Original owner of 2001 Ford Ranger XLT, 2WD, 3.0LV6 automatic transmission, 2-door with foldaway jump seats. Vehicle has 202,000 miles and is in need of some servicing. Many new parts and recent service. I have done most of the tune up, oil change, brakes, exhaust, and general repair myself, but things seem to be piling up and I no longer have the desire to repair the truck myself, or pay to get it fixed. I will do my best to completely describe any/all defects. If there are any questions, or you would like to see the truck, please contact me.
The good:
- New spark plugs and wires.
- New coil pack
- Recent cam position sensor
- New front lower ball joints
- New front upper control arms with ball joints
- Entire new rear leaf spring suspension
- Brakes recently done, new rotors on the front
- New exhaust (intermediate pipe, muffler & tailpipe - not catalytic converter)
- Recent front shocks
- Recent emergency brake repair
- Brand new battery (installed today)
- New rear brake line
- Bedliner in good condition
- Truck is very clean and has always been reliable
- Service records from recent shop repairs
- Transmission rebuilt at 100K miles
The bad:
- Although rear brake line has been replaced, brakes are still soft and other lines appear rusted. Bleed valve on left rear drum broken. It is drivable, but pedal does go almost to the floor. May want to consider tow if driving home far.
- Truck appears to be going through coolant, need to top off every now and then
- Probably an oil leak at valve cover causes engine smoke on occasion
- Truck runs very smoothly, but has hesitated on occasion. New cam sensor, plugs/wires, coil pack appears to have fixed it.
- Positive battery cable needs new connector at battery
- Fender bender has caused front grill crack and minor bumper damage

Ford promises 12 new global performance vehicles through 2020
Thu, Dec 11 2014Ford just keeps rolling out the big announcements today. We've already told you about the next-gen Focus RS coming to the US and the upcoming Sync 3 infotainment system. And this latest one should perk up the ears of racing fans or anyone who enjoys an enthusiastic drive (basically, all Autoblog readers). The Blue Oval says it has "more than 12" new performance vehicles on the way globally through 2020. Unfortunately, the only one that the automaker confirms at the moment is the Focus RS, but recent rumors might suggest a few others. Ford reportedly has the Shelby Mustang GT350R, next-gen F-150 Raptor and a Ford GT successor all on the way, all of which could possibly debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The future GT might even take the company back to racing at Le Mans. Speaking of motorsports, Ford is also blending its performance vehicle and racing efforts worldwide into a unified entity by combining SVT, Team RS and Ford Racing into a new organization called Ford Performance. It's responsible not just for excelling on the track but also for developing aero improvements, electronics, powertrain and lightweight tech for the Blue Oval's vehicles. "Our new global Ford Performance team ties together racing, performance vehicles and parts. It will allow us to more quickly introduce products and accessories that meet the needs of customers around the world on-road and on the track," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development, in the company's press release. The automaker thinks this market might be booming, especially among younger buyers. For example, recent data shows Millennials buy ST models at twice the rate of the rest of Ford's cars. Scroll down to read the Blue Oval's full announcement of the new division and the plan to get excited about things to come. FORD DRIVING PERFORMANCE INNOVATION TO NEW LEVELS; MORE THAN 12 VEHICLES COMING FROM NEW GLOBAL TEAM Ford bringing more global performance vehicles to customers worldwide; more than 12 new performance vehicles through 2020 – including Focus RS – to be available globally Ford uniting regional performance engineering and racing teams as one global team under Ford Performance, delivering more new vehicles and parts, more quickly Ford will deliver more than 12 new performance vehicles for global enthusiasts through 2020, as the company announced today its new global Ford Performance team.

As US exports top 2 million, is America becoming the world's source of cheap cars?
Mon, Feb 9 2015North American auto production is booming with 2014 figures just shy of the of the 17.3-million vehicle record set in 2000. With more models being built on the continent, even more are being shipped overseas. Factories in the US exported 2.1 million cars last year – the highest number ever. About half of those went to Canada and Mexico, but more than ever have been heading to places like the Middle East and China. The upswing comes in part from from after-effects from the Great Recession, according to The Wall Street Journal. With a weak dollar and lower production costs after the financial crisis, building vehicles in the US was relatively cheaper and more competitive in the world. At the same time buyers around the world are going crazy for crossovers. According to the WSJ, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are already exporting the majority of their US production of these models overseas. Both automakers have also announced investments to expand production further here to send more vehicles abroad. Even Honda has been shipping more models out of the country than it imported here. There is a concern this international strength could start slowing because the dollar is strengthening against other currencies, though it's too early to know what the actual effect of this could be, according to the WSJ. "Of course, we closely watch currency exchange, but we don't make changes in production or allocation based on temporary fluctuations in the exchange rate," Ford North American boss Joe Hinrichs told the newspaper.
