This is one Bad Ass 1960 Pro Street Ford Thuderbird. Nothing like it!
California/Florida Car with frame off restoration in 1993.

I purchased this very solid Pro Street Thunderbird in 2011 and it's been in my garage ever since (sadly never found the time to work on it!)
Sorry to see it go but too many projects and life is too short! 95% finished by prior owner (see below) or just service and drive as is....
Registered in FL as "TBIRD 60".

THE GOODS:
Original California car. San Fernando Valley. No rust to speak of (see below). Check out the pics. Nice n dry.
428 Cobra Jet engine - mild cam and less than 100 miles on it. Runs strong. Built by Chris Lafrene of Courtesy Chevrolet.
C6 transmission with shift kit and B&M console shifter for solid shifts by Craig Calkins master transmission mechanic. Shifts nice and quick like it should. High performance torque converter.
Pro Street Chassis was done by the former crew chief of the Budweiser land speed record rocket car, Kirk Swanson of Camarillo.
9'' ford Detroit locker posi with housing all welding up to handle 1000 horsepower
Super strong 4 bar rear suspension with Alden coil over shocks
Big ol' Tubs to handle the 18'' wide Pro Street tires
Big Fat Mickey Thompson 18'' wide Pro Street Tires that fill the well like an artists rendition (see below).
Rebuilt Power brake unit with rebuilt 70's ford Torino dual master cylinder and front disk brakes.
All built to handle existing engine with a 871 blower.
For safety- complete roll bar constructed with seamless, thick wall tubing and welded through body to frame extending into trunck area to surround the custom fuel cell.
Front and rear bumpers acid striped and painted to match body. Black front, charcoal back. Mean look. I'm talkin' MEAN! I've never seen a T-bird done this way.
Late model Acura Bucket seats for the look.
Replaced dash pad.
Cover console and all side trim with black German vinyl. Looks like factory black molding to keep with the theme.
Gauges, lights and clock working and all exterior lights working
Great chrome on the dash panel
Great chrome on the glove box door with new glove box inside.
Custom installed tilt and Telescoping column out of an Impala
New windshield
New mild tint side glass
New felting and windwing trim
Power windows
New headliner and visors with chrome brackets.
New Carpet
New LeCarra four spoke leather wrapped steering wheel

NEEDS (to be up front):
Good service and checkout (been sitting several years but regularly started and starts first time every time).
A few small bubble spots and a small quarter sized rust area near rear wheel arch that could do with touch-up (if desired) but body very straight and sound
Rear tires will need replacing a some point soon, fronts are good.
Seats have all been mounted but I'd reupholster them with the side panels.
This is an original A/C car but no compressor. If you plan on running the A/C while you're haulin' ass, you'll need to install a compressor and have it hooked up.
Never made the grill. Was going to go with stainless tubing. Or find an original.
Molding needs to be made that meets the dash to windshield.
Door weatherstripping. Just never got to it. Some new molding included.
Molding under back window is missing. Easy to find.

Will ship anywhere but you arrange the shipping (cost me $700 to ship from CA to FL in 2011)
As Is with no warranty. Can send more pics and details if needed.

A 1985 Ford Escort for $915,000? If it was owned by Princess Diana

Sun, Sep 3 2023

What makes a used car worth more than the car itself? If it was owned by John Lennon. Or Muhammad Ali. Michael Schumacher, perhaps, or Stirling Moss. This year’s edition from the Hagerty organization of its “Power List” makes for amusing reading even if youÂ’re not on it. But you can make believe that you are. Essentially, the list, which was launched only last year, tracks the impact of celebrity ownership of a vehicle on its value, as measured by its worth at auction. Nearly 400 sales of celebrity cars and bikes have been analyzed from around the world by Hagerty using market data and “expert” analytics. Hagerty is aware, certainly, that famous folks — from royalty, sports, movies and music — grab gobs of attention from ordinary people. ThatÂ’s why the 2023 Power List comprises these categories: Art Cars, Racing Drivers, Movies and TV, Musicians, Royalty, Screen Stars, Sporting Icons. But you don't have to be a rock star or a F1 pilot to get listed: Princess Diana, besides an Escort Turbo RS that she owned between 1985 and 1988, numbered a convertible 1994 Audi 80 Cabriolet and a Jaguar XJS Cabriolet among her rides. HereÂ’s a look at some of the more notable entries: Racing driver category: In pole position was an unlikely titleholder, a 1976 Ford Bronco. This was the car bought new by legendary Canadian Formula 1 driver Gilles Villeneuve and untouched since his death; it sold at the Aguttes auction in Paris last December for $148,000, a huge 210% increase over the $47,800 that Hagerty would value a regular example in the same condition. Just a note: The list doesnÂ’t include race cars, only vehicles kept privately by the drivers. Musicians: A 1974 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow had been Freddie MercuryÂ’s personal chauffeur-driven transport from 1979 until his death in 1991. Without celebrity ownership, Hagerty would value the Silver Shadow at a lowly $9,500, a car that would take a lot of time, effort and money to restore properly. But add in MercuryÂ’s aura and bids ended at $362,500. “ItÂ’s no surprise that MercuryÂ’s car dominated our Musicians list on the 2023 Hagerty Power List,” the company said. Movies and TV: For those readers now emerging from hibernation since 1968, the news is that the historic Highland Green Mustang from “Bullitt” remains at the top of the Power List for the second year running.

Ford demonstrates Mustang's new Line Lock burnout feature

Tue, 22 Apr 2014

Been saving your pennies for a 2015 Ford Mustang? Put in a few extra shifts or some overtime? Got a great down payment ready? Well, however much you saved for your new pony car, start saving more - you'll need the extra money to spend on tires.
That's because the Mustang will come with a system called Line Lock, which can lock the front brakes electronically, allowing drivers to perform big, dumb, smoky burnouts without moving so much as an inch. It's sort of like launch control, only the average driver might actually use it.
Now, line locks aren't uncommon, particularly in drag racing. Usually, a flip of the switch locks the front brakes. The Mustang, besides offering the system from the factory which is unique in and of itself, looks a bit more involved.

First Ford Mustang prototype shots caught by legendary spy shooter Jim Dunne

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

You know how people refer to someone as having "been around the block" to mean they're very experienced? Well, when it comes to automotive spy photography, Jim Dunne actually laid down the concrete slabs of the block's sidewalk. The unforgettable Dunne more or less invented the car spy game - a fact he cemented by writing book called Car Spy - and has been delivering spy shots and reporting on the industry for some 45 years now. (He also once employed this writer as his impromptu personal chauffer on a Volkswagen trip in Germany, while he slept, but that's a story for a different time.)
In any event, Dunne must be on a mission to prove that "elder statesman" doesn't also mean "washed up" as it is his shots of the upcoming new 2014 Ford Mustang that we've been handed by our friends at KGP Photography.
Mr. Dunne has likely spent the last few years obtaining powerful telescopic lenses, as the Ford in question has clearly been photographed from some distance. Nevertheless, what you see here is visual evidence that the sixth-generation Mustang has moved beyond the mule stage, and is now testing in proper prototype form. Sources indicate that there are production-spec body panels under that baggy canvass dress; but the slightly less bulky silhouette of the new car can be just made out. While the car's bumpers have been removed to obfuscate things, we can tell by way of the camo's apertures that the car's taillights have moved upwards and towards the lip of the tail. A fender vent appears to be visible, too, just behind the front wheel.
