Up for auction is a 1988 Ford Bronco XLT Eddie Bauer Edition.  I do suspect the head gasket to be blown on this engine.  I had a heat spike on the way home from work one day, I came home, checked underneath the hood and saw that the reservoir was completely full and the cap had blown off.  After it cooled down, I checked the radiator and it was a little low on coolant.  It wasn't empty, but I could see the top of the coils.  I filled it up and checked the reservior, after a few minutes of running, I could see some bubbling coming from the reservoir.

I've checked the oil, it's as black as coffee still.  I'm not sure how bad the leak is in the gasket, it could use one of those head gasket treatments from an autoparts store and be fine.  Ever since I've seen the reservoir bubble, I have not ran the engine.  My wife and I are new parents, with jobs, and I don't have enough time to diagnose/fix this issue.

Newly replaced within the last 5,000 miles (since I bought it two years ago - we have not drove it that often):

New Stainless Steel Billet Grille (It will come with the original as well)
New brakes all around - New rotors/pads up front, new drums, slave cylinders, pads, springs, etc in rear.
New battery
New thermostat
New water pump
New coil
New ignition module
New fan clutch
New distributor cap
New ignition wires
New plugs
New Heater Core
New Fuel pump
New Fuel Filter

As you can see in the pictures, it has a soft top (and no, I do not have the original hard top for it).   It's a lot of fun to unzip the windows and and drive to the beach.  It does not leak whatsoever.  I have repaired a few spots where the stitching came un-done/needed reinforcement. The tires are 33 in Nitto Dune Grapplers.  They have some life left in them.   15in aftermarket rims also make the vehicle look good.   It has an aftermarket CD player and radio.   The A/C needs to be charged, but it is still functional.  The heat works great (even with the soft-top), however, the fan for it is VERY loud.  The floors have been painted in bed liner. The door jambs are rust free, as is the entire vehicle, minus the very front of the hood and the accents above the doors.

Everything that's wrong with the vehicle:

The head gasket issue (explained above)
I have keys for the steering column, but the key mech broke, so right now it just has a push start button that I've wired into the starter relay.
A few rips in the driver seat (which you'd expect from a slightly lifted truck)
Driver side door lock solenoid has gone bad.
Gear/shift indicator does not work (just needs a set screw)
The passenger side front wheel does not seem to engage in 4x4 (I can spin the wheel when it's off the ground with the hubs locked and the drive shaft does not turn.  Driver's side wheel does spin the shaft with hubs locked)
Rust on front of hood (pictured)
Passenger rear quarter panel does not match rest of Bronco
Tailgate handle does not work- you have to pull on latch cords to lower the gate.

It ran great until a week or so ago.   It was an extremely fun vehicle to drive around, I just don't have the time to mess with it anymore.  Feel free to ask me any and all questions you have regarding it.

Clean and clear title, which is in my name, in hand!

The white spots shown on the back window is just masking tape residue that can be removed with goo gone

2013 Ford Explorer Sport

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

When one speaks of sporty and fun-to-drive utility vehicles, few would put the Ford Explorer in the same category as the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne. Yet, with just a few reservations, I'd toss the new-for-2013 Ford Explorer Sport close to that arena for consideration.
As a recap, the sportiest of Explorers is fitted with Ford's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6, making 365 horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque. Acceleration is brisk (figure about 7 seconds to 60 miles per hour), as power goes to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Contributing to its more athletic demeanor are larger front brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, chassis upgrades, quicker steering ratio and a more aggressive wheel/tire package. Cosmetically, the Sport is distinguished by its blacked-out lights, black trim and noticeable lack of chrome (with the exception of the door handles).
Ford recently handed me the keys to a Ruby Red Metallic Explorer Sport. Rather than mindlessly drive the big seven-passenger all-wheel drive hauler in soccer mom circles around Los Angeles, I loaded up my family and embarked on a long weekend road trip to Yosemite National Park.

Ford readying dozen+ Mustang models for SEMA

Wed, 22 Oct 2014

Ford is unsurprisingly bringing a herd of its new 2015 Mustang models to next month's SEMA show in Las Vegas. Over a dozen of them are arriving from top aftermarket outfits like Galpin Auto Sports, Steeda, Roush and others. The Blue Oval isn't just shining a spotlight on the V8 model, though. The new EcoBoost 2.3-liter version with 310 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque is also getting its time in the sun.
Among the shined-up ponies will be a showcar helping Galpin celebrate the Mustang's golden anniversary, with the car is covered in the precious metal. The black paint over the body has gold flecks in it, and the wheels, side sills, brake calipers and badges all match, as well. However, it takes more than something shiny to truly impress at SEMA, and Galpin's Mustang also packs a Whipple supercharger for the 5.0-liter V8, boosting the bottom line to 725 horsepower. Take that, Hellcat. There's even a window in the hood to look through, not unlike a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The coupe also wears new headlights with LED turn signals that activate in sequence, just like the taillights, and the interior features black-and-gold Recaro seats.
Also set for its SEMA debut is an MRT showcar that takes the EcoBoost Mustang for a gallop with its TKO treatment. The black and orange two-tone car has been designed to incorporate select road racing elements. Mechanical upgrades include 14-inch brake rotors with new ducts, a Vortech air-to-air intercooler and an Air Lift suspension. The Mustang also shows off the company's products for added style and performance including a hood with integrated heat extractors and a unique front splitter.

Ford continues autonomous tech development

Sat, Jun 27 2015

Some of the autonomous-driving features that Ford offers in Europe will come to the United States as soon as next year. The Blue Oval will add the pre-collision assist and pedestrian detection technologies that it has already installed on the Mondeo sedan in Europe. Those features, part of what Ford calls the "second of three phases" in driverless technology, will be brought stateside in a yet-to-be disclosed model, while most of Ford's US vehicle line will have the features by 2019. It has been testing an automated Fusion for more than a year. Ford is looking to build upon the autonomous-vehicle technology that it already has on models such as the Fusion, Taurus, F-150, Edge, and Explorer. Those amenities include active-park assist, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. Ford said early last year that it was working with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University to develop algorithms for use in driverless cars. The effort is part of Ford's so-called "Blueprint for Mobility" geared toward autonomous driving features that are being developed over the next decade. FORD COLLABORATES WITH SILICON VALLEY INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM ON AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES, 3D PRINTING, WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY Autonomous vehicle technology is another step closer to production at Ford – moving from a research effort to an advanced engineering project Ford announces it is working with Silicon Valley-based 3D-printing firm Carbon3D to quickly produce high-quality automotive-grade parts Ford kicks off wearable technology development with MyFord® Mobile app extension – coming soon to smartwatches including Android Wear – providing customers the ability to check vehicle driving range, battery charge and more for their plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle quickly from their wrists Autonomous vehicle technology is another step closer to production at Ford, moving from a research effort to an advanced engineering program, the company announced today. Ford has appointed a director of autonomous vehicle development – 29-year Ford veteran Randy Visintainer – and created a global team to work on the advanced program. Ford Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto is working on the global Ford team to deliver the Ford Smart Mobility plan, which aims to take the company to the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience and big data.
