Car Club USA: Mustang Alley
Thu, Sep 17 2015Car Club USA travels to metro Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise, where Ford fans descend upon on Mustang Alley, situated at 9 Mile and Woodward. While the cruise welcomes cars of all makes and models, Mustang Alley invites owners to show off their 'Stangs while commingling with the engineers and designers who created the iconic pony car. "We got very excited as we worked on the (original) model and it was competition among ourselves," said clay modeler Giuliano Zuccato who worked on the first generation Mustang. "This is going to be a very special car." Of course, no Mustang video is complete without some high-speed fun. For that, we head to nearby Waterford Hills Raceway where road course newbie Jeff Bayer looks to push his modified 2010 Mustang GT to the limit. "I've kind of babied the car a little bit," said Jeff. "And I decided after having it for five years it's time to put some hard laps on it." Will Jeff and his 430 horsepower pony make it back in one piece? Each Car Club USA episode features a different car club or event from across the US, where passionate owner communities gather to share automotive experiences and embark on incredible adventures. From Main Street cruises to off-road trails, catch all the latest car club activity on Autoblog. Ford to build Explorer in Russia to meet demand [w/video]
Fri, 12 Apr 2013The current Ford Explorer is sold in more than 64 countries, and this three-row vehicle continues to grow in popularity worldwide. To keep up with demand, Ford began producing the Explorer at Ford Sollers Elabuga Assembly Plant in Tatarstan, Russia, a joint venture facility. This partnership will build Russian-market Explorers only, and production of export vehicles not destined for Russian buyers will continue to be built at Ford's assembly plant in Chicago.
Before this plant went online, Ford would ship Explorers to Russia (and other regions around the world) as partially assembled knock-down units where final assembly would eventually take place. While there is no indication as to how many Explorers Ford Sollers will build for Russia, Ford did add that exports of the SUV were up 65 percent last year (from 2011) accounting for more than 24,000 units.
Scroll down for a press release about the Russian Explorer as well as a video (bad music and all) showing the SUV being produced in Tatarstan.
Ken Block ain't got a care about ruining his wheels
Tue, 22 Jan 2013During a drifting session at Irwindale Speedway in California, Ken Block made a boo-boo that would send a number of drivers immediately back to the infield. But there's an answer to "What do you do when you bash the wall while drifting and your wheel explodes?" and there's completely different answer when the question begins with the phrase, "When you're Ken Block..."
Instead of us telling you how Block handled the calamity in his Ford Fiesta competition car, you can watch it happen in the video below. You can probably also guess what it is - but it's more fun to watch.
