This is an amazing 1994 Ford Probe GT. I am going to describe this car with a listing of all the restored or replaced items in the past two years.
45000 mile J spec curved neck KLZE 2.5 V6 5 speed manual. This motor makes 205 hp compared to the stock 164hp that the US version came with. VERY snappy performer. Freshly refurbed wheels and fresh tires. Big brake package from a 2010 Ford Fusion. Vented rotors all around with ceramic pads and new calipers. This car stops HARD! New stainless headers and brand new exhaust front to rear. Both axles are new with new hub bearings as well as refurbed trans with all new seals. New clutch, flywheel turned, all new hydraulics clutch master and slave. New rear main seal on engine to be safe. Three new motor mounts and a new trans mount. New DuPont Rio red paint job. Car was completely disassembled for paint, all doors hood and hatch painted top and bottom. inside and out. New trunk seal and struts. New halogen headlights. New GT graphics. Short throw shifter with leather boot and knob. New shifter bushings. New carpet and rebuilt door panels. Power leather seats installed along with JVC CD player Pioneer 6x9 in back with matching 6's in the front.and 200w bass tube in trunk. Before I installed the new KLZE I put a new timing belt and water pump on along with new valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. New fuel filter. New O2 sensors. I have two new end links for the rear sway bar that will be installed by the time the car sells. Steering is nice and tight. Air is ice cold and heat is perfect. This car does not leak a drop of anything. I don't smoke and no one who rides in it gets to either. Never had a cigarette in the ashtray. The two items that might need attention but do not detract from the car are the Check engine light that comes on after a few miles of running because the Jap motor has no egr port. I bolted the valve to the block but there is no port drilled out. Also has code 12 on SRS which calls out side sensor. I have put a thousand miles or so on the car since engine swap. I love this car and wish I could keep it but I bought a 66 mustang project so the Probe goes...sadly. Its not hard to do the math.... BIG money spent on this car. I would drive this sweetheart anywhere...anytime.

Ward's calls out Ford's EcoBoost engines for their crummy fuel economy
Thu, Jan 8 2015With a name like EcoBoost, one might expect Ford's line of turbocharged engines to be somewhat, um, economical. In other words, replacing displacement with a turbocharger is supposed to deliver better fuel economy. Based on the experience time and time again of multiple Autoblog editors, your author included, this is simply not the case. Now, Ward's is calling out the cruddy efficiency numbers of Ford's EcoBoost line of engines. The column dresses down not just the new 2.7-liter V6 of the 2015 F-150, but also the 2.3-liter of the Mustang, the 1.5-liter from the Fusion and the 3.2-liter PowerStroke diesel found in the Transit, while also explaining why just one Ford engine was named to Ward's 10 Best Engines list. In its testing of all four engines, Ward's editors never came even remotely close to matching the 2.7's claimed 26 miles per gallon (for two-wheel-drive models), with the truck's computer indicating between 17.6 and 19 mpg over a 250-odd-mile run. Calculating the fuel economy manually revealed an even more depressing 15.6 miles per gallon. Criticisms with the 2.3-liter four-cylinder focused on its strange soundtrack, although it was business as usual with the 1.5-liter and 3.2 diesel, with Ward's criticizing the fuel economy of both engines. The 1.5, which Ward's claims is sold as a hybrid alternative, failed to get over 30 miles per gallon, while the five-cylinder turbodiesel's figures couldn't stand up against FCA's 3.0-liter EcoDiesel. The entire column really is worth a read, especially if you were disappointed in Ward's decision to only salute Ford's three-cylinder EcoBoost while shunning the rest of the company's new turbocharged mills.
Ford not backing down on MPG-based marketing strategy
Thu, Jun 26 2014The Blue Oval may have to back off a bit from the green messaging. Ford has had to lower fuel-economy ratings on a number of 2013 and 2014 model-year vehicles, namely its hybrids. And that may force the US automaker to rethink some of its marketing strategy, Automotive News reports. Ford has spent much of the year pushing its fuel-efficiency improvements, with everything from a Super Bowl ad saying its Fusion Hybrid gets "almost double" the fuel efficiency of an average vehicle (after the recalculation, it's now more like 75 percent better) to claiming the Fiesta is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid in the US (it's actually the Mitsubishi Mirage) to stating the C-Max Hybrid gets better fuel economy than the Toyota Prius V (it doesn't). Nonetheless, Ford doesn't plan on changing its mpg marketing emphasis anytime soon, the company said in an e-mailed statement to AutoblogGreen. "Providing customers great fuel economy is a key part of our Ford vehicle DNA." "Providing customers great fuel economy is a key part of our Ford vehicle DNA," the company said. "We will continue to highlight our vehicles features and attributes in our advertising and marketing, which includes fuel economy and fuel-saving technologies like EcoBoost and hybrids." Earlier this month, Ford said it would lower the fuel-economy ratings of models such as the C-Max, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ Hybrids as well as most of the Fiesta line because of mistakes in the company's internal testing data. It was the second change for the C-Max Hybrid. The good news for Ford is that its fleetwide fuel economy is up almost 40 percent from a decade ago, compared to an improvement of around 23 percent for Toyota. Still, while sales of Ford hybrids and plug-ins are about even with last year through the first five months of 2014, C-Max Hybrid sales have plunged 49 percent from a year earlier. Earlier this year, Ford admitted that the first fuel economy downgrade had a negative effect on sales and we can find proof in the numbers. Before that the change was announced, in August 2013, Ford was consistently selling over 2,000 – and sometimes over 3,000 – C-Max Hybrids a month. In September, it dropped to 1,424, then to 1,438 in October. It didn't climb back above 2,000 until May 2014. The second mpg adjustment was announced in June.
