1966 Ford Thunderbird Hardtop W/ 390 V-8 Engine on 2040-cars
Pittsford, New York, United States
Up for sale is a Nice Condition 1966 Ford Thunderbird 2-door Hardtop which my father bought while on vacation in 1978 in Naples, Florida. The car had belonged to the original owner who sold it due to her age at the time. Car had 80,317 miles at that time. I have the original paid invoice when she bought the car new. The car has been kept garaged year around here in Upstate NY, driven sparingly, and it has never been driven in snow. I inherited it in 1995, and have driven it very little, but held onto it for sentimental reasons. I’m hoping to find a car enthusiast who can really appreciate this car, put some work into it and take care of it. Now for my disclaimers: Please be aware that I have driven it VERY LITTLE and cannot say for certain what the car will need mechanically. It is being sold in “AS IS” condition. From the little that I’ve driven it, it has a smooth revving/running engine and transmission shifts smoothly. Last summer I took it in for an overall mechanical look-over, and had the following done: 1) new brake lines, 2) new fuel line, 3) brake booster replaced, 4) inspection of carb, but no work recommended., 5) front brake pads replaced. 6) new battery, 7) spark plugs and points replaced, 8) timing checked, 9) new master cylinder & right rear wheel cylinder, 10) parking brake check valve, 11) compression test. I have receipts for all work (over $2,000), as well as receipts for any work done on it since 1978. Features: 1) interior trunk lining fully restored, 2) tires were replaced and have very little wear, 3) car has never been in an accident, never been out in snow, 4) paint job except for the few chips mentioned is in Good condition (no rust), 5) chrome is in Good condition with very little pitting or oxidation, 6) radiator professionally re-cored and lower hose replaced in 1999, 7) original fender skirts and hub caps, 8) comes with breathable soft car cover for interior storage, 9) swing-away steering wheel, 10) sequential turn signal lights in rear, 11) Specialty license plate (66 T brd) could possibly be transferred to a NY buyer...not sure. I’ve included some pictures (including flaws mentioned) in this posting. I would gladly email more pictures to serious buyers. Again, this car is not in perfect condition and a true collector may want to have some things worked on. Non-refundable Down payment of $500 due at end of auction upon successful win. Buyer responsible for picking up. Car is also being advertised locally, and I reserve the right to cancel this offering at any time during its listing. |

Find out if the Ford Fiesta ST can match Europe's latest hot hatches
Tue, 11 Feb 2014The V8 grunt of the Mustang has defined Ford performance cars in the US for the last 50 years, but in Europe, the Blue Oval has nearly as a long history of building some of the best hot hatches on the market with the Fiesta, Escort and later the Focus. The latest Fiesta ST has just hit the roads on both sides of the pond and has been enthusiastically received thanks to its combination of a peppy, turbocharged engine and hatchback utility.
However, Europe is getting a bumper crop of hot hatches at the moment, including the forthcoming, third-generation Mini Cooper S. Should Ford have waited to launch the ST until it knew how the competition performed? That's the answer that Xcar is after in its latest video, and it took the Fiesta to the track and some very misty, Welsh roads to find out. Scroll down to find out whether the ST stacks up.
IIHS updates overlap test: 2 SUVs get good marks, 9 fare poorly
Tue, Dec 13 2022Vehicles in crashes keep occupants safe by deforming around the cabin in a way that maintains cabin integrity. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's moderate overlap test, introduced in 1995, has been a huge contributor to improved safety for front-row passengers in a crash. IIHS President David Harkey said, "Thanks to automakers’ improvements, drivers in most vehicles are nearly 50% less likely to be killed in a frontal crash today than they were 25 years ago." In the 'unintentional side effects' column, crash safety has gotten worse for passengers in the back seats. When carmakers reengineered the front crash structure to protect the driver, more crash forces got distributed throughout the rear. IIHS research claims rear passengers have a 46% greater risk of fatal injury than front-row passengers, but back-seaters haven't benefited from the same upgrades in safety as the front row. The IIHS updated its moderate overlap test to address the issue, putting 15 vehicles through the new regime. Two earned good ratings — the 2023 Ford Escape and the 2021-2023 Volvo XC40 — one was acceptable, three were marginal and nine were rated poor. Every one of the crossovers sampled got good marks for all passengers in the original test. That test sees 40% of vehicle's width on the driver's side impacting an aluminum honeycomb barrier at 40 miles per hour. The updated test puts a crash dummy representing small woman or 12-year-old child in the seat behind the driver, the dummy's sensors and grease paint measuring the effectiveness of the restraints and the forces a human body would need to endure. To achieve a good rating, the "measurements must not exceed limits indicating excessive risk of injury to the head, neck, chest, abdomen or thigh." An institute engineer said, "In real-world crashes, chest injuries are the most common serious rear-seat injuries for adults." The sensors and video evidence showed back seat dummies in the Escape and XC40 endured minimal risk of injuries from excessive crash forces, from submarining under the seat belt, or from unwanted interaction with the side curtain airbag.  The Toyota RAV4 scored acceptable. The second-row dummy also endured minimal risk of injury to the chest and lower extremities. However, the lap belt slipped upward in a way that could increase abdominal injuries, and after the dummy's head dipped during crash impact, the head came back up between the rear curtain airbag and rear window.
Bacon-wrapped Ford Fiesta hams it up for International Bacon Day
Wed, 28 Aug 2013This is a bacon-wrapped Ford Fiesta. It is a real thing, that a real, multi-billion-dollar company designed. And it isn't even April Fools' Day. Designed for International Bacon Day, which is also apparently a thing, the 2014 Fiesta is finished in Green Envy paint - we're told black paint, like the color of a skillet, made the car look camouflaged - and features 10 gigantic decals depicting strips of tender, cured bacon.
The design, which was approved by the CEO of Benton's Country Hams, Allan Benton, show off the depth of Ford's Custom Graphics program. Unbelievably, Ford will actually start offering bacon decals to everyday customers, including (and we can't believe we're writing this) dual bacon racing stripes which will no doubt have Carroll Shelby spinning and/or salivating in his grave, and a "side of bacon," which wraps a couple of strips over the rear wheels.
Benton, who Ford claims is the King of Bacon, had this to say: "This car just makes so much sense." The Fiesta's marketing manager, Liz Elser added, "It's just awesome to drive down the road in a piece of bacon."
