg numbers helps. At least Ford can be pleased with sales of the C-Max Energi Plug-in Hybrid, which are up 51 percent compared to 2013.

12 new cars that will never go out of style

Tue, Nov 23 2021

Some cars never go out of style. It’s rare, but it happens. They get old. They get depreciated. But they never stop looking cool.  Some might call them modern or instant classics. Within a few years theyÂ’re no longer the latest and greatest, no longer the flavor of the month, but they remain special. Eternally special. Timeless.  These cars arenÂ’t necessarily going to be worth a fortune someday. However, some may not depreciate as rapidly or as far as other models. But thatÂ’s not what weÂ’re talking about here. These are the cars that enthusiasts will always find desirable from the curbside. TheyÂ’re the cars you end up shopping on eBay late at night 10 years later because you canÂ’t get them out of your head. TheyÂ’re the cars that will forever excite you when you spot a clean one in traffic or in a parking lot.  There are plenty of recent examples over the past couple of decades that could count as instant design classics. But then we got to thinking, what 2021 models will be forever cool to stare at? Which new cars and trucks on sale today will we be shopping on eBay late at night in the 2030s? We kept supercars and other ultra-expensive cars off the list to keep things within the realm of attainability, and ended up with 12 total cars. Lexus LC WeÂ’re not applying a numerical ranking to any of the cars on this list, but if we were, the Lexus LC would be No. 1. There isnÂ’t another car design out there that can stir our emotions the way an LC can when itÂ’s just standing still. This car is a concept design come true in the most beautiful of ways, and itÂ’s a shoo-in winner for Concours events decades into the future. All of this heaping praise, and we havenÂ’t even gotten to the LC 500Â’s intoxicating 5.0-liter V8. It doesnÂ’t win drag races. It wonÂ’t be the fastest around the track against any similarly-priced competition. But none of that matters. ItÂ’s quite possibly the best car you can buy new, and that says it all when it comes to the LC. Chevrolet Corvette It might not be the stunner that the Lexus LC is, but the new C8 Corvette is and will always be a special vehicle. ItÂ’s the first mid-engine Corvette, which instantly cements it into an automotive hall of fame section of sorts. All of the performance stats and specs are there to back up its supercar-like looks, and it remains the best performance bargain on sale today.
