We have owned this pickup since 1985. Found it "forgotten" in a farmer's yard. We have done a total restoration, and then modernized it to make it safe at today's highway speeds.Started restoration by re and re'ing cab corner posts, and removing all damage and bondo and replacing with steel. Powered by a 1964 Thunderbird 390 cid, that has been totally rebuilt. Paired to a rebuilt C6 Tranny, with a B & M slap-stick shifter built in to a custom console, which is between bucket seats. The drive train is balanced, with new u-joints, and attached to a 9" Ford Rear end. Custom anti sway bars front and rear, and new power disc brakes on front (Corvette), with stock drums on rear. Dual exhaust with two flowmaster mufflers, with chrome tips. Flip down rear licence plate (with lites). Bed is custom made of spruce with marine varnish with stainless strips between planks. Rear of deck features stainless plate that house two LED turn/signal lites. Anyone who flashes their highbeams at me, get it right back in their own face from the pooilished stainless plate. Cab interior has black carpets. Bucket seats that are cloth...grey with teal insert to match exterior color scheme. Dash and interior painted same teal color as exterior, but roof, door panels and rear wall are covered in grey upholstrey material. Fuel tank that was originally inside the cab, behind the bench seat is "history."..made extra storage space for small suitcase for road trips. Replaced that stock interior tank with a new 25 gallon tank, placed between frame rails at rear of vehicle, with a hidden fuel filler cap. Shaved door handles. Shaved fuel filler cap. Keyless entry. Hidden mechanical passenger door release. Alarmed. Extra red warning lite on dash to signal alarm working. Air Horn which has own electric air compressor and tank under driver's side, also has regular electric horn.Flaming River Steering wheel. All new Dolphin Guages including tach. Milage starts at zero with total rebuild. This is a NEW 1960 Pickup, thus low, low mileage.  Exterior Sun Visor. Halogen headlites. Parking lites are wired to stay on when headlites are "on."  Mag wheels with radial tires.(80% tread remaining) Am/FM/CD Alpine system with frenched in power antenna. There is NO RUST or any damage or electrical issues. This pickup can be driven immediately, anywhere at highway speeds, and then some. We are selling it, and all of our other collector vehicles, as we are downsizing to a smaller home, with no garage/storage area. This is NOT a desperation sale. Have investered over 100-thousand dollars to make this a one-of-a kind-eye-candy vehicle, that will be worth more with each pasing year. There is nothing else needed to be done, except drive and enjoy.  Priced to sell at $42,500 firm.

Wed, Jan 19 2022

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability is subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze. Normally when we write about Omaze sweepstakes, they involve a car that you'd never go out and buy on your own. A six-figure camper van build, a $300,000 Ford Bronco restoration, a Land Rover Defender that's so beautiful it should be in a museum. Today's prize might beat out all of those, because not only could you win a dream car, you'll be entered for a chance to win $100k cash to go along with it.  There are a lot of cars you can buy with $100k. You could buy a Land Cruiser Heritage Edition or a Mustang GT500 or 6 Chevy Sparks and start your own racing series. Personally, if I won that kind of dough, assuming I also won this Bentley Bentayga, my favorite of Omaze's current offerings, I'd probably use some of it to buy something quirky, like a Honda Element converted into a pop-top camper, or a restored/upgraded 60 series Land Cruiser. Think that's a terrible way to spend the cash? That's the beauty of it. It is completely up to you. No one can tell you what to do with it. Except maybe your spouse.  Here are our favorite vehicle giveaways we’ve found online this week: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition - Enter at Omaze Regardless of what you think about Ford using the name Mustang for an electric crossover, one thing is for certain, the Mustang Mach-E GT is an impressive piece of machinery. White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.

‘American Auto’ fires on most cylinders

Tue, Dec 14 2021

If you like cars or you enjoyed “Superstore” then “American Auto” is worth your time. NBC previewed the punchy sitcom last night ahead of the series premiere Jan. 4, and it offers a humorous take on the U.S. auto industry as seen through the team at fictional Payne Motors. Overseen by Justin Spitzer, the creator of “Superstore” and a producer on “The Office,” the two episodes that dropped Monday show Payne executives trying to navigate the challenges of the modern auto business.  “Saturday Night Live” alum Ana Gasteyer stars as a pharmaceutical exec turned Payne CEO. The cast also includes Harriet Dyer as stressed-out PR boss, Sadie; Tye White as Jack, a factory worker who gets promoted to the C-suite; and former “Superstore” cast member Jon Barinholtz as the company scion, Wesley, who has no job responsibilities and is employed because of his name. The cast also includes X Mayo, Michael Benjamin Washington and Humphrey Ker as executives. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Autoblog -- thatÂ’s us -- gets name-checked early in the second episode (2:37 into the show) for "our" critical take on GasteyerÂ’s introduction of the Payne Ponderosa, a car the company scrambled to build in time for its auto show reveal.  GasteyerÂ’s CEO character walks in on a meeting between Sadie and Jack -- their budding romance appears to be part of the story arc -- and blurts out “Autoblog says hasty HastingsÂ’ premature launch,” apparently a reference to a headline that pans the Ponderosa. Looking at the cartoonish wagon-like thing, itÂ’s well-earned criticism. Perhaps the writers know of us -- weÂ’ve been around for nearly 18 years and are read by millions each month -- or thought ‘AutoblogÂ’ sounded like a good name for a car website. Either way. The pilot is centered on the Ponderosa and its troubled development (the first version of the car ran over people). Episode 2 features a Ponderosa Magellan van being used by a serial killer in a police chase. Titled “White Van,” the episode is obviously reminiscent of O.J. SimpsonÂ’s 1994 chase in a white Ford Bronco. ThereÂ’s also some Michigan references, which help to set the scene. One character has a Wayne State degree on the wall and the Magellan flees on Interstate 94, which runs through the state.
